REI Bozeman is definitely different than REI Portland. This location is more about snow sports and mountain biking than anything else. The service is pretty good until it's not. Went to exchange a parka for a different size and was literally just left at the counter waiting for the gal to come back and help me but she never did. I had to find an employee to help me find the right size. They weren't even busy at the time. My second visit went a lot better. Needed some new Keens for getting around since my old ones had zero tread on the bottom. Found exactly what I needed and was happy with that. I then went over to the bike department to get some new tires for my e-bike but was disappointed in the selection and never found what I needed. The prices are comparable to all the other REI stores. read more

This REI was a lifesaver on a trip I took to Yellowstone a few years ago. I'm a novice when it comes to planning National Parks trips and so I failed to realize Yellowstone is closed to automatic vehicles beginning in November to prepare for the snow season. I planned this wonderful long weekend excursion to see Yellowstone only to be alerted by my GPS that the road into the park was going to be closed. This prompted a quick google search of Yellowstone that told me that it would in fact be closed to cars when I got there. Thinking quickly I called a bike/ski shop in the town next to the west entrance to the park and reserved a couple of bikes for us to ride. What I didn't have and needed to add to my sports equipment collection at home anyway were padded bicycling shorts, a padded bicycle seat, and bicycling shoes. I dropped in here and found everything I needed within 10 minutes. What a find! In a few more minutes I was able to hit the road and have an amazing experience in a near empty Nat'l Park, just me and the wildlife (hellloooo bison and lots of bison droppings on the road!) 50 mile impromptu bike ride wha?! Thanks to REI it was mostly painless! read more

Great staff. Not as big as my "home store", but they have a decent selection. My wife got a rain jacket and some shoes, I got some Oboz shoes. The sales lady was fantastic. Half of the shoes I wanted to try weren't available in my size (size 11), I tried the 11.5, but they weren't right. If they had more sizes, I would have given 5 stars. read more

Shopping at this REI has been just as pleasant as shopping at other stores in the chain. They have high quality items normally are reasonable some are expansive because they are higher quality then normal or will last you forever. The employees there helped with all the questions I have. Though they are not dog friendly so really the only reason I might not shop her if I have my dog or need to by something for my dog. Other then that there rewards program is pretty good and I haven't had a bad experience to date. read more

I needed a backpack for an overnight hike. I had done a lot of backpacking in my youth (30+ years ago) but was in need of a new backpack. In looking at stores in Bozeman, I noticed that REI had a mask mandate and that it was next to a discount camping store. I liked the mask mandate and the idea that I could go to the discount store next door if the prices were too high. I could not have been more pleased with my experience at REI. Stryder (the salesman in the backpack department) took me through my options for my needs, measured my torso to get the right size, adjusted the two different packs to match my size, showed how to wear it correctly, added weights to the backpacks and let me walk around with them on weighted. No need to go to the discount store, with service this good and some sale discounts on the backpacks, I walked out a very happy 'camper'. read more

Imagine Dick's Sporting Goods and Sports Authority had a drunken one night stand; nine months later REI was born. The store is everything outdoors on steroids (like Mark McGuire Sammy Sosa 1998 home run battle steroids)- hey, it was fun times! It is fun times at this store. It has everything a male or female from my perspective could want: bikes, hiking gear, skiing gear, camping, storage, camp cooking supplies, folks were talking the whole kit and caboodle. This specific store had great customer service during my visits here, during those visits I've purchased two pairs of hiking shoes, socks and hydration pack. During one visit they where hosting a yoga class. Go figure! The location is on the booming development side of town in Bozeman and there are plenty other shops and eateries.
