Except this time...But Boot Barn loses, I run a multi-million dollar landscape company and we're considering using their corporate gear program. This is a little long but will describe my Schnee Beartooth boots purchased online a while back, and the bad experience and unprofessional / suspicious activities. Schnee boot had severe toe side pressure and starts narrowing early about 3 inches from boot tip. I described this to the Schnees representative in detail before purchase as something I didn't want and was told their boots were not like that. Heel and mid foot felt ok. The boot felt lighter and lower quality than other quality made boots. Water proofing not GORE TEX. Not the quality their full retail price would suggest. Looked pretty good, but had numerous minor flaws like some rub/scratch marks and a manufacturing defect. Packaging paper was cheap/thin, was torn up and did not provide proper protection for the boots for shipping. Very unprofessional. I signed up for their 10% off my first order by getting their Score email subscription only to find out later that I don't get the 10% off even though it is my first order because my boots were on holiday sale. Then later I get an email from them giving me a 10% off on my first order about 1 week after I already placed my first order. Confusing order/delivery, Bolt secure payments sign-up, and marketing emails making it too many emails just to buy a pair of boots. Aggravating. I could not enter a review on their website (invite only apparently). Maybe one reason they don't have many bad reviews. With so many different feet out there and manufacturing / material defects possible, even good boot companies should have a fair amount of poor reviews. There were like 247 reviews on my boot and I can't find bad reviews anywhere? Highly suspicious. Keep in mind, that since they are the manufacturer and primary seller, they have strong control over who has access to submit reviews, so you never know if their ratings are unbiased or not. After a couple weeks I had to request a review email then had a aggravating experience getting the review submitted. Then the problem pictures I successfully submitted did not show like in many of their good reviews. I thought to myself that if they are a suspect company, they would probably bury it where very few people would likely see it. Time consuming from a cell phone, but found it buried way at the back/end where you might expect the oldest reviews. They also do not give viewers the ability to select which reviews by rating to see like other online sites. Their reviews control is a little alarming to me. They took time to answer my questions when I talked to them but overall, just disappointed in the fit, quality and experience. They handled the return but never contacted me when they processed the return and had to follow-up with them. It's was like a pain in the butt nightmare buying boots from these guys and was a major waste of my time, and they did not seem to care much. Afterwards, I bought a fairly tall LOWA heavy back packing boot in same size (verified same length and width) and not one single problem. Same for my other light hiking pair from Lowa. Lowa boots were super easy to order, looked great, no defects/damage, fit well, and no severe toe side pressure. read more

My thoughts- I've stopped into Second Wind a few times over the years in search of gear/clothing for personal use, but have consistently walked away disappointed if not empty-handed because their pricing is exorbitant and stupidly inflated, and I have no shame in using that sort of verbiage. An example from today that caught me so off guard I did some research, subsequently leading me to writing this review- a heavily used & visibly stained/faded Patagonia vest listed at $115, which is $16 less than the retail price on Patagonia's own website ($131). In my opinion and personal experience, this is not an isolated case- a lot of their merchandise is significantly worn, sometimes even dirty, and still priced like it's barely been used. While I did find and purchase a cute pair of pants that were reasonably priced and in good shape today, it unfortunately doesn't negate the general pattern of overpricing. Selling gear in highly used and rough condition for near-retail prices undermines the whole point of secondhand shopping and if we're being honest, many locals have access to outdoor industry discounts that include the benefit of full warranties. Trying to resell deeply used gear at near-retail prices just feels exploitative in that context. Even online secondhand platforms like Depop tend to be far more equitably priced and transparent about quality. I'm all for supporting secondhand and local businesses, but not when it starts to feel greedy and borderline shady. Pricing like this erodes trust and defeats the purpose of resale. There are more transparent, affordable, and community-minded options out there-- please shop around.

There's a fun shoe section with some cowboy boots - though they just weren't my size *cries* They have a couple of mirrors around the shop as well as a dressing room, so it's a fun place to play dress up. I did find two jackets as well as a gold belt that I liked on this trip, so it was still a success! Being from the NYC area, I was blown away by what I found at Recouture Consignment in Bozeman, Montana. Their selection perfectly reflected the local vibe and season--think Pendleton sweaters, Woolrich jackets, high-end ski gear, and other amazing winter finds. On top of that, they had plenty of designer and brand-name pieces at incredible prices. I scored a Marc Jacobs crossbody bag, some great plaid button-downs, a beautiful collection of scarves and shawls, and even some super cool jewelry. He was beyond accommodating and put me on a pair of stockli skis. I skied about half a day And broke my boot. Had to be transported back to the bottom via snowmobile. Garret set me up immediately and we were off to ski the rest of the day. I've worked in ski resorts and know how many employees get burned out or develop bad attitudes. Not with this establishment. Top notch in both locations.
