Large bouquets of fresh flowers grown on the farm are everywhere, along with hanging bunches of dried flowers from years past. The owners are beaming with pride of their generational owned farm and enthusiastically share the store of the farm and the richness of the crops that grow so abundantly in the area. The food is grown locally and prepared in a kitchen attached to the barn/store. The food is magical and the setting completes the experience. We've been to several events here, but this was our first Father's Day there. My dad and husband had an awesome time enjoying food with strawberry and rhubarb themes along with delicious fruit filled beverages served out of mason jars. Really wonderful place to have a unique lunch. Fantastic fresh food, lots of variety, and non-alcoholic beverages too--we were served tea as I recall and "raspberry shrub"--apple pir to die for--delicious. Farm is gorgeous; barn is stunning and beautifully decorated. Amy gives an interesting talk about the farm and what you'll be eating. If you're lucky, the matriarch Sue gives a talk as well. Shop is very nice; pick up some plants, baked goods, preserves etc. on your way out or before lunch. A few caveats: the lunches are very popular, so book as soon as the calendar for the month comes out. (It can be a bit of a waiting game until the calendar comes out so keep checking.) They sell out lightning fast. Get there a bit early bc the parking lot fills, though I think there is more parking in back. Maybe bring a sweater or light jacket as this is semi-outdoors in a barn, in somewhat unpredictable but often cool upstate New York weather. They also had a restaurant last fall on the weekends w/ no reservation needed. I live in Texas and have not tried that yet, but I would expect it's a decent alternative if you can't get a special lunch spot. read more

Anyone not familiar with HO, here is the treat you're in for: the menu is set based on what is in season at this incredible fruit farm. Amy (co-owner along with her sweet Mom) starts every lunch off with a 10-15 minute lesson on the farm, its history, and the menu. She bubbles with pride at what her family has accomplished over the decades of running their farm. If you can't handle a lesson in what it takes to bring this amazing farm-to-table meal to you, then maybe this is not the place for you, but please don't be rude by rolling your eyes while Amy talks. Really lovely place! My friend took me there for their monarch butterfly luncheon. The barn was beautifully decorated with fresh flowers and little details. It was a three course meal and everything made in house. It was so delicious and fresh. We learned about the history of the place as well as butterflies. We even got to release some monarchs! It is always so relaxing to pick berries at Hurd Orchards. The decor of the store makes you feel like you are in southern France. We were there to pick blueberries, and I am so surprised how flavorful those lithe berries were. They are definitely not the typical blueberries you will find in big box supermarket. What a beautiful, lovely spot up on 104. I have loved visiting in the past, and I was lucky to be able to stop in again this fall season on my way back east. First of all, the friendly people who own and run the shop are marvelous. The woman in the shop on a recent Sunday was so lovely. She was helping an elderly couple and you can tell she was just completely kind hearted. When I had the chance to ask her my question about Enterprise apples, you could see the delight in her face as she answered. She was thrilled that I even knew about their Enterprise Apples (organic, late ripening variety). I love how everything is decorated here. In the past I have taken a few photos that have since been turned into pieces of art work. Some of my best works were photos taken here, ones that I've since turned into postcards and posters that people have actually hung on their walls. It's more a testament to the aesthetic nature of Hurd Orchards than it is my photographic talent! My enterprise apples aren't ready yet, so I'll surely be back this season. If you're ever taking a casual Sunday afternoon drive along 104 in the fall, I highly recommend a stop at this delightful little place. I adore Hurd Orchards! Many, many a day has been spent picking sour cherries, berries, nectarines, peaches, plums and apples. I have taken probably 100 pictures of their market displays, and been soothed while walking among their gardens and flowers. This place is truly unique, and ... while more expensive than many of the surrounding orchards ... I highly recommend you support this multi-generation, women-owned business. You will see where the money goes once you bite into the extraordinary fruits you pick or purchase. Beyond the fruit picking, this review is focused on their events. For a couple of years, a group of friends and I have attended their Christmas Tea and had an absolutely delightful time! Stunning wreaths and displays, and scrumptious foods, using fruits and vegetables & herbs grown on the properties. This year we decided to try something news and attended their Thanksgiving Tasting. Oh muh GAH! DELICIOUS! And bountiful! And dazzlingly beautiful! A true feast for the eyes! Heart-warming to hear of the history of the area, life as farmers, traditions of the family. And more food than you can eat -- and I have a bottomless belly that is pretty hard to fill! We're now excited to try an event in the Summer, and look forward to seeing the options when they come out in Spring '18! Tips -- bring your own beverages. I traveled to Hurd because I have been seeing reviews on Other farmers market yelp pages that Hurd is the best when it comes to Apple cider. I figure if someone was going to take the time to write a lengthy review on another farmers market Yelp page to tell people that the best is elsewhere...it must be good. It was unseasonably cold and rainy, we huddled in corners and couldn't enter the barn where the luncheon took place for about 45 minutes. Options were be wet and chilled or pretend to shop in their store. The luncheon is prepared quite a bit ahead of time, I was allergic to the ingredient in one dish, they were unable to re-plate the dish to just a simple salad. Hurd Orchards is a nice place to visit with the family on a beautiful day. You can pick apples (or whatever is in season), drink some excellent cider, and purchase a wide variety of canned preserves made from, it seems, all possible combinations of fruit. It's family owned and it's obvious that the owners care about both the fruit and the experience that visitors have. The barn is incredible - it was built around 1800 and is definitely a sight to behold. I would give it five stars, but there were a couple of things about our experience that made it good but not amazing. The server didn't know what type of apples the cider was made from, which really surprised us. Overall the place just wasn't built for the amount of visitors that were there - we had to park on the side of the (55 mph) highway, and had to wait in line for almost half an hour to purchase our (admittedly amazing) apple butter and sour cherry preserves. We visited Hurd Orchards this morning to go apple picking, and had a wonderful time. We ended up with a good variety of apples beyond what we had planned to pick, as well as a gallon of cider, but we could have brought far more home with us - flowers, more fruit, beautiful baking. In the barn we smelled chicken pot pies baking and definitely plan to return for lunch one day soon. The friendly owner took time to share some apple knowledge with us, as well as some history of the farm and her family. I have always loved coming to Hurd Orchard. The highlight is the baked goods. My family came this weekend to pick apples. We stopped in the barn for lunch prior to picking. Hurd is now serving lunch on weekends. This is in addition to their traditional luncheons. The chicken pie was full of flavor in a delicate crust. My husband did not appreciate the flower garnish but I think it adds charm. The kids enjoyed warm apple pie, which was served with fresh cream and a floral garnish. We savored the apple cider. The server appeared inexperienced and somewhat confused. My husband ordered pie only to have the server return and ask if we wanted the bill. She charged us for the pie slice he never received. She was confused when I pointed out the error. We struggled to find the apple orchard because the map was not clear. A quick call to the store set us straight. We picked several varieties of apples. Trees are is great shape with plentiful fruit. More challenges when paying for our 2 bags of apples and one apple pie. Owner got confused and charged us $96! It took a couple minutes for us to convince her we owed $56.75. I rated this four stars not because of today's experience but my history with Hurd Orchard. read more

This place is visually stunning like its out of Martha Stewart's Living Magazine no joke. They are known for the blueberries by now you an get them at Wegmans cheaper if you can believe it. Lovely jams, preserves, pickles and flowers and all sorts of things and fresh homemade baked goods. We got the Cherry Bread and I got some SourCherry Preserves, Apple Jam & Pickles. Beautiful setting! Hurd Orchards sits alone on quite a few acres of land, surrounded by apple trees aplenty. My fiance and I came to Hurd to pick apples upon a suggestion by a friend who lives locally to the area. What a treat. The house and barn that you find upon arrival are beautifully kept up. There was a private lunch taking place inside the bar when we arrived that looked incredible. Flowers and hay bales decorated the inside of the barn, while nicely plated tables hosted delicious looking food. We checked into the main house where we got our basket for apple picking and browsed the goodies for sale (the pumpkin cookie was delicious!). The apple orchards are just up the road from the main house and had plenty of rows of about 10 varieties of apples. Gorgeous place and incredibly friendly owners. We will be back! read more

We visited Hurd for the first time in a few years yesterday as part of a cider and donut tour we took around town. We started with Schutts in Penfield, then traveled across town to Zarpentine Farms and Kelly's Farm Market in Hilton and finally Hurd in the Holley area. The clear winner for the best cider - Hurd Orchards. Very full and rich. Zarpentine was a good distance behind in second. Kelly's was a close third, and Schutts was a distant fourth. We didn't care for the donuts, or fry cakes as people in this area of the country like to call them at Schutts. Zarpentine's were good and we loved the apple cakes and in particular the apple pie (I had another piece for lunch today) from Kelly's which was outstanding. Of the apple farm markets, Zarpentine doesn't have any character. Schutts does, but the place is always bustling and everyone is there to get in and get out. I actually enjoyed the homey atmosphere at Kelly's and the fact that on this cool day we could sit by a roaring fire inside on comfortable couches and chairs and enjoy our apples. I was really intrigued by the fact that you could get apple cobbler and soft serve ice cream but let me tell you, you get awfully full drinking cider and eating donuts/fry cakes. It's a good way to put on the pounds. Atmosphere, well, Hurd always will take the cake here. The farm market is truly a wonderful place and the barn was open and set for a evening dinner. It reminded me of the past Fall dinners we attended with friends that were so wonderful. You really must make an effort to attend one of these dinners, the owners put on such wonderful meals featuring their own fruits and vegetables. I don't think it's fair at all to downgrade a rating simply because it's cold, Marissa. That's a risk you take with an environment like this. Hurd is worth the trip! We drove about 25 minutes from downtown to berry pick. Our timing was pretty impeccable, as it was the beginning of blueberry season and right in the best part of cherry and raspberry season. Their orchards are quite spread out (require driving to some patches), but we didn't mind and it was fun to roam around each of them. It was easy to pick off trees of varying ripeness, and there are tall ladders to help if you are short and/or fearless. As far as the prices, the per-pound you-pick price was not any more than you would pay in-season at Wegmans, and the fruit is so vastly superior in deliciousness! The women in the shop (the world's most adorable shop) were sweet and helpful. We did not try any of the jams or baked goods, but it took all I had to resist. Good to note that they take cards ($15-ish minimum!), but cash would probably make everyone's lives easier. read more

So, I've been to the Thanksgiving tasting and loved it! I told everybody about how wonderful it was. My mom is up for this years Thanksgiving. She drove 6 hours to get to my place, she is 74, and I wanted an apple pie from Hurd since we couldn't make the tasting. My mom has a therapy dog and when we got there we were told it was a food place and the dog couldn't come in a "food place" and she would have stay in the car, not nicely either. We left and will be making our own pie. I'm sorry, you should have been kinder and asked what kind of dog it was. Poor approach, sorry. Actually visited Hurd Orchards last year and after going to a different "farm" in the area this year (to try something different), I regret not going back to Hurd and didn't want others to miss out, so let me tell you what I remember... We came for the u-pick it peaches and berries, which i suppose maybe all are similar and dependent on the weather for how tasteful the fruit is, but it was better when we were at Hurd last year- all very flavorful aYummy baked goods, beautifully presented preserves and other gift items in their shop. I went berry picking here with my husband and son and we enjoyed ourselves quite a lot! As far as u-pick farms go this one is less crowded and more down to earth than others in the area such as Brown's. The store itself is full of handmade goodies and we sampled a few jams that were all scrumptious. The store and the surrounding cherry orchard was quite full of people. But While picking berries we only ran into a few other people so it was a nice peaceful and leisurely affair. The black raspberries and blueberries were fresh and perfect! The main reason that in giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is that I do think the prices are a bit too high. Their workshops(such as wreath making classes) look like a lot of fun but again the prices are too high so I probably won't find myself going to any. read more

We arrived on time for a 6:00 pm seating, and were seated at 6:35 The hosts spoke of their vision and history for about 20 minutes (bla bla bla) The barn was very cramped and it was difficult to move around to each station. The meal consisted of about 20 sweet Apple concoctions and an extremely tiny morsel of turkey and ham. We received no liquids at the table , not even water, and they only offered tiny cups of very sweet cider at a station and they ran out of that We paid $64.70 per person in advance, non refundable. I love love LOVE Hurd Orchards!!! I went with family for a surprise birthday dinner. It was fantastic. The story about the orchard, how long it has been in one family, the food, how it is decorated.. Everything was fantastic! I live in Arizona and every time I visit my friend in Pittsford we go and eat here. The ambiance is wonderful, simplistic elegance. I am a photographer and must have taken at least 300 photos here. Every where you look is appealing to the eye. The food is wonderful. The thing I absolutely loved is that at the end of the meal you are given a cookbook of everything that was made for the meal you ate. The little gift shop is fantastic too. I cannot say enough good things about this venue. I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone!!!!! I am going back east in a week and cannot wait to stop in for lunch on the 16th!!! We had a bridal shower at Hurd for about 40 women. What an amazing job they did!! I met with the owners a couple of months before and they truly wanted to make it personal and fun, right from the dinnerware to the food. Our guests raved about the whole experience.
