My husband got scam for unfamiliar website and one of the pictures they used was one of Schott leather jackets. I helped him out with dispute and also doing research about the real one. I found out that Schott has a retail store in New York City, so I took him there this time even they have an online website, but we weren't sure what size will fit him. Nowadays, people mostly shopping online even you can return or exchange the good, but it will take time and sometime the new size you get still not the fit on your body. So in my opinion, a retail store still necessary. You can see and feel the real product especially if that product is expensive before you make a purchase. My husband did try on the coat and found the size that fit him. We made a purchase and he had been wearing his new coat every day since. read more

This was my first time visiting this new location. The store used to be on Orchard St. near all the other leather stores. The old location was a bit cramped and dark inside. This new location, on Howard St., is such a refreshing change ! It's well lit, lots of space so all the jackets, shirts and other items stand out. Rather than cramped on a few clothes racks. It is mistake to order from Canada. The size L didn't fit, it was too small. I wanted an XL. If you need an exchange, you end up paying nearly double. (I'm not exaggerating !) : customs two times , Fedex two times, Canada post one time. I cannot judge the quality of the product as I didn't get to wear it yet. Poor selection: of 5 versions of their signature peacoat, only 2 in a 42R. Salesgirl knew almost nothing about the merchandise and apparently could have cared less. I woke up early saturday morning and hauled my ass out to the Schott factory sale yesterday in Jersey (took about 2 hours one-way). I was looking forward to the event and finding a jacket that I'd be happy with at a discount. Long story short, I purchased a brand new, no-defects jacket right from the factory at the standard 20% factory sale discount. I get home and realize I may have purchased a size too large. All sales by Schott are final sale -- which makes sense -- but I figure hey, there shouldn't be any issue if I exchange the jacket for exactly the same jacket in one size smaller, right? I bring the garment to this store in perfect, unworn condition (keep in mind, it hasn't even been 24 hours since I even purchased the jacket) and ask if I can exchange it for the exact same piece but a size smaller. The staff called their sales manager and she said absolutely not, all sales final, I purchased it at a discount, there's nothing that can be done. Tell me, what fucking difference does it make if I exchange the jacket for the exact same jacket but one size smaller? How does it in any way hurt the company? Does it make any difference whatsoever whether they have an extra jacket in Large or Extra Large? I would understand this if there was some flaw in the product, or if I purchase the product with a defect at a discount, but this jacket was personally handed to me off the rack by the customer sales associate at the Schott factory who told me the jacket was brand new with no defects.The only one this hurts is me, the customer, who spent 4 hours hauling ass out to their factory and who spent $800 on their product. Bottom line, if you are going to buy from Schott, know EXACTLY what the fuck you want, because the people in charge don't give a flying fuck about you whatsoever and will do nothing to make sure you are happy or satisfied with your purchase. It is remarkable how easy this situation should have been to resolve and how bull-headed and short-sighted the Schott regional sales manager was to fuck it up so badly. read more

I read the reviews before I visited, and was prepared for the lackadaisical in-store service. So I found a jacket I liked and ordered it online. After a lengthly shipping interval, my $1200 jacket arrived tied up in a plain plastic dry cleaner bag. I tried it on, and quickly noticed the myriad defects in manufacturing and materials. The inner pocket lining was twisted and stitched to the outer seam, rendering the pockets lumpy and useless. Worse, the sleeves were two completely different sizes, and made from two different hide thicknesses. I contacted costumer service, and after my second email (the first was ignored), I was bluntly referred back to the website. It was clear with every email (nine in all, to complete a basic transaction) that the rep simply could not have cared less about my experience, or whether I remained a Schott customer. Schott has recently disputed this on another review, and claims that the terse, one-or-two line replies were thoughtful, complete responses. At no point until I posted photos in a public forum did Schott acknowledge that there was anything out of the ordinary with sleeves of two different sizes or pockets sewn backwards. I was interested in an exchange, but at no point was I assured that the shocking defects I encountered in my jacket were important to the company or likely to be remedied in a replacement. Eventually, I pulled the plug on the transaction before the experience could sour my affection for my vintage collection. The final slight? I was charged return shipping on my defective jacket. Again, Schott disputes this publicly and names the date that my shipping was refunded. Which is to say, they acknowledge that they knowingly charged me return shipping on an admittedly defective garment, and that I had to send yet another email to remedy the situation. When I walked into this place I felt like 'Bad and Bougie' by the Migos should have been playing. Seriously. That was the vibe I got of the store and the staff. Is that bad? Depends on who you are really, for me I wasn't phased (more into this later). So what led to this evaluation? First off, the staff. The guy who helped me was really chill, knew his stuff, and he alone was the reason I paid $30 for a pretty dope t-shirt (never again though, never again). The rest of the crew there? Yeah, they weren't having it. At all. And you know what, that's fine. It didn't phase me because I got what I needed, got some stuff I didn't need and had an overall good shopping experience. Also, the place smells like aged barrels of bourbon, leather, and fresh laundry. Oh, their selection is vast. Especially with coats and outerwear, they have really maximized the space well. Now if they can just get the rest of the staff up to the level of the guy in the front (blk gentleman, tall, glasses, dripping w/finesse) they'd have something special. If leather is too steep for you cost wise then they also have jackets made from a fair selection of other materials, I bought myself a very reasonably priced canvas one there and the customer service leading me to it was excellent. Recently I experienced extraordinary customer service and absolute guarantee of their product by Schottnyc. I bought a beautiful pea coat from Schottnyc over three years ago but never wore it as on arrival the coat was a size too big and, at the time, what really kept me from simply wearing with sweaters underneath was the very bright red interior. Being very conservative, was not too keen on the bright red interior. The coat was placed back in its bag, tags never taken off, and hung in my wardrove closet. Because I live in Florida, the weather rarely gets cold enough nor the situation present itself to warrant wearing suck a beautiful jacket, so the coat sat in the closet and the years went by. This year, with the sudden cold snaps, the coat came to mind once more and I took it out again to try it on and have the wife give me her opinion. For her, the red inner liner was no problem as was the obvious size being too big. After she convinced me to reach of to Schott NYC about the situation, I was stunned when Jerri Reyes with customer services requested pictures of the jacket and followed up with a request that the jacked be returned. A little over a week later, after they had received my coat back, I received a new coat in the right size. I cannot believe this company went above and beyond and I am elated with my 740C. I cannot praise Schott NYC enough for the experience, notion - that there are still companies with absolute pride in their product and above excellent customer service. I finally bought own my moto jacket! Such a classic jacket with superb quality. My salesperson was Will and he was so patient and attentive and not even a little bit pushy. He didn't come across like he was trying to make a sale. I couldn't decide between two styles and Will encouraged me to try on each one more than once and then take pictures of each jacket on. Then he said to think about it. I had promised to come back later w girlfriend to help me decide and he kindly held both for me. I ended up buying the Schott 626W and I couldn't be happier! Been a big fan of the brand ever since I found out about it a few years back. Most of my outerwear now are from Schott and their quality definitely stands out. Was hoping to pick up a cafe racer at the store since I didn't want to wait and order via online. Store has poor customer service. Came to an empty store with 4 sales associates. No hello, no greeting, no acknowledgement that I'm there. Fine, I already know what I want so let me pick it out, confirm the size, and move on. No help from anyone as I'm sorting through the rack to find my size. They're just standing there chatting amongst themselves. Walked out immediately. The store manager Nate was the rudest, most condescending person I have ever delt with, and couldn't even do business with him because of that. I purchased a Schott Pea Coat 740 (I think is the model number) online in a size 44. I am 5'11" 200 lbs, my chest measures 44 but the coat was too large. I had removed the tags (because an employee at work told me the coat looked great...it did, just not on me) and had some communication error in getting the coat exchanged for a smaller size (DO NOT REMOVE THE TAGS if the coat does not fit...or you are unsure...it will help expedite the exchange process if the tags are in tact (and the coat not worn). That being said, Schott was accommodating in getting me the correct size and I am grateful for their patience and support. Anyway. I went down to a size 40 and the coat fits perfectly. The coat was a little stiff but has broken in nicely throughout the day. I received a good number of compliments from co-workers. I will be buying from them again. Most coats are made in the USA (some Canada), and their styles are timeless. The prices in my opinion are right in line with the quality and style offered. My coat was 250.00, but supporting USA goods, the material and craftsmanship are totally worth it. I highly recommend Schott if you need a stylish, well constructed warm coat. read more

You can't find a cooler more authentic American brand. A friend of mine who plays in a band said it best - when I wear my Schott Perfecto, I get into less fights. No brand is more bad ass than that. I stopped last Saturday when I came across the store by chance. A fantastic experience to say the least. I had a great experience at the Schott NYC flagship store. Natasha was very helpful, but not overbearing. She let me come to my own conclusions about my jacket choice, but steered (excuse the pun) me in the right direction as I tried on one jacket and then another. The store itself is beautiful. It has that quintessentially American "flavor" as you walk around. The smell of leather is pervasive and the products are showcased well, if a bit understated. The environment provides a comfortable shopping experience, and the low lighting, soft music, and "classic-rock" atmosphere all make this a store worth visiting. Everything inside reminds you that this is a completely American company that's been creating quality outerwear for over 100 years. The products are of a very high quality. On my visit there I didn't browse too much beyond the Perfecto section as I had gone in simply to try those jackets on, but a quick glance around the store revealed some well built items. All of the outerwear they sell is handcrafted by union workers in New Jersey, so you know you're getting the best product out there. Schott was the first company to put a zipper on a jacket, and they've been at the forefront of style from that day forward. Since 1913, they've been designing and creating quality outerwear, and in 1928 they introduced the Perfecto--the first lancer-fronted motorcycle jacket, a style that has become a staple among leather jackets. Often imitated, the Perfecto is the standard of excellence in leather motorcycle jackets and has remained practically unchanged since its release at a Long Island Harley Davidson distributor. I ordered a jacket from Schott NYC over the internet. The jacket ran small from the sizing guidelines. The geek button, the button at the top, was just for show and not functional. Why would you add a geek button if it wasn't functional? The kick in the pants is, they don't do free returns. If your jackets run small why wouldn't you offer a free return? I'm pleased (and was relieved) to have had a very positive experience. Will was patient, kind, helpful, & really let me take a lot of time as I tried on 6 or more jackets. He appeared very happy to share a ton of information, and when gently pressed, gave me useful feedback as to which style jacket looked better and best on me. We look forward to going back and finding more treasures. Details: My husband recently purchased a motorcycle and wanted a jacket that would provide protection when he rode it. We learned about Schott motorcycle jackets after doing some on line research and went to the store in Nolita on Friday. Our experience was amazing! James and Natasha welcomed us into the store and then James spent a significant amount of time explaining the options and pros and cons of each to my husband. James helped get him the right fit and then gave us the information about the jacket on a card when we said we wanted to think about it - no pressure! Nate also told us about his experience with his jacket which was helpful. After thinking about it overnight, we went back on Saturday; my husband decided on the horsehide perfecto and the fact that these jackets are made in the USA played into it (in fact they are made just a few miles away in NJ). When we got there, James wasn't in yet but Michael (store manager) took great care of us with some help from Jose. James arrived shortly after Mark tried it on again and he was so happy to see us. We really felt like the staff there was so happy to see us and welcomed us whether we were buying or not. We got an extra treat when Barbara (granddaughter of the founder) and Steve (her husband and current CEO) walked in delivering a bunch of jackets to the store. They spent some time with us telling us about the fascinating history of the company. Made us even happier to do business with them. James held the jacket in the shop after we paid for it so we could walk the neighborhood a bit and even gave us a great recommendation for coffee - Bowery Coffee - around the corner. When we got back, I decided I really need to try on the white perfecto in the window - and that came home with us as well. I ordered a winter jacket from Schott on November 21, after being told that it was in stock. In fact, it was NOT in stock! Then told possible December shipment....then told mid January shipment.....then informed that shipment scheduled for first week of February. Yesterday, was told that shipment date CANNOT BE CONFIRMED....Maybe?? ...last few days of February...but no promises. ELEVEN weeks after ordering...they still can't tell me a ship date. I visited the Schott NYC store in SOHO just to try on a size jacket that wasn't offered at Daves NYC unless it is special ordered. So I didn't intend on purchasing my jacket directly from Schott since the jacket I wanted was $165 Cheaper at Daves. I read from several people how bad the customer service was and that's exactly what I was expecting. But a gentleman named Joe couldn't have been more helpful and cordial despite telling him I was there only to try on a size and purchase the jacket somewhere else. He helped me try on several other jackets that I was interested in. Joe even got another person's used jacket to show me how it would age after a year of wearing Horse Hide Leather which I really appreciated. The store itself is gorgeous and the quality of the jackets are unbelievable and thanks to Joe I can say that the customer service was excellent. Sometimes I wonder whether the people who leave bad reviews are negative people in general who go into the store with a bad attitude. You attract what you give out people. ; ) read more

i purchased a jacket here about 3 weeks ago and the Person who was helping me (apparently the manager) was really helpful and really got me the best fitting jacket in the style i wanted. i was blown away by the service he provided. i dont remember his name but he was a guy with a big beard. here is what stopped me from giving schott nyc a 5 star rating. the other workers were all just lazy and didn't pay me no mind. they laid back talking to each other and when i asked a question they made me feel as if i was being annoying and they quickly brushed me off with a one word answer. if you dont want to be bothered, dont work in customer service! i love the jacket though! its really amazing! read more

Long story short: Five stars for the sales service; three for the store. I needed a winter jacket so... I walked in and was given a depressive greeting by a guy at the desk...I walked on, found the rack of pea coats and rooted around until I found something to try on. The layout of the rack is slightly not good. If you expect to sell the sh** out of pea coats, how are customers supposed to see all the styles if they're sideways on a rack only? I think the store needs to fix the display so separate styles are on separate racks. They also need to show the different styles somewhere. I dumbly asked about a dressing room...not noticing that I was in a jacket store or the mirrors around me. A sales guy wearing a leather jacket in the back pointed that out politely...then continued on staring into space and leaning hard...I couldn't really decide if he was impersonating a moody teenager or a cat but whatever, that was the one time he spoke to me as well, which is amusing in retrospect. I tried a jacket on. Then, though, I never got her name, a saleswoman asked if I needed help. I needed a size up. None on the rack, so she went downstairs to check it out. No luck. She checked online...and luck! Then we talked coats more and she encouraged me to try on a different style -the insulated pea coat. The first one was too big. The second was just right with enough room for a layer or two. The jacket was snug but fine and she pointed out why the fit worked (no pulling from the buttons) and told me how to button the top. In a minute or so wearing my winter layers under the pea coat, I started to heat up = good sign. As I was paying for the coat, the guy at the register told me that if you want a custom item or an alternate version sold by a retailer (e.g. Asos used to stock a burgundy pea coat) that you can contact the factory to see if they have accommodate you or have stock. Helpful advice, no doubt. Ugh man, sorry for writing so much but my experience was pretty good! Got a sweet tip, got some great service, got a sweet jacket. The woman that helped me made the sale, hands down. If you're serious about that outer layer, call the Schott. read more

I made an order from the company after reading that it has been used for a couple of magazines. The items looked nice so I bought a flight for my son it got here and was to small, so I go online to start an exchange. I got the store credit and order the new size and get ready to complete the order and it tells me to pay $9.95 for shipping I call the store cause clearly on the site it says exchanges are free, so I speak to a female and she tells me pay it and I'll put a note in the order to return it back. Not only did I not get my money back I never get any information about the new exchange. I call again to find out any update on my exchange being I know they received my package because I tracked it, so I speak to this same female I forget her name I wrote it somewhere, but anyways I asks her for an update and she tells me with an attitude oh it takes 7 to 8 days to process from the time we receive the package mind you nowhere on the site explains this. I tell her well I never received any email explaining any of this because your website doesn't explain this neither she said we don't send anything until we process your order, so I said ok so in 8 days if I don't receive nothing I will be calling back she laughs and says you don't have to keep call it's not going to make your order go any faster, so I say u said 7 to 8 days she responded with it will be ready when it's ready, and when it's ready you will receive an email. Long story long I never got my refund and I paid shipping twice once for the first time I order and another for the exchange. Two the flight came and it doesn't even look good on my son, but I won't dare try to exchange or get a refund, because they don't even give a full refund they take the $9.95 shipping, and I won't be paying that for the third time. Please read this warning and experience I went through, so it won't happen to you this companies customer service is awful. read more

Ordered a 740N peacoat, when arrived; 2 buttons were missing under the collar. Disappointed in quality of construction, material of fabric felt cheap, buttons were cheap stamped plastic. This is a shout out to Jose! I bought my Perfecto online more than 10 years ago after reading about them in the New York Times. I visit NYC pretty often, but had not visited the store. This morning I did, and I am so glad I did. I had a wonderful conversation with Jose about the history of Schott's Perfecto, learned things I did not know, and he confirmed what I suspected, that Michael J Fox wore a Schoot's Perfecto in Back to the Future II. He has such respect and enthusiasm for the company, which is so rooted in New York history, and its jackets--especially The Perfecto! For fun I tried o a red one, which IS beautiful, but black is THE BEST. Timeless design made to last and last. Maybe a year ago one of my stars was coming loose. I emailed Schott. They told me how to mail it to them, re-secured my star, and mailed it back, at no charge. I told Jose this story and he promptly offered me a set of silver starts, a set of gold stars, or both. I love my Perfecto even more since visiting the store, and look forward to dropping in again my next visit to New York. read more
