What a wonderful buying experience. I walked in, Frank greeted me, not only asked what I wanted, but picked up on every unspoken clue. He quickly gathered five pairs to try, knowing not only the size I said, but using his knowledge of his inventory that fit what I was asking for, even if I didn't directly ask it. Not only did Frank give me five pairs, but he actually put them in an order that would give me the best idea of what to look for in fit and feel. We quickly got down to two pair, and he explained the differences between the two, both short-term and long-term. There was zero pressure, zero pushing, just honest feedback. One pair was twice as much as the other, but he didn't push anything either way. (I went with the less expensive pair -- cheaper is not the right word, because they are excellent quality.) Not only that, he offered to have them hemmed right there on the spot. Within 45 minutes of walking in the door, not only did I have a new pair of jeans, but tailored and walked out the door with my new jeans. As for the jeans? They're great. I went with a pair that Brooklyn Denim made and I absolutely love them. Frank also made a profile for me and saved the info of the other pair that I liked in case I want to order those at a later date. Because I don't live in town, it's a great resource. I selected the jeans I wanted and he immediately took my measurements and passed my jeans off to be hemmed. They were done in 20 minutes and I was out of the door. He also quoted me a lower price for jean repair than Self Edge, and I'm excited to bring in my jeans that need fixing. I love Brooklyn Denim Co! Frank, the owner is so kind and attentive, and has such an impressive collection. The entrance is past the coffee bar up a cute little flight of stairs to the second floor, just follow the sign inside. Everything I get tailored there looks so good it feels like a custom made piece of clothing. I recently brought an unworn vintage pair of Levi's from the 70s that needed to be taken in at the waist. I was a little nervous because it can be easy to mess up pants and they were such a good find but they came out absolutely perfect and are my new favorite pair. I couldn't recommend more if you need anything tailored. It's a great deal for exceptional craftsmanship. It takes something very special for a small, brick-and-mortar clothing boutique to survive in the age of e-commerce and fast fashion. Over the course of several weeks, I came to see Brooklyn Denim Co. as an exceptional place staffed by true jeans aficionados. I'll never buy my jeans anywhere else again. The story: A few months ago I wandered into Brooklyn Denin Co. to buy a pair of jeans. I care about style, but I'm not super confident about clothing in general. Luckily, a BDC salesperson patiently worked with me to try on different styles of jeans. With his help, I selected a pair of jeans that I felt confident about. I tailor took my measurements, and I left the jeans at the story to be altered. I got a call a few days later. The jeans were ready to be picked up. However, when I arrived to pick up the jeans, they were, well, missing. Perhaps the jeans had accidentally been given to another customer, or maybe they had fallen behind a cabinet in the back of the score. What mattered was that they were absolutely nowhere to be found. Worse, they were sold out of the make and size that I had ordered. Over the course of a few weeks, the store worked with me to make things right. In the early days of the situation, they sent me home with a backup pair, and later, when the original pair failed to show up, the owner sat down with me to hand-select a pair that was as similar as possible to the one they had lost. Suffice it to say, I would never get that kind of service at Levis. Every business makes mistakes, but very few can turn a mistake into a lesson in exemplary customer service. I don't know why in the world it took me so long to finally stop in here but the selection, staff, and service are incredible. The prices range from around $85 (brands like BlankNYC) to $300+ but you won't find a better selection anywhere else (Levi's Made and Crafted, James, Joes, big star, williamsburg garment co. etc...)The staff helped me find the best fit for my shape and stood by the fitting rooms to offer comments and suggestions while I was trying to determine what made my ass look even more incredible. Best of all, it's not insanely crowded and you feel like you are actually getting personal attention rather than shopping at Urban Outfitters where I feel I may one day actually have a full-fledged panic attack. read more

It's rare to come across a truly caring staff especially in this city and industry. I'm no big spender and jeans shop but once a year an have been treated incredibly well every time I've stepped foot in the door. Most recently Marika helped filter through the huge selection of jeans to find exactly what I was looking for. The two pairs I ended up with were tailored perfectly and were ready within 2-3 days. I highly recommend them for alterations as well. A few years ago, instead of spending an outrageous amount for the suit I wanted for my wedding I ordered a similar looking budget suit and had BDC tailor it. It was perfect again and I couldn't have felt, looked or been happier. Cheers! Excellent experience here. Buying jeans can be a sobering experience for anyone, but this place makes it easy and even educational! Frank spent about a half hour with me, gave some honest opinions, and helped me find the best thing for my style needs and body type. Prices were extremely reasonable for quality denim. The part that really put me over the moon about Brooklyn Denim Co is the complimentary on-site tailoring. I am very short. Every pair of pants I ever buy needs to be hemmed, and that is usually a trip to the tailor and $20 for each pair of pants. Not any more! One stop, one price, best jeans. Best ever. read more

What an experience. As a plus-size woman my options for denim are limited. I told the attendant what I wanted and he immediately pulled several styles for me, even helping me convert foreign sizing and grabbing me a tshirt to try them with as I was wearing a sun dress. Within 20min he had fitted me with my dream jeans, not giving up when the first few weren't right. A little pricey at $210 but made in the USA, excellent quality, a perfect souvenir of New York and a nice holiday treat to myself. I found the staff friendly, helpful and understanding. The only down side was that I wasn't able to take advantage of the free hemming service as it was a four day wait. Would highly recommend to all who have trouble buying the perfect jeans, especially if you are a unique shape or size. Allow some time to be correctly fitted. read more

Ever since my boyfriend bought a pair of selvedge jeans in the spring, I've been on the hunt for my own pair. Earlier this year, we'd wandered into Brooklyn Denim and I tried on a pair of Baldwin Ten Skinny jeans which I'd had my heart set on, but with the approaching hot summer I thought it best to leave the heavy denim purchase for the fall. Yesterday we came back to try out the Baldwin pair again, but unfortunately this time around they were sold out in my size. Having said that, the guy who helped me was super knowledgable and asked me a few questions about what I was looking for, then found several pairs for me to try on, including the Baldwins in a size up just to jog my memory a bit. Unlike most of my shopping experiences, I didn't feel at all pressured or condescended towards, just got a really friendly and helpful vibe as I tried on pair after pair of skinny and straight raw denim choices. When all was said and done, I ended up picking out a pair of 3sixteen slim straight jeans that needed hemming (which they do for free with purchase). Originally the quoted pickup time was going to be mid-week, however they ended up calling this morning to tell me that the jeans were ready for pickup. Wow! Now I've got a great pair of jeans to start my week with, and I couldn't be more happier that I have a dependable denim shop that I can find my size in. Yay! read more

This store is a denim lovers paradise. Frank, the owner of the store is incredibly friendly and just an all around nice guy. I walked in here yesterday after hearing about this store on some various blogs. Apparently, he has over 30 years of experience working for some of the top denim lines and opened his store because of the relationships he has with some of the top domestic and international boutique denim companies around today. We chatted about how the owner of Tellason use to run a vineyard as well as how there are only 3-4 major denim mills left in the USA. I wasn't even buying anything and he was more then happy to chat with me for a bit. Will definitely be returning here when I get my next chunk of change. Can't go wrong shopping here. read more

Brooklyn Denim Co. is the best place to buy jeans that I have ever found. Anywhere. In any neighborhood, city, country, continent. The owner is incredibly knowledgable, has a wide variety of types of jeans and is friendly, patient and engaged. The selection is great - it's bit pricer, but these are high-quality jeans. You're buying jeans you can wear for years. I consider them an investment. I had an issue with a pair of jeans (the zipper broke off the fly). I brought it back to the store to see if they could repair it. Not only did they repair it, they didn't charge a dime, because I bought the jeans there! Additionally, I'm quite a bit taller than average, and I was able to find awesome jeans. I've purchased a total of 4 pairs of jeans here in the past two years, and I'm happy with all of them. I got a pair of unbranded jeans from them, and the leg opening was way too big. I had them taper it down to 7.5 inches, and hemmed them 3 inches. I decided that it was still too loose and they tapered it down to 6.75 inches and hemmed them another inch a half for free! The jeans came out perfectly and the tailoring was awesome. The dude that owns this place is totally passionate about what he does and what he sells. They know how to fit you and have a big selection of the "new" vintage levi's, blank, ag, james jeans, rogan, loomstate, lots of great stuff. Oh, and they do a mid-day happy hour on the weekend with beer, tequila, and whisky-- who doesn't like free drinks while shopping? I settled on a page of jeans I'm super happy with. Then, I asked him to show me what they had that was different. I went to the piles of sales stuff and dug out some really interesting pants. I tried a few more on. Next thing I know, I find myself walking out of there with two new pieces of excellent denim. I live on the west coast and wasn't going to get a chance to get back to the store before I left so they rushed the length alterations for no charge. Overall a pretty good place to find a large selection of high quality, nice jeans. I definitely agree with others here about the hovering salespeople though - it's seemingly impossible to go 30 seconds in this store without being asked how you like something, what you're looking for, or being recommended something else. I've gone here numerous times and this happens every time with many different salespeople so seems like they're being told to do it. **This post is specifically about alterations** Once upon a time I was feelin' myself and eating less garbage so decided to take the waist in on a pair of high waisted jeans. I (mistakenly) took them to my regular tailor who took them in and I thought they were ok despite the seams busting open once and me needing to unbutton them when I sat after lunch. Fail. When i asked him to add some material back in, he said it was impossible but I told him nothing is impossible. In my search for a more expert alternative, I landed here. When I came in, I explained the issue and we discussed what amount I needed added back on the waist. I thought it was weird that i didn't have to try them in to illustrate but I trusted them. They specifically made sure I knew that the pants would need external fabric added in and it wouldn't look perfectly seamless. Fine with me! Just wanted to wear them again. I picked them up and was happily surprised as both how good they looked (almost seamless to me), how well they fit, and the better quality of the work as compared to my first tailoring job. TLDR: solid waist alteration, never not bringing jeans to a specialist again. read more

I went to so many places trying to find a pair of black denim jeans that I felt would look good on my body type. Came here because I heard they carried Imogene and Willie jeans that had a style I thought might work and SO happy I did. The guy who helped me was super knowledgable, patient and gave me the personal attention I needed without feeling the least bit overbearing. He pulled the high waist, slim/straight style I was looking for, as well as another brand with the same fit and stayed close by the fitting rooms to help me with tips for fitting (they do hemming for free by the way) and size advice (I was convinced a size would be way too small and low and behold, it was perfect). Ended up getting the black denim jeans I had come in for (which were also sold out everywhere else I had looked) AND I'm definitely coming back for another pair in indigo that I'm now sold on thanks to them. I've had it with this place. I've spent thousands of dollars at Brooklyn Denim Company over the past couple of years, but every time I browse the store, all of the employees follow me around like they think I'm going to shoplift something. If they have a theft problem, maybe they should hire a security guard or invest in an electronic tagging system. Either would cost them less than alienating formerly loyal customers. And by the way, the prices are pretty terrible -- everything in the store can be found for much cheaper online from other sellers. read more
