Long, DETAILED review: Schmidt Funeral Home provided amazing service for my mothers funeral yesterday, Oct 11th. We worked with both Jordan and Megan during the planning process, and both were very explanatory, compassionate, and professional. My family toured four different funeral homes for my mother's memorial service, and this one was by far the best choice for us. * My mother wished to be cremated, and they have their own crematorium, which streamlined the process. I never felt like they were trying to upsell us on anything. Jordan also explained the process of transferring her body from the hospital and the process for the cremation, which made us feel assured that my mother's body/remains would be safe and cared for while with them. * We chose to also book their reception hall, which was also lovely and in great condition. Two large refrigerators, sinks, built in food warmers, tables, chairs, simple optional center pieces, a separate exit for a small outside sitting space, and lots of counter space to place the food and drinks. * They allow you to bring your own food and drinks, or any outside catering you want (no alcohol). This was a much better option for my family as we wanted to serve the food that my mother loved, and we didn't like that at OTHER funeral homes we toured that we would be forced to pay a lot more money for their set catering foods that didn't work for our family. * They had the option of live streaming for people who weren't able to attend in-person and we have a recording of the live streaming (only wish they would've told us that the live-stream/ recording only picks up the audio if the person is speaking at the podium, as all our family and friends chose to speak from their seats). This was the only funeral home that even had the live-stream option. * They made uploading photos and videos for my mother's slideshow simple, and well as the songs that would play during the reception. *We wrote her obituary ourselves, but they had the option to help families who needed it in creating. Once we sent the obituary to them, they uploaded it to their obituary site and it is absolutely lovely, yellow roses in the background and a beautiful gold vine border around my mother's photo. *They worked seamlessly with both my mother's life insurance company, and the florist we chose (KD's Flowers) so it was less things we had to worry about. * They had many men in suits working and ready to help us at every single turn (opening doors, carrying food items to and from cars, reminding people to sign the guest book, passing out the funeral pamphlets we created, helping usher us to the reception hall following the service, etc.) * There was a small play room for children who might be stressed or rowdy during a Funeral. There were no young children at my mother's funeral, but it was nice that the option existed. * They gave us premade thank you cards that we can send out to thank all the guests who attended the memorial. * Projectors on both sides of the hall that come down and show the slideshow before the service (The slideshow also plays in the reception hall). * I can't remember if our officiant for the service, Daniel, who led the prayer was through them or if Schmidt Funeral Home just connected us to him. If he is, I definitely want to say he was great, too, we had a meeting with him where he got to know our family and stories about our mother. During the service, it all felt very personal, customized, and warm. *They provided many other details that I can't recall. I wanted to do this review while I still remembered as much as possible. Schmidt Funeral Home truly went above and beyond to ensure we were able to celebrate the memory of our dad. Caught between a hurricane and prepaid family plane tickets, we did not think the scheduled service could take place. But the day after the hurricane hit, with no power in the area, the staff opened the Grand Parkway location to hold my dad's memorial. We are grateful for all of the staff who supported us through a difficult time particularly when they were also impacted by the storm. Over the years Schmidt Funeral Home has helped my family with several funerals--3 grandparents, both parents and my brother. From the first phone call to the end of the process, the staff was there to guide and help us with making decisions and offering suggestions that made it easier for us. We cannot begin to express how much we appreciated the care and 5 star service we just experienced from Schmidt. Cyndi Hoots is absolutely amazing. She took great care of us from our very first meeting to the very last minute we were at the Service for our son. We lost him to a tragic motorcycle accident recently and our emotions were raw and we were clueless on each step. Cyndi held our hands the entire way. My father's funeral services were held here just last weekend. I found the folks here to be incredibly competent, respectful, kind, and helpful. Their assistance and care was a real positive in a very overwhelming time for my family. Also, I have a genuine appreciation for the staff here for all their help especially on the day of the service: anything we needed they did their very best to provide. The services provided include a way to publish an obituary and a photo slideshow online, eg in advance of the services. Also, the slideshow played during the services, which added a nice aspect to our honoring our loved one. read more

On 16 January 2022, I, contracted the Schmidt Funeral Home to provide preparations for viewing and also with cremation for my twin brother (Edwin F. Ortiz). The viewing date was scheduled for 30 January 2022. The set up of the general area for the viewing was according to the procedures already established by the Schmidt Funeral Home and family members. However, during the viewing of my brother's, I noticed that the casket had a scratch on the wood head part area of about 2 inches long and about less than ¼ of an inch wide. This is something unacceptable to me and at the same time to my family. What do you do in a situation like that? Bring it to the doorman's attention for him to run and find someone that is responsible for such issues? Or just suck it up and wait for the service to finish. So I decided to wait and address the issue later. I had the opportunity to address the issue with Mr. Cheyenne Eichelhelberger Funeral Director when picking up my brother's remains. He did apologize, but it was not the answer I was expecting. Instead, he said that he will investigate who signed up for the casket when delivered to them. What they need to investigate is, who's the person or persons responsible for not ensuring that a quality control check of the casket and remains were done according to the standards and procedures already established, by a well known Funeral Home "Quality check". That only shows a lack of professionalism, no consideration, and disrespects to the family. There is a need to address these issues with the Schmidt Funeral Home to ensure that the high standards of service are always maintained for those families in grieve and their business. read more

Prices were very excessive which did not even include any sort of coffee or snacks, however we went along with it because we figured the service would be A+. Did not expect attitude and terrible communication between the staff. Received so many phone calls asking the same questions over and over again. We felt like nothing more than just business. I will say Pastor Schramm held the service and he was a sweetheart, very comforting and respectful. He made this experience bearable. Most definitely will not be using this funeral home services from this point forward. For the price you can most definitely find a more accommodating funeral home elsewhere. Don't go there!!! Over priced for the service. They prey on our Senior Citizens and even brag "Hank Schmidt" never gives discounts... including NO Veteran Discounts. They took advantage of our elderly parents and laughed when the said..."They signed the contract". Sham on Them!!! read more

There's a saying your first impression is your last impression. When we got inside, this place was designed with modern nice decors and clean. However, the staff was not friendly and inviting. The lady (slender woman with blond hair) who gave us the information today and pricing did not seem like she wanted to be there, she look very mad and angry. When we were asking questions, her answers was very short and NOT clear. We been to other funeral homes today and the staff was super friendly and seems they are willing to go an extra mile to help. I would think most of the employees that work funeral homes are friendly considering the tragic things that the families are going through and loosing their love ones but this place was not. I had this vibe feeling that they were all about that money and that lady who was giving us the info was kind of rude and snobby. Last, their prices are extremely high compared to other funeral homes around the area. They charge for every since thing you can think of! I do NOT recommend this place! read more
