Schwab's is awesome. Old school service, relaxed non-pretentious environment (if a newbie came in they'd get A+ guidance and A++++ love), massive cigar selection, and you can smoke inside like it's 2003. The ventilation is great and even when a few dudes are in there smoking it's still fine. The accommodations are certainly utilitarian but that's kind of the point... I grab a coffee from Cherry Seed before I go for the most baller combination possible. My last stop I picked up 3 Cigar Aficionado Top 25 cigars, including the number 1. I call that a win. read more

Had a recommendation to stop in here to satisfy a curiosity to give cigars a try (because we're mature adults who make nothing but the best decisions for ourselves, clearly). The recommendation was amazing. Not only was the space full of all sorts of posh toys that snooty boys (like myself) would love (shaving kits! smoking accessories! razors! flasks!) but the selection of cigars was (to an untrained eye) amazing. The proprietor was extremely helpful and got us a good starter, as well as advice on how to get the most success from the experience. He didn't try to upsell at all, just gave the most basic suggestions and recommendations to ensure a pleasant experience. No talking down to, nothing at all disrespectful. (He also has a reputation for being very accepting of anyone from any walk of life who wanders in - including queer folk, women, etc. so you can feel damn good about supporting a cause as well.) As an avid cigar smoker I seek out cigars no matter my current location. When I lived here before I use to frequent Schwabs when Paul was still alive and the shop was off Woodhill. When Paul passed his son took on the challenge of running a B&M cigar shop and he's doing fine with this shop. Yes, you can smoke in the store. Just like any neighborhood bar, you can stop in grab a smoke, sit down with strangers, tell a bunch of lies and solve the world problems before you leave. Staff is helpful and the prices are attractive. The selection is not to bad either. Some top of the line sticks as well as bargain basement selections. If you're a pipe smoker you're in luck also. The do their own blends and have quite a number of pipes for sale. No friggin cigarettes or rolling papers so don't even ask. This is a good place for good cigars. read more

I don't even know where to start... I first discovered Schwab's about 10 years when I started my love affair with a pipe. The staff was extremely helpful in helping me decide on a pipe and the perfect tobacco for a newbie. I moved away for about 10 years and recently moved back to the area. There was no question as to where I was going to get my tobacco and pipes. The same staff that was there 10 years ago is still there today! Since then I've purchased 2 Nordings and a few varieties of their hand blended tobaccos. Of course they have done nothing less than exceed in the quality of care they take with each customer. In my opinion this is the greatest place to buy premium cigars in Lexington Kentucky, or pipe tobacco in Lexington Kentucky. This place is very well lit, very well organized and makes it very easy for it shoppers and customers to make their selections. The staff here is well rounded and diverse on their knowledge of cigars and pipe tobacco.. I was kind of amazed by all of the cigar and tobacco accessories that they also sold here. Nothing like your typical hedge shop.. This place is very professional and personal in their pursuit to supply Lexington Kentucky with a premium cigar and pipe tobacco store. They carry my favorite Ashton ESG stick, which is quite hard to find nowadays. They have a very diverse selection of other premium cigars as well. They had all different types of the Ashton VSG line.. So I couldn't complain there either. The owner came in and actually shook my hand while I was in the humidor room, I spoke with him for a few minutes as he is an expert in cigars and tobacco. He attends a lot of tradeshows, so I asked his opinion to point me in the right direction for a few other cigars that I was interested in possibly trying. His immediate response and detail was astounding, this place has my business forever. Great place. Have just recently started to take up cigar smoking from time to time so not an expert on anything yet. The guys here were very knowledgable and offered all the help I needed. They seem to have a great selection of cigars from what I do know, and the prices are very reasonable. There is a sitting area (4or5 seats maybe)where you can smoke a cigar inside and even watch a game. I will definitely be returning. read more

I was a newcomer to pipe smoking when I first went to Schwab's. The atmosphere was and is still great: friendly, and smokey the way such a place should be. The owner is not only ready to share any number of stories, but is also excited about his craft. He set me up with everything I needed to get started and even has a classy old pamphlet on hand to give me the basic knowledge I needed to get started. I have since taken three friends into the store to introduce them and get them accustom to this new pastime of mine. Love this place! I have been going here for years off and on. I remember when it used to be in the old Lexington Mall, the customer service is still excellent! Have gone in there to try new cigars & the owner is really cool & pointed out some suggestions. Got a cigar cutter & great lighter there.
