Pound Lane is quickly becoming my neighborhood go-to for all of my favorite comforts. From delicious Thai food (Chachawan), to hidden cocktail bars (Mrs. Pound), to vegetarian fare and juices (Mana Café), I was thrilled to learn that I can even find an authentic New York bagel there, too! Founded by Rebecca Schrage, an ex-pat New Yorker of Chinese and Jewish ancestry who cut her teeth in the banking industry, Schragels Bagels fills our city's puzzling void of authentic New York style bagels. Trust me: They don't exist anywhere else in Hong Kong. So save yourself the disappointment and go straight to Schragels. (EDIT: They now also exist in the lanes. See my review for R&R Bagels.)
I had the loxy lady, which was the classic rendition of a lox, cream cheese, caper, and thinly sliced onion sandwich on a bagel of your choice, and I loved every bite. They also have a reuben, but apart from those two sandwiches and occasional specials, those are the only proper lunchtime items. Additionally, they've got your classic selection of bagels (plain, cinnamon raisin, everything bagel, etc.) as well as cream cheese schmears.
Staff is super friendly and helpful... And they even do catering and office deliveries.
Would love to have someplace to sit down to enjoy my bagel / bagel sandwich -- hence 4 stars instead of 5. read more
