Great family farm. They really take the initiative to make their business family-focused and friendly. We love their kid-centered events they have as well. We attended a morning event this summer where they read an interactive and educational story, let the kids paint a picture of a butterfly to learn about symmetry, then released some monarch butterflies who had just emerged from their chrysalises, into their garden. The kids loved it. Not to mention the other fall related activities like apple picking, delicious donuts, and their hayride around the orchard. All great fun for our family. When I'm in the mood for some fresh homemade fried cakes this is my go to place.A lovely box of mixed (glazed,cinnamon and plain) perfect with a hot cup of coffee or some cider served on site. I usually come here in the fall, the huge variety of apples, pumpkins and gourds. Hot kettle corn and homemade pies(apple crisp is so good) are always a hit, they usually have samples out. They also have a store full of different craft items for all seasons. A wall of spices, soup mixes, candy and all sorts of trinkets. I love that they offer Pittsford Farms Dairy ice cream here! Also their different cheese's and pre packaged deli meats are always popular...my family loves the garlic cheese curds. We moved to Penfield about 8 years ago and one of the best finds was Schutt's. Once I tasted their cider I swore to never buy super market cider again. Schutt's cider is crisp and fresh. I love the fact that they switch up the apple varieties they use for cider in the fall. Tasting all of the various presses is fun. The fry cakes? There is a reason why they've been voted Rochester's best. They have a large selection of apples to choose from so you can always find what you are looking for, whether it be an eating apple or a baking apple-they have them all. The gift shop is fun as well-a nice old country store atmosphere. All in all, a fun way to spend a little time in Penfield. read more

I stopped in today to grab some apples and the two guys working in there were so friendly and helpful. I was debating which type of apple to get. (My last bag of Empire were slightly softer than I like). The one guy suggested Fugi and let me try one to make sure I liked it. The other guy said he preferred Ida Red and grabbed me one to try as well so I could compare. (Let's see Wegmans let you do that!) Reasonably priced, I got a giant basket of apples for $6.99. And of COURSE, I had to get a fresh glazed fry cake at the register for the ride home. Mmmmm so good! There are also lots of crafts and such as well as a good selection of candies, cheeses, honey, jarred food items, cider, etc. I also love that Schutt's is open YEAR ROUND!! I didn't even know this until a friend told me recently. Glad I don't need to spend near $4 for a small bag of apples at Wegmans anymore!! read more

I love Schutts, and have been coming here since I was a kid. They're known for their apples, cider, and fresh fry cakes. They have a huge selection of apples to choose from, and their fry cakes are addicting (cinnamon sugar is my favorite!). They have all of these fall favorites year round, along with other local foods, sweets, and local craft items. They also have Pittsford Dairy ice cream along with their special apple frost. It's like a smooth sorbet made with apples- very sweet and refreshing especially during the summer months. Schutt's has u-pick berry and cherry picking during the summer too, which is why I went on my most recent visit. They have both sweet and sour cherries, reasonably priced at $2.50 & $1.99 a pound respectively. They had a lot of cherry trees and it was fun to pick our own. We went to this place as we were discovering cideries in the area. Schutt's just opened up their hard cider bar and was serving hard cider. We found it amazing the number of different kinds of apples they had - and all you had to do is ask for a sample and they would cut you one open. They had lots of apple ciders for sale. It was cool to be able to see how they were making the cider. Lots of places to sit and enjoy. The hard cider bar was fantastic. They had the ability to get a 'flight' so you can try samples of several different flavors. My biggest complaint is that we went on the weekend (in summer/fall) and it was CROWDED. The line to check out in the store was like 20+ minutes. Not sure if it is always like that...but next time I go I would probably go M-F and avoid the weekend. read more

The fried cakes are where it's at! If you're looking for a fresh, fluffy, warm, lightly glazed cupcake-textured donut you want to go to Schutt's. We should have walked away with a dozen. Instead, we grabbed a couple at the counter. I snuck mine after doing a bunch of gardening work; a well-deserved treat. It was so tasty I almost shoved the second one in my mouth before my boyfriend could see -- like the donut version of chubby bunny. I resisted. I knew he'd want to experience it for himself. (I'll make a sneak visit next time I'm out to hoard a box for myself...). Oh yeah, the apples! They have several varieties available, including an experimental variety from Cornell. Most of the ones in stock right now are great for eating: crisp & tart are my favorites -- like Jonamac, Gala, 20oz. Many adore their cider, but for me it's subpar compared to other local options only because I prefer a rich, dark, full-bodied cider. Rochester is chock full of apple farms and what sets Schutt's apart besides their fried cakes is their store that's open year-round. They carry several unique items, local products, and knick knacks. Notable items worth grabbing are Schutt's spices, hulless popcorn, fried cakes, candies, and honey. It's a nice place to stop to grab some items for a dinner party or if you need a hostess gift and want to bring a local treat. It's one of the more convenient apple farm locations so I'll frequent here for the quick weekend trips when I can. The other farms call for a day trip and I'll save the apple picking for them. read more

We have come to Schutt's for the last few years in the fall. My husband found it online and we like going for their fried cakes in glazed, cinnamon or plain flavors. They have boxes of "mixed" (6 glazed, 3 cinnamon, 3 plain) or 12 glazed. Also also sell them individually at the checkout so you could swap the plains for more cinnamon a or just buy the number you need, instead of committing to 12 of them. By the way, they are served warm!!! =) So fresh and delicious! They reheat pretty well in a microwave too. Make sure you keep them sealed in plastic baggies at home so they don't go stale. In addition Schutt's sells cider and apples and a bunch of other gourmet jams and stuff. They also have toys and gifts, some seasonal (Christmas ornaments, Thanksgiving & Halloween decor) some more random (like stuffed animals of cats). Icing on the cake for me is their selection of Pittsford Dairy Farms ice cream - so delicious. They sell them by the quart for around $7 or $7.50. Flavors are awesome like pumpkin and caramel craze. So good. Not sure if the ice cream is a new addition, but I don't remember seeing it the last time I was there. It is near the checkouts in a freezer, so hard to miss. Only downside of this place is that sometimes I can't get the full picture of everything that is really available in the store because there's a lot going on and the layout isn't the most logical to me. Minor complaint though. =) We love coming here - it's an easy drive up 590 to 404 and then right on Plank Rd. We make a trip at least once per year, but maybe we should go more often! read more

I can't say enough good stuff about this place. Been coming here in the Fall every year since we were kids, and I think my Dad's family must have observed the same tradition. Outside, there are pumpkins, gourds, and the wafting smell of kettle corn. Inside, the awesomeness intensifies. They'll let you try the apples before you buy. Also fresh-make the most amazing cinnamon & glazed donuts, and the most delicious cider this side of the Rockies. Then there is Pittsford Farms ice cream (pumpkin, to die for) and the ever-popular honey sticks, probably from the CASE OF LIVE BEES, which could pretty much be the most awesome and frightening sight you will ever lay eyes upon. Also, there is a cute black & white lop rabbit. Lately, they have an adorable selection of Japanese erasers, Halloween decor, gift items, glassware, candles, toys...the place is stocked. You could easily look around for an hour. It is so fun. Definitely worth the trip. read more

Absolutely love this place. Has always been my favorite cider as it is super smooth and just the right amount of sweet. The hard cider tasting area is great, but way too small and understaffed. If you go here any weekend in fall prepare to be elbow to elbow, and waiting a while to order but the selection is great. Growlers and even even half growlers available to take home as well as a bunch of cans and bottles. The fry cake (in house) tastes exactly like it's name sake, and the Relic (also in house) is hands down my favorite. Love that everything here is all local if not made in house. Have always loved Schutt's and still do, but had an unfortunate experience recently. I spent $10 on a big 'ole bag of kettle corn to split amongst family. Once I broke up the bag and tried it, it was terribly burned :( Had to toss it it was so bad. Also bummed to see dogs are not allowed. Many similar type markets allow leashed dogs. read more

This is the place to be this fall. When we arrived, the place was already packed. There are pumpkins outside for 5.99 a piece which is reasonable for their size. Inside, there are some fall/Christmas decorations to your right, and bushels of all kinds of apples. There were free samples of cider, today was honey crisp which was delicious. I grew up around the corner so Schutt's will always be my go to place for fried cakes, cider and apples. I was visiting from California recently and was sad to see there was no Apple Frost in January. I get why but was sad regardless as I don't get back to Webster too much these days. The fried cakes were just as good as always though and I enjoyed bringing some back home. They were missing that famous freshly fried crunch the next day but a reheat in the microwave was a great refresher. Keep doing your thing Schutt's.
