In February 2025, I had two teeth extracted at the Broad Hollow Road Melville location. First…read morethings first. Although their website lists Dr. Branden Brar, including his photo, as the oral surgeon who treats patients at that Melville office, the oral surgeon who actually performed the extraction on me matched the image of a different oral surgeon by the name of Dr. Ross Chavkin whom the website lists as the founder of this organization. So, assuming the website accurately paired Dr. Chavkin with this image, he is the oral surgeon who performed the extraction. At the outset, I am not a person who fears dentists. In fact, except for root canal treatment, gum surgery and extractions (all of which are part my dental history), I always refuse any local anesthesia for minor dental procedures such as drilling cavities, scaling and so on because I prefer tolerating the brief moments of nerve pain (each lasting only a fraction of a second) to the approximate three hour period of annoying numbness before the anesthesia completely wears off. Although not important to me, I found Dr. Chavkin's demeanor to be not particularly personable. Except as mentioned below, he didn't speak to me at any other time during the procedure. I give Dr. Chavkin's performance at extracting teeth a poor rating. He is not gentle. He lacks finesse. He is not careful at minimizing injury to surrounding gum tissue when using the extraction tool. Perhaps he is aware of his lack of manual dexterity and relies on gum surgery to repair the damaged tissue. Although I have undergone several extractions over the years, most of them did not require any gum surgery (stiches). Dr. Chavkin essentially butchered my gum during both extractions, requiring stiches. His extraction of my top front tooth was particularly carelessly performed in that he nearly completely severed a piece of gum tissue in order to make it easier for him to grasp the tooth with the extraction tool. In fact, he cut so far up from the base of the gum that the incision reached a location that was not completely anesthetized, causing me to experience intense pain. In addition, my gum apparently began bleeding profusely because he asked me if I'm sure I didn't take any blood thinning medication, to which I answered "yes." As of the date of this writing, May 4, 2025, I still feel a nerve sensation (albeit not painful) when I apply pressure to the top of my lip over the location of that incision, which evidences nerve damage. I am writing this review because I feel morally obligated to inform potential patients of my experience.
