Whenever I go on vacation, being a guitar gear nut, I do my best to seek out at least one local…read moreguitar shop; partly because I'm curious to see if there are any deals or gear that I've never seen, and also because there are times I don't bring a guitar and need to play. On this trip, I satisfied both at Sunday Guitars. It's a small, locally-owned and operated shop. From what I could tell, there were no more than 50-60 guitars on the walls, with a large proportion being acoustic guitars. They had very few mainstream, name-brand guitars. But the guitars they did have were all set up nicely and had a great sound. It was pretty slow in the shop - I came in on a Sunday - and according to Ted, the owner, Sundays were usually pretty slow. And at that, he directed me to a cord and an amp to plug in. He took down a guitar from the rack and plugged in and we just jammed for a while. That was just SO cool! At that point, I didn't even know his name. We were just talking about gear and playing at different venues and it was just an organic thing. Just enjoying the beautiful day playing guitar. One of the things that I have found in my travels is that these small shops usually have one or two special things that sets them apart from their competition. Sunday Guitars is no exception. They sell these guitars made from a local builder called Iron STIX. These are metal, hollow-body guitars completely hand-welded. The builder uses discarded guitar parts for the neck and electronics and that's totally cool! But what makes them even more special is that the builder is literally one-handed. He lost the use of his left arm in a motorcycle accident! So with that guitar, which I played during my jam session with Ted, I satisfied my curiosity for cool, interesting gear. There's definitely a great vibe at Sunday Guitars. Ted's not at all pushy. He's super-friendly and he greets everyone who enters the shop with a smile and he goes out of his way to make people feel comfortable. Great energy in this shop. The next time I'm in Bend, Sunday Guitars will be one of my must-visit places to go!

Just had a fantastic experience with Joe and will be a customer for life! My daughter recently…read morereceived a family heirloom violin, that needed a bit of care. Knowing virtually nothing about violins in general (despite being a guitarist myself and watching my daughter play for years now), I took the violin in to see what Joe thought about the needed repairs and if my daughter should use this as her everyday player or look at rentals. He won me over when he encouraged me to let her play it as much as possible and get joy out of it. The violin is old and has been in the family for a very long time but is not particularly valuable. I didn't realize how minor the "repair" needed was. Joe immediately made the adjustments on the spot, teaching me all along the way. Out of this world service! I could tell by my brief interaction as well as overhearing his customer service to others in the store while I waited to be helped, that Joe is 100% genuine and seems to love what he does.

I met Joe as a repair technician in the early 90's. I was impressed by his technical knowledge,…read moreenergy, and sincere desire to help me with a saxophone issue. I have since purchased a good deal of music gear from Just Joe's Music where Joe is absolutely focused on my needs and satisfaction, above all. Joe has been a key influence to the Jazz scene in Bend - hosting professional jazz shows at the local Community Theater, active playing in a number of College bands, and bringing a more intimate night club feel with smaller combos at his retail location. I am deeply appreciative of his knowledge and continued support of me and others who strive to be better musicians.

I'm now stuck with a guitar that I love to play, sounds fantastic and can't trust. I'm "stuck on the stage, giving a concert" when the sound goes out. Ugggg... Support can be challenging, especially when the product is not longer under warranty, because I purchased it second hand. But some advice would be really helpful dudes.

Maybe not beating Martin or Taylor, but better than Gibson in my opinion and I own all of them plus a few more. The expensive Breedlove guitars are 5 stars for sure! They play beautiful, have great wood and sound lively and clear. They come with great cases and the electronics are non intrusive to the guitar. You don't even know they are there. Super cool ! Customer service ? you're kinda on your own and when you have troubles the service is shitty. The customer service lady Anne was terrible, she could not explain the repair process at all, she said she had no local repairs and I had to mail it just to look at it, with me paying both ways, then when I complained she suddenly had a semi local guy about an hour away. She had attitude and was not knowledgable about the guitar I was calling about and treated me with a condescending attitude. And when I proved she was wrong, she got even more attitude and made the whole experience uncomfortable when I was just trying to talk about the guitar. Very defensive for customer service. I will probably not buy a Breedlove since customer service is kinda nil. Taylor and Martin have much better service and local repair masters. WHY 2 stars then???? I paid $3,500 for a guitar, that is not working cause of how it was built, this is the third time I had issue with the warrantee, (they fixed one, I fixed one issue) and now I'm being really nice and not getting mad yet I'm treated shitty on the phone and email. People need to know this before buying.

I'm continually blown away by Butch's craftsmanship and service…read more -He's fixed a broken headstock on my Gibson Les Paul Standard flawlessly. He faithfully restored my father's 1961 Gretsch Tennessean to daily player status. He's done numerous setups for me on all my quality guitars, and they're always spot-on! I make the trek all the way up from Los Angeles to SLO because he does the best work I've seen. -So when my grandmother asked me if I knew anyone who could repair the guitar she bought as a 25th wedding anniversary gift for my now-departed grandfather, I was excited to see how Butch could turn the family heirloom around and restore it to its original smooth playable glory. -The vintage 1966 Martin D18 needed quite a bit of work (neck reset, re-fret, bridge repair, pickguard/finish repair). It was used (and abused) for years in my grandparents' bluegrass band. Thankfully Grandma was the original purchaser, and Butch was happy to put in the leg-work to make sure her guitar was covered under its 43-year-old original factory warranty (even though the factory's reimbursement rates aren't quite comparable to what he could have made on the project if he'd charged out-of-pocket). What a guy! -I picked the guitar up on Tuesday after a couple weeks' turnaround time, and it's an understatement to say my confidence in Butch has been reaffirmed! The Martin plays like a new guitar, only with the same full vintage tone and priceless history. -Butch has already followed up via email to make sure we're fully satisfied. He actually cares! The only way the family could be more pleased would be if Grandpa was still here to pick a little "Turkey in the Straw" on it himself. -He's also got a fine selection of consignment guitars hanging in his shop at perfectly reasonable prices as well. And if Butch is vouching for them, you know they're quality instruments. -Do yourselves a favor: Trust Butch.
