When we think of a love when passing away, the last thing we think of are the financial burdens that we have to think of for the services. Me and my family went to several different locations in Rosenberg and Richmond and the Southwest area each and everyone of them were out of our budget and if I'm being completely honest, I felt like most of them saw it as a business transaction and didn't show any sympathy For us. My aunt passed away on Friday. We moved quickly to find a funeral home and cremation for that Sunday. Winford was selected by the family, and I helped organize part of it. They were responsive to phone calls and emails. We got live streaming set up on an mobile iPad (important for relatives in India), which wasn't advertised on their website - live stream went off without a hitch (including perfect audio streamed online). We were able to get photos up and so forth. They were responsive, helpful and just got stuff done without hassle (with multiple family members peppering them with different questions at different times). I don't know how 'fancy' this setup is (there are two wings in the home, that are very distant from each other) - but it was all spotless, modern in feel, and most importantly - we felt comfortable and well taken care of. read more

Never thought to review a funeral home but here goes. My family celebrated the life of our loved one here back in July. The service here was nice, professional, and they were very helpful. It seems that majority of the asian community comes here to celebrate the life of their loved ones. The place is big so they were able to accommodate from small to even large ceremonies. However i do have to mention, we did run out of seats for everyone where they end up filling the sides, the hallways, and reception area. What I appreciate was they were willing to help and accommodate to anything and every tradition that families may request. We invited various monks to the 3-day viewing/prayers where anyone was able to come and visit from open to close. They made sure we knew the rules and regulations by the laws to even religious traditions. They do treat you like family. We were able to set up a video stream of photos. We had tables set up for sign in and refreshments. There is also a small kitchen with a sink and refrigerator to keep food/drinks chilled. The place also has a floral department within the funeral home so if people wanted to order floral arrangements, they could do it within the facility. However, they do allow outside delivery. Winford also allowed our friends and family to conduct a candle light vigil outside the facility and do a balloon release in dedication to our loved one. Be blessed. read more

My Dad passed away recently, and based on advice of friends, we decided to contact Winford Funerals. It was probably the best decision we could have made. It was the first time a close relative had died in our immediate family, and we didn't really know what to do, where to go, etc. John Reyna came by to the hospital and picked up the body and from there, showed us and advised us step by step all we needed to do. We discussed with him the government regulations and documentation, funeral arrangements, the casket, cremation, all aspects of arrangements. He was very patient with our constant questions, came early to help with funeral. He was never "pushy", gave us space to make our own research and decisions. He gave us extremely competitive funeral prices (we researched), and guided us each step of the way. It really is out of the norm for me to review a funeral home and also giving it 5 stars was a bit odd, but seeing the previous Yelp reviews for Winford Funeral Home helped give me peace of mind that they were great at taking care of folks in such difficult times. My wonderful loving Mom passed away last month all of a sudden and having to make decisions on what to do next was very hard. We originally had her at an American funeral home, which is also a great place, but being Vietnamese, the folks attending would not understand the American way versus the Asian way. So we ended up having her transferred over to Winford Funeral Home, which is the only Asian funeral home in Houston and is also known as Nha Quan Vinh Phuoc as advertised among the Vietnamese community through television, radio, and newspapers/magazines. They are knowledgeable in ALOT of the Asian and religious customs and practices and even helped recommend a temple that would come out and pray for my Mom for three days. Yes, the typical Asian funeral ceremony is three days. They set up the altar and everything presented very respectfully for your loved one. We had a traditional Buddhist ceremony and the monks and temple folks from Tinh Luat Temple came out and chanted prayers for my Mom. We had my Mom cremated as that was her wish and so the monks and temple folks chanted prayers the whole time from the journey from the funeral home to the crematory in the back of the building. I am at peace knowing we had my Mom in good hands of good people. The funeral home staff is very nice. They entertained my toddler son and always helped get things done fast. They listened to us when we were just sad and wanted to talk. I will never forget when I was in the crematory there was a gentlemen who was responsible for doing the monitoring of the cremation was talking to me and I said that we had Mom at a different funeral home and he said that he was the one who came to pick up Mommy. Just him saying "Mommy" made me feel that he knew how painful it was to lose my Mom and that he knew she was very loved. No one wants to be in this situation, but if anyone is needing to know a good Asian funeral home that can do all the proper customs that go with a funeral and cremation, then this is the place. I've actually come here quite a bit for several funerals throughout my life. My first time here was about 12 years ago when my second uncle and great grandma passed away. I remembered it being a nice, clean, and well-maintained place that was more than ready to accommodate to my family's needs in those tragic times. I was way younger back then, but I never saw any problems my family would've had with this place. Now, a friend of mine passed away two months ago, in which I attended his wake and cremation the week after. This place is still the same clean and well-maintained place. They've got a full kitchen for people that are staying the whole day to keep food in and a pretty fountain outside of the place. So yes, this place does do cremations, and they also bring the caskets out to whichever cemetery you choose to have the person buried in (I'm sorry, I'm not exactly sure as to what the correct term is). This is the only funeral home I've ever been to in my life, but this will be the funeral home of my choosing if (God forbid) the time comes where I'd have to plan my first funeral. read more

In the interest of full disclosure, I have only visited this place inquiring about funeral services. I have never been to a service here, nor would I EVER recommend someone use this "facility." My wife was drawn to this place based on the reviews she read and the fact they specialize in Asian culture. My dad just passed and we were looking for a funeral service provider. At the risk of sounding like an upper class snob, the appearance was ghetto - probably because it's in the ghetto but I waited to hold judgement. The building is old, disheveled, and tired looking while the parking lot and walkway up to the entrance is cracked, uneven and littered with random trash... But I'm still reserving judgement. Upon entrance we were greeted by a large easel with 2 pieces of 8 1/2 x 11 paper flimsily taped on it. Each sheet had a large printed name on it and a hand drawn arrow pointing to the direction of the service. I get the feeling like I'm in a cheap pawn shop... But still withholding judgement. The man that greeted us was nice and took us to a "private" room to discuss the matters at hand. While we waited for him to join us, the door was open so we could hear and see all the ruckus in the hallway, just off the entrance. Eventually the door was shut and the man sat down with us. I could still hear the noise from the hall but whatever... I'm not judging the place based on the noise insulation. Five minutes into things someone knocks on the door and speaks some Cantonese and guy #1 leaves while guy #2 who interrupted takes his place. Pretty unprofessional... But let's give guy #2 a chance... Guy #2 the proceeds to tell me about how great they are and how they can cater to so many cultures, like Hindi... Because in Hindi culture you do things differently. In Hindi culture blah blah blah blah blah. We told him from the start we had no religious affiliation but I actually have to tell him 5 minutes into his Hindi rant that WE'RE NOT HINDI, LET'S MOVE ON. Ok, well how about Buddhism? We have connections at the Jade Temple. You can pretend your dad was a practicing Buddhist and they will come to help with a service. They won't charge you anything... It'll be free. They do this because... (Insert 15 minute rant about Buddhism and repeated emphatic references to "free" services). Now we're talking prices, services, time frames because he needs to draw permits. If it's a cremation, he needs a cremation permit. If it's a burial, he needs a burial permit... And something about some other permits... WTF do I care what you need to do behind the scenes???!!!! My father just passes and I'm supposed to worry about you doing your job as well???!!!!! And stop speaking in English to me!!! We came here so you could explain things in Chinese to my mom!!! Bottom line, these guys were pretty cheap in price but you pay in lack of compassion, dignity and respect. I wouldn't let these guys do a service for my daughter's pet hamster, let alone a member of my family, let alone my father. read more

I have both parents' funeral service here for cremation. My father passed before my mother. My father's coffin was furnished with fake flowers instead of real ones, the price that I paid for, $300. I was so sad and busy at the time that I didn't bother to make any dispute. The service is okay but a little disrespect at my mother's funeral. Because we didn't have many visitors, they just tore a page out of the sign-in book and gave us a piece of paper so that they can reuse the book. They try to pinch every bit of profit. read more

I've had a few family members buried here. The one I have most experience with is the death of my mom. A week before her death, my mom wanted to make sure everything was in order, so she called the funeral home. Well, they lost her initial deposit and said she still owed money. Fortunately, my mom always kept good records and was able to show them the deposited check. Then after her death, the funeral home couldn't say when we could view the body. All the person on the phone kept saying was "it took time to prepare the body". Well, how long will that take? "It takes time to prepare the body." Ok so after they prepare the body, when can we see her. "it takes time to prepare the body." After about 5 minutes of this, I gave up. Maybe she didn't understand me...but anyway, it's about 2-3 days. Once I was able to see people face-to-face, they were very nice and everything went smoothly, but I had minimal contact with them really. Personally, Winford funeral is all about the money.
