Ah yes. Let's talk about this. No, this is NOT a "set up." This is a real life experience. I loved Simone. I thought she was awesome. Until my last visit, that is. I asked for pink peekaboo color and a cut. I pointed directly to the area right below the crown of my head, in between the top and bottom layers. She put it at the nape of my neck. When I said something (which was when I realized she wasn't adding more), she told me there was nothing she could do about it now. Prior to that, she was pushing a red gloss. I didn't want red...it washes me out. Still pushed the red. Push push push. We settled on a subtle red. Back to the pink... when I informed her again that what she did wasn't what I asked for, she got pissy with me for not using professional terms. She admitted that she did not make sure she fully understood what I wanted. I was bawling. The entire time...silently crying in hysterics. I told her I wanted the pink raised up higher on my head rather than having a pink rat tail. She put it above my ear. On one side only. When I asked if she was going to do the left side, it seemed like she was taken aback. Of course I don't want one side and not the other. I gave up at that point. My turn to be dried came. Mind you, she had overbooked herself and had been doing 3 appointments at the same time. Not the first time I'd seen that. She decided it would be cute to offer everyone a hemp gummy. Whatever, I would have taken one if the appointment was going well...but not when you know you've already messed up and you have unhappy customers. Once my mom informed her that I had pink dye all over my ears, neck, and the side of my face, she "noticed" that I was crying because I was unhappy with my hair. Suddenly, it's my fault. She blamed my lack of description, lack of photos (I didn't realize she needed a picture of where I was pointing to), lack of professional terminology. Hair stylists should be the client's advocate. They should help them articulate what they want. Help them understand what is going on and what you are doing. They do NOT blame the client for THEIR mistakes. Her apprentice, Jenna, even said that I told her what I wanted. She kicked me out because I wouldn't let her touch my hair. Why would I? This lady screwed up and blamed it on me. I'll never go back. My family, her clients of 8 years, will never go back. Simone then took it upon herself text my mom blaming me some more, and not taking accountability for her actions. Why not speak to the client? Why be passive aggressive and talk behind someone's back? Justice and Cali are sooo adorable and sweet...but Jesus the couch reeks of cat piss. She never did take the dye off the sides of my face and ears. Today, I went elsewhere to get the job done correctly. I couldn't be happier with the end result. It's wasn't difficult for the person to know what I wanted. He knew exactly how to fix the botched job I received 2 days ago. The entire salon was appalled by what my hair looked like when I first walked in. Never again. read more

I have been sick of my hair for a long, long time. It was thin, limp, overprocessed...I was out of ideas, so I started researching highly rated hair salons in RVA. Scissors came up several times, so I figured I'd give them a shot. I honestly did not expect to be as thrilled with my hair as I am!! The owner, Simone, sat down across from me before even getting me into the stylist's chair and asked about what I was looking to get done. That personalized attention impressed me right away. Then, she did what all professional hair stylists SHOULD do -- she looked over my hair carefully and asked about it. She really spent a lot of time with me on this, which I appreciated it, and informed me that they specialize in hair rehabilitation (which my hair was desperately in need of!). She described the style she had in mind for me, then recommended a gloss, which I had never heard of before. She explained why this would benefit my hair and even provided it at a lower cost this first time because she knew I would love it, and I did. Simone is a hair miracle worker and is the only stylist I will see from now on. Simone isn't the only amazing person at Scissors. Allison, the other hair stylist, is immensely helpful and sweet, and I could tell from watching her cut a regular client's hair that she also knows what she is doing and puts great care into her work. Tisha (not sure if I am spelling her name correctly) is the massage therapist and does a little bit of everything in the salon. She is super sweet and fun, and her massages are amazing (I had a 10-min one while waiting for my appt -- so glad I arrived early!). I have never experienced such a personalized experience at a hair salon before; they truly want you to leave feeling and looking fabulous! I cannot recommend Scissors Hair Studio enough!! I had been searching endlessly for the perfect salon and tried several that kept making my hair look worse, uneven cuts, bad color, or some you could not tell anything was even touched, except my depleted funds. Finally I discovered on the interent Simone the owner of Scissors on 18th Street, called and I could tell immediately the professionalism and care I was going to encounter. I made my first appointment January 4th for my birthday treat, and it was the best birthday present ever. Simone sat down and throughly consulted with me with visual aids, then without blinking an eye, her many years of expertise, I could not believe how fast she worked, I looked exactly like I wanted to after many years of mistakes. I had even tried the otc box colors that I never thought someone could fix in one session. Since i have stayed true and timely and I constantly am stopped by strangers complimenting my hair. Well, last Saturday i was overdue and called last minute, but she was swamped taking care of a bridal party, so I went elseware, to an expensive, overated salon in Cary towne. Boy, what a mistake...i called Simone immediately after, withing 48 hours I was back in Simone's chair and she once again fixed the mistakes and I looked up at her and said "my hair looks better than yours"...and we all had a good laugh! Simone and her entire staff from spa treatments to pedicures and the beautiful gift shop items are top notch and I will never stray again, even if I had to drive hours if I moved outta town, try Scissors once and I promise you, you will be writing your first review online as I am now! This salon is comfortable and run by a group of knowledgable and friendly people. They really have an eye for style and if you have a 'hair problem' like I did, they will know how to fix it. The first time I came here, my hair was extremely damaged, frizzy and what I thought was beyond repair. After one visit, they put some treatment in my hair to calm down the frizz and help protect my hair, and trimmed off the broken, damaged ends while forming a great style that really fits my personalitiy. It worked so well, you couldn't tell my hair was damaged anymore. They consistently work with you to bring you great styles and will even take the time to work with you and show you how to style your own hair so the style you get in the salon isn't a one day deal. Once they've shown you how to style it, you can do it yourself every day. For instance, I told Simone that I typically french braid my hair in the mornings so it's kept out of my face most of the day. She spent the next 15 minutes showing me different ways I could french braid my hair to give myself a fresh new look using a skill I had already become good at. This is definitely a great salon. If you're looking for a new salon in the Richmond area, give them a try. You won't be disappointed. They also have a new online booking system. It's very convenient to book an appointment this way and I'd suggest using it if you are comfortable doing so online. read more

This is a long overdue but well-deserved review. I live out of town and booked an appointment for a manicure/pedicure and blowout at Scissors the day before my wedding which was in Richmond in April 2013. The week of the wedding, I realized my nails were a mess from a prior gel nail polish application and I would need acrylic nails. I called Scissors (probably sounding sort of panicky) the day before my appointment and the owner assured me they would have someone at the appointment who could do acrylic nails. My sister-in-law & I arrived Friday afternoon to a very welcoming environment. Allison did her mani/pedi and it was beautiful, and the woman who did mine (whose name I forget) did a great job with my acrylic nails. They had soda and water and tea and were very friendly. The salon owner did my blowout and she did a great job quickly (the acrylic nails took awhile). I was supposed to be picked up by the hotel shuttle, but it never arrived even though I called twice. I was about to be late to my wedding rehearsal, so the salon owner had one of the stylists drive me to my hotel in the owner's car. What great service!! Throughout the entire afternoon they were kind and lovely to talk with and stayed very calm when I was getting nervous about the shuttle running late. Thanks again for everything! I had THE best experience at Scissors today. It was my first time going there and I don't think I will ever go anywhere else. I went in for a pedicure with Allison and I think I left with a lifelong friend! They do everything by appointment so it was only her and I for most of my time there and we talked and laughed and it felt like I was chatting with an old friend; something I have never experienced while getting my nails done. Allison's attention to detail while working on my feet and listening to what I had to say about what I wanted and expected from a great pedicure was bar none the most exceptional experience I have had with an aesthetician working on my toes! We talked about my hair and I cannot wait to go back and get it cut and possibly glossed; a process she told me about that I definitely want to try now that I know all about it! When I was leaving, I met Simone, the owner. What great style she has, you can tell by the eclectic design of her shop. She really cares about what she is doing and that is the most important quality you can find in a business that wants to help you become a better you! I found Scissors because they were two blocks away from where I lived but now that I've been there, I would travel MILES to go back. They were just that good. read more

I've been to Scissors several times over the past year. I've sent both my boyfriend and my mom there to get hair cuts. Both my mom and my boyfriend had wonderful experiences. My boyfriend has unruly curly hair and Allison has been able to tame it several times. The lack of control he has with his hair definitely annoys him and I'm glad to see him come home happy with his cut. He especially enjoys being able to get a massage and drink hot chocolate during! My mom recently got a fabulous color/cut by Allison & Simone. She wanted something different and she loved it. The color definitely made her look younger and fit her personality. She also loved her manicure. I've always been impressed when I've gone and definitely recommend this salon. They have a gorgeous spa area upstairs with pedicure/manicure set up. I absolutely trust Simone and Allison with my hair and color. I always love how my hair comes out. She's done my make up a few times and styled my normally straight hair curly for me. It's a wonderful experience! The treatments can be pricey, but you get what you pay for! My boyfriend said the men's haircut price is about average ($27). read more

I had a wonderful experience here as a new customer. I had the pleasure of working with Simone, who made my hair look absolutely beautiful! I consider myself a picky person when it comes to cutting my hair, and she definitely gave me exactly the cut and style I wanted. I had previously gone to another salon in town, which I had given 2 chances, but was never completely satisfied which I think was partly due to the stylist lacking experience. Simone has a wealth of knowledge and experience, and it really shows, and I think it made such a difference. I had the best hair cut that I've had in years!! Even just today at work I have received several compliments on my hair from colleagues. She and her staff definitely went above and beyond to make me feel welcome as a new client - Allison was generous enough to take the time to call me before my appointment to let me know that the credit card processing machine wasn't working, and I therefore was spared the embarrassment of not having a check or cash with me for payment. So thank you again for a great experience, I will definitely be returning to Scissors for all of my hair care needs in the future!! read more

indeed, i ditto everything that's been said thus far @ simone @ scissors! i finally had the courage to turn my dirty blonde hair over to somebody with the instructions of "do whatever you feel like doing that will look good. and be creative. and let's have fun." and that's exactly what simone did and what we do everytime i go in for cut and color now! and EVERY time i leave, i LOVE the color - it's always different and super fun/unique - and the cut is always rockin' - and keeps its shape for at LEAST two months! probably the most fun is all of the commments i get. it doesn't matter if it's the day after my cut and color or 8 weeks after, i get stopped ALL THE TIME and told that my hair color and cut are fabulous. it's so fun and a real treat to leave feeling good and sassy every time i have an appointment with simone. i highly recommend going in and telling her to work her magic on you. let her be creative - you'll come out feeling great and glad that you let her at it! read more

I've been going to Scissors for close to one year now, and am thrilled with the color and cut I get from Simone, the owner. For years I have had trouble getting just the right highlights and lowlights for my skin tone,despite many years of experimentation with hair color. Simone always gets it right. I think this is because she balances several talents: 1) she is a patient listener; 2) she has a good eye for style color; 3) she brings in her own great suggestions and ideas. Rather than relying on a formula that she keeps on record, she adjusts to the health and look of my hair each time come in. As a result, no two color treatments are alike, but they all look fabulous. Everyone in the salon is friendly and welcoming (especially Allison!) . Scissors offers many spa treatments I haven't tried yet. The ambience is eclectic, warm and inviting. I cannot say enough good things about Scissors Salon and Simone! I found Scissors when desperately seeking a quick fix to a disasterous hair cut i received at another salon, and was happy to find it within a few minutes walk from where I work downtown. Simone scheduled me the very next day after I called, and took great care to listen to me and how I wanted my har to look. She studied my hair for a good while, talked with me about how we could move forward, and then got to work. Within less than 10 minutes my deplorable haircut was completely transformed into something that truly reflected me! Not only did she give me an easy style, but took the time to show me how to do it. Scissors Hair Studio is ONLY place that I let even touch my hair! I had some very bad experiences with other salons when it came to highlighting my hair. Simone understands the science of color and its application and I have ALWAYS been thrilled with the end result. From cut to color - this is the place you want to go if you want it done correctly. This is the Beverly Hills of Richmond when it comes to service, expertise and class! I just saw a comment by Angela M. and wanted to respond to her comment. I have been in the salon many times and never smelled anything cat related. I was rather impressed that this salon would allow a rescue cat to live there. They take excellent care of it! I went to scissors for the total experience - I got a spa manicure and pedicure and hair cut and highlights. I could not have had a better experience! Simone and Allison work as a flawless, close team and expertly walk you through the salon experience and never leave you idle. Absolutely love going to this salon - just moved to the area and am so happy to have found a place I can count on regularly for color & cut! I have been here a few times and have had my hair colored and cut by Simone, and Allison has cut my hair before too. They are both AMAZING! It is hard to find a salon where I can get natural looking blonde highlights and Simone knows exactly how to help me achieve that look! After getting my highlights, I got stopped at the store with compliments on my hair color! Before my most recent appointment, I called the night before to see if there were any openings the next day, and even though they were booked they were still able to find a way to squeeze me in, no questions asked! I went in for a manicure with Allison and had the best experience I've had in quite some time. She did an excellent job with my nails, but most importantly she made me feel comfortable and like we were longtime friends. I'm a sucker for good customer service and she definitely delivered! She was genuine and excited for me to be there, which made me even more excited. It's rare to find a place with multi-talented professionals, but as I learned during my session, many of the stylists are quadruple treats (hair, nails, skin, makeup). I can't want to continue my nail routine here, as well as try out the other services they offer. I left wanting to tell everyone about this gem. Scissors is the best salon in Richmond, by far. I haven't found anything as good, even when I was living in Philadelphia. Their color work is amazing, and they pay incredibly attention to detail. They customize color for each person individually and even take pictures so that they can replicate it exactly the next time if you'd like. Also great are their cuts--I leave every time with the best cut I've ever had. I've never been anything less than thrilled. One of the best things about the salon is their superb customer service. When I came in today out of the snow, they had hot chocolate with whipped cream waiting for me. They work as a true team, and the vibe is great. I couldn't recommend them more highly. read more

I can not say enough, can NOT say enough about how fab I think Scissors is on the whole. In particular, my Hair! Love my new colour and cut. Perfect. And trust me, I was a challenge. Hair, dull, dry and misshapen before my first visit. From that first appointment, Simone the owner, has rejuvenated and repaired the damage and the lifeless, screwed up colour I did. Aaak!, Now, it is sun-kissed perfect, shiny and healthy and the cut is spot on adorable. I even feel better. I have had massages, facials and other services in this comfortably, eclectic gem. I moved to Richmond this past June and I have been trying to find a salon that could live up to my one back home. After numerous mediocre haircuts and waxing appointments, I have finally found MY SALON! I will never go to another again! Allison was amazing, she was very friendly and her and Simone made me feel right at home. The studio was super cute and offer lots of services and products! My hair and my eyebrows have never looked this good! I can't wait to go back to try some of their other services.
