I love this restaurant. I used to live as a student in a share house in Barkley St. and I worked part-time at Edelweiss Delicatessen, Acland Street. Unfortunately Edelweiss is long gone as are too many others that were the original essence of Acland Street. Before Just Jeans and the like moved in, Acland St was a combination of European food and bohemian shops selling WWII leather jackets, another, every kind of diamante jewelry you could imagine, another 2nd hand crockery, another, 2nd hand books and on and on ... And of course Scheherazade's, where I could get plum cake that was exactly like my mum's plum cake. I would love taking my parents there when they visited because the cake servings were big with lots of cream, which is the way we ate cake. Their cabbage roles were superb as was their cabbage soup. Their meal sizes were huge! No joke! And finally the atmosphere. The wallpaper was old fashioned and covered with sketches or photos anyway. It was not fashionable! It was like being at your grandparents place where things stayed the same. It was comfortable and trustworthy and finally familiar. I have to admit this review is from memory but I hope it's not irrelevant. Wonderful, wonderful Scheherazade, all my love to you. read more
