This is a great experience if you are looking for some variety in your apple picking. The employees are fabulous and super knowledgeable. You get on a wagon pulled by a tractor and they drop you off to pick your choices of apples. I love that they don't spray year round and they only treat at the beginning of the season and only for the pest(s) identified. Came here with friends to pick apples. Such a fun experience! We had a perfect day for this adventure! Limited parking spots but people seem to be always coming and going. Cute little store barn, with apples already bagged for a quick grab and go! Donuts, cider, veggies and popcorn available to purchase. Some craft items like signs for purchase too. They have a tractor with a wavy that takes people out to a specific area to pick different types of apples. They have things working very smoothly here, if a sign is on the ground that row of apples is not ready to be picked. A sign is up telling you all the details about that apple... it's ready to be picked. There were a good number of people picking apples with us but everyone is spaced out very nicely. Tried a few apples and they were crisp and sweet ... feels like fall is here! Back on the wagon up to the barn, where they have these cute old fashioned scales to weigh your apples and pay. I am very particular about my apples, I prefer Snapdragon and Ruby Frost. If you like Honeycrisp apples, you will like these. Not many orchards grow them since they are newer. I was super excited to find out Whittier Fruit Farm had them for picking, I found out on Facebook. They are quite active on there. As you walk up to the barn, there is a play area filled with fisher price playhouses. It is kind of sad and funny at the same time. Imagine the scene in Nemo where all the fishes play on the sponge bed. You grab a bucket which is already lined with a bag and board the tractor. It was quite a bumpy ride. We passed a pumpkin patch and then dropped off to pick apples. Each row is labeled with the type of apple. The tractor comes back around to pick everyone up once they are done. The apples are weighed once you get back. The is where my problem starts. Apparently you should keep track of which apples are which. You will not know how much they cost until you get to the register and the cashier tells you. There are not signs anywhere beforehand. The store has popcorn, donuts, cider, and pre-picked apples for sale. I would come back here because they have my favorite apples. read more

This is my second time coming to the Whittier fruit farm, and I have loved it every time. The place is super quaint and it has a lot of apple options for such smaller farm. The prices are good at $1 a pound for the normal applies and $2 a pound for the premium apples. They also have a small pumpkin patch to pick small-medium pumpkins from. The price on these was also very reasonable $0.45 a pound, to give you a rough estimate I bought a small pumpkin and it cost me $1! They also have apple cider and donuts inside, both very good but I think the donuts would have been even better if warm! Only negative thing I have this occasion was I got overcharged for my premium apple. I only bought 1 honey crisp and it didn't even hit 1/2 lb and I got charged for the full pound and then a random extra $1.50 charge. read more

I have been coming to Whittier Farms to Apple pick for years now! Its one thing about fall I look forward to every year. The Farm is so cute and welcoming, very homey and down to earth. In addition to the multiple apple rows of a variety of apple types to pick from they have a farm stand with already picked apples and some other fun fall treats. There is also a "playground" of little plastic play houses for kids to run and jump on. Lastly they have a pumpkin patch that they've expanded this year which includes a wagon ride out there and back. I am excited to see what they've done! read more

Love love love Whittier Fruit Farm! My partner and I have been coming to Whittier for our apple picking since we moved to Rochester 2 years ago and cannot say anything bad about it. The prices are unmatched and the apples are always delicious. Usually 99¢ per pound for what they call typical apples, and $1.99 for premium apples (think Snapdragon, Ruby Frost, Honeycrisp, etc.). On weekends, they offer wagon rides to the appropriate trees, but it's never more than a 5-8 min walk if you opt out of the rides. Their store does offer pre-picked apples for a higher cost, as well as hot and cold apple cider, cheap and delicious popcorn for kids and adults to enjoy, and apple cider donuts! Their donuts are so unique - they use strong spices that add much more depth to the donuts! As long as I'm in Rochester, this is my go to place. Keep in mind, I live in the Farmington/Canandaigua area - the drive is WORTH. IT. read more

This is a must stop for your Fall Apple Picking! Every Friday they update what apples are available for picking on their Facebook page. They have pricing for typical apples like macs, cortlands, golden delicious, 20 oz, etc, and then you can pay a little extra for their premium varieties, such as Fuji, Snapdragon, Honeycrisp, and the list goes on. They give you a bucket with a bag inside, and an entire bucket will cost you about $24. My friend and I filled up half of a bucket for 12 bucks, and it was about 40 apples. The tractor will come around and take you to two different stops depending on the varieties that you would like. Inside there are paper cones filled with popcorn for .75 cents each, or 3 for $2. They have yummy apple cider donuts for $1.25, that you can pair with one of their many flavors of coffee available. They have pre-picked pecks and half pecks for sale, if you are too lazy to pick yourself. There is apple cider in the fridges, and also squash for sale. *They do accept cards I enjoyed my donut and coffee on one of the picnic tables outside. The place does have pumpkins, but not a ton of them. This is a great place to bring your kids for some fall fun too, as they have a small little tikes playground set up under a pavilion. This seems to be a great year for a lot of apples varieties in western NY! Here we are at almost the end of October and there were numerous varieties to choose from. The trees were loaded with fruit (today anyway) and the orchards appear to be well cared for. Adam and I came here apple picking and had a ton of fun and loved our haul! I was impressed with the amount of different apples they had available for us to pick and we did get a few different kinds to make sure we were both happy. There were a ton of trees and as usual be sure to walk towards the back because everyone always starts in the front so there are hardly ever any good apples in the front. The price was great. We had sooooo many apples and we walked away spending less than $20.00. We literally felt like we robbed them we had so many. Overall, we were very happy and would totally come here again. Every fall I always go apple picking in Rochester and you can be sure Whittier Fruit Farm is the place I'll go to every year. They're on the outer reaches of town but it's immediately obvious why - they seriously have acres upon acres of apple orchards as far as the eye can see with a TON of different apple varieties available at different times in the picking season. They've even bred a few of their own custom apples over the years since they've been around for so long! Not only that, the people who work here are friendly but more importantly extremely knowledgeable about all of the fruit and veg they farm. If you're curious what apple's good for a salad, pork dish, or pie, these people will know! You can pick or they have picked in the farm market along with some other local vegetables and fall delights. Weekend they operate a wagon ride out to the Apple orchards and Punkin patch. I grew up right now Whittier and now, even living in Buffalo, I will still make the hour drive just to pick their apples. It is a great farm. I loved the tractor ride to the orchard. I haven't been apple picking since I lived with my parents. Picking apples, strawberries, and blueberries were a regular occurrence at the local farms. Then the preservation process would begin in the form of canning, sauce making, or indulging with pies and smoothies. Cheers to Whittier for bringing back the memories. I hear New York apples are the best. They certainly are good and plentiful. You should see Whittier's future plans outlined on the side of their barn. They have many more apple varietals they'll be introducing in 2014 and 2015. Upon walking in, they offer many pre-picked options, but you can pick your own. With or without a map. After my cold weather experience, go with a map especially if you're not wearing appropriate footwear. Otherwise, it's a bunch of fun and the apples are amazingly cheap. Went here with a group of moms with toddlers on a Sunday afternoon. The kids really enjoyed picking a variety of apples and pumpkins and also playing in the jungle gym. I enjoyed the warm apple cider, popcorn and dried fruit. They also have baked goods for sale. You can take a tractor to go further out, but we didn't venture out too far since some moms had strollers. Nice family outing. read more

Even though I've spent most of my life in Rochester, NY, it wasn't until recently that I've had the pleasure of going apple picking. In the past 2 weeks I've been here twice and I'm excited to go back again. I came upon Whittier Fruit Farm after going to Wegmans recently and seeing that apples were $4.00/lb (gasp!) I knew there had to be a better alternative. After checking out some reviews on yelp, I decided that my husband and I should give this place a try. We arrived on a Saturday morning around 11am and once we arrived, we must've looked like first timers because it wasn't long before an employee greeted us and explained how they operated. You have the option of making your visit a quick one by purchasing already picked apples in their barn. Or if you'd like the full experience, you can grab a bucket (lined with a bag), hop on the wagon, and be taken to the apples that are ready to pick. Once you've picked your apples, your bag is then weighed and you're given a ticket to take the register. It was pretty quick and simple process. The first weekend we went, we had the option of Jonamac, Zestar, Sansa, SweeTango, and Ginger Gold. We decided to return the following Saturday because the available varieties changed to Honey Crisp, Autumn Crisp, Gala, and Jonamac. The great thing about Whittier Farms is that they update the main page of their website to show which apples are being picked. Also, their website includes an estimate of when the different varieties they grow should be available. The only thing I regret is going in so HAM with the apple picking so early in the season. We now have a ton of apples to eat through to make room for all the other varieties to come this fall. read more

Every fall I look forward to going apple picking here. They take you around the orchards in big cart which is part of the fun and you can munch on the apples as you're picking them. You fill your big pail with as many apples of as many varieties as you like and then they weigh it to figure out how much you owe. Wow... I learned about this place from a work friend who takes his family there each year. So I piled my wife and two-year old in the car and we drove the 20-minute drive to check it out. It was a beautiful day and the temperature was perfect. Whittier's has a little play area for children with a number of climbing areas and slides that my son found to be a ton of fun! We then hopped on the wagon attached to the tractor and they took us on a moderately bumpy ride into the orchard. We had a lot of fun walking the apple rows, trying the various varietals, and filling our bucket. We took home 22lbs of apples for only about $17. We personally selected our lot of apples and had a lot of fun doing it. Highly recommended for families and anyone who loves apples! They offer other fruits and sell a number of other things in their little market area, including cider, coffee, and snacks. Great excursion and worth the trek, even if you live a bit of a distance away. read more

Very disappointed with our visit to the farm. I brought my preschool class there for a field trip. They forgot about our reservation that was made 2 weeks prior. The owners were very rude and seemed very put out that we were there. They told me since they had nothing better to do that they would still take us on the tour. My daughter's kindergarten class was taken there on a field trip this past week and I was one of the chaperones. There were actually 2 classes from my daughter's school there and they split them up. One class went to the apple trees to pick apples while the other class went on the tractor ride to pick out a pumpkin. We went to pick apples first and the worker there "Farmer Judy" explained to the 20 five year olds the cycle of the apple tree etc. This "farmer" was either having a hard day or really didn't like her job very much. Either way, she was unfit and inappropriate to be talking to a bunch of 5 year olds. She made specific digs at a few of the kids (my daughter included) and I said , "she was just raising her hand to answer your question", she said, "well she already answered a question". Give me a break, she's a five year old. She barked at my daughter another time as well and also a few other kids. When she wasn't barking, she seemed like she was forcing herself to remain composed and nice. I wasn't the only one to notice this. My daughter became withdrawn and was embarrassed to have been yelled at by this lady and 2 of the other chaperones and a teacher said something to me as well. On the other hand, when we went with "Farmer Jermaine" to get a pumpkin, he was patient and kind while he taught the children how he prepares the land to plant the pumpkins and how they grow etc... He didn't bark or have exaggerated (non) patience while dealing with these kindergarteners. He was a pro and a pleasure to listen to. Then after the pumpkin experience, we went back to the "playground" where the kids had a snack of popcorn and cider. "Farmer" Judy sought me out while I was standing there watching the kids with the teachers and asked me if I needed help with anything. Really? When I said "no", she said, "oh, really? It looks like you have a question." hmmm...What does one look like when one has a question? Any different than any other time? I was literally just standing there watching the kids play and chatting with the teachers about the weather. I swear, she was trying to start ...something. I bit my tongue and told her I was all set. I would have loved to have told her that her treatment of these kids unacceptable and if she is having a bad day to have someone else take care of the kids' tours.
