Entrecôte French Restaurant- Fine dining excellence
Angeleah A.

First time dining at Entrecôte for my husband and I and most definitely not the last - in fact I would say we will be become regular diners at Entrecôte. The menu selection was sufficiently catered to the authentic flavours of French cuisine, with the food presentation both delicate and tastefully appeasing. The flavours were absolutely delicious. Having travelled through France recently, and sampling Onion soup in every eatery we frequented, I must say Entrecôte's Onion Soup is the most delicious I have tasted - perfect balance of sweetness and tart and topped with a very generous mouth watering Gruyere crouton. Our other entree selection was the Saint Jaques Poelees - pan fried scallops served aloft on Chervil (parsley) herb arrangement, complimented by a refreshingly cool sauce gribiche and smoked aioli - just delightful. We chose the House Specialty for our main - Steak Frites- 250g of pasture fed Cape Grim Angus Porterhouse (cooked and rested to absolute medium-rare perfection) accompanied by a most delectable Maison au beurre et aux herbes sauce (akin to a herbed Bernaise sauce) and crispy frites. As suggested on the menu, we took the liberty of ordering an extra serve of frites and so pleased we did, as they were the most mouth-watering, satisfyingly crispy frites we have indulged in. We concluded our fine dining experience in dessert heaven - ordering the Creme Brûlée. It had hardly rested on our table 3 seconds before being consumed lickety-split. A culinary perfect dessert delicious beyond description. Service was exceptional - very attentive and quick -the ambiance of the restaurant divine with its intimate mood lighting and the pricing was appropriate for fine dining. Just a truly lovely dining experience from start to finish.

Little did I know that entrecôte is French for a particular cut of meat. Frites is French for fries? And this place specializes in just that. There you go! A match made in heaven. This place does steak and chips amazingly well. There is a delicious green sauce that accompanies the steak and frites, apparently the chef spent quite some time perfecting it in France. There are no other mains on the menu, but who needs options when this is clearly such a stand out dish? Steak is served with bread and butter, frites and salad. The waiter will continue to bring you frites until you can frite no more. (Glutton glutton glutton) This place is simply a must!! Reserve a table in advance.

You can't beat this place for atmosphere!! The staff are perfect and the mood tempts you to linger. Depending on your state of mind you can sprawl on the veranda (now enclosed and heated for winter - how perfect! ) or find a cosy nook in one of the many rooms in this grand old lady. I love that it's open from early morning till late, late at night. The menu is uncluttered and it's impossible to go wrong here but the steak with its addictive green sauce is a must have.

A slice of Paris in Melbourne entrecôte has perfectly captured the essence of a Parisienne eatery. From the tree lined street intimate round tables, romantic ambiance and of course the push bike with a basket of baguettes and flowers one could be forgiven for thinking you'd taken a holiday. What I love about entrecôte is the simplicity of the offering, oysters, steak and frites being the stars with a few extra small options thrown in for good measure the focus is on providing good quality tasty food. As always my dining companion and I are bent on trying as many things as possible and the desert menu called us before we'd even ordered. We settled upon a half a dozen Tasmanian oysters freshly schucked and served with a light seeded mustard vinigarette. I opted for a French apperatif of lillet Blanc with a twist of lemon which complimented the oysters beautifully. We then shared the steak which came came covered in a rich herb buttery sauce and a generous serve of fries and salad. If you're hungry fries can be topped up at no extra charge. To finish we opted for the profiter rolls. Each delicate house made pastry case was filled with a different ice cream favour, pear, vanilla bean and chocolate then sprinkled with cacao nibs and drizzled in melted milk chocolate sauce. In a word phenomenal. I love that the kitchen is open until midnight and I have to say I will be back again.

I really liked this place. We had dinner on Saturday night. The service was really friendly, the building is beautiful, and they have great steaks, oysters and wine, hard to go wrong. I'd read reviews of inattentive service etc, but that wasn't my experience at all. Also, I'd been told that you can't reserve here, but I was able to no problem. I'd very much return.

What a lovely place to dine on a sat night - whether it's a group or a couple it's a really nice place to go. The tables can be pretty close to each other and feels a bit squishy and a little noisy but if that doesn't bother you, worth going to. Ordered steak frites with bottomless fries and salad. The golden French fries were delicious as was the salad. The steak was not as good as I remembered it, I ordered medium rare and about half the steak was too chewy and tough to eat which was a little disappointing. The service was friendly and the crispy fries made up for it.

The fresh bread with French butter & frites are bottomless, so if you want more, ask; although initial servings are already generous!

Checked up the location and it was only 5 blocks away from where i was staying in Melbourne so it was a definite sign that i needed to go here :D!! Found out it's Shane Delia's invention, he's a perfectionist when it comes to food, have heard plenty great things about his Restaurant Maha & have some friends who have gotten a call from him asking how the service and food was :D. Went there on a friday night, was pleasant busy but that's Melbourne for you, never really crazy busy like Sydney which you get bored off now and then :D!! My cousin ordered the Juicy which was Beef kebab & a Brooklyn lager :),  i went for the Dirty South which was fried Chicken kebab & got the Brooklyn shake :D.. bourbon, cherry, white chocolate!! Both Kebabs had the perfect insides with the meat check out the menu for details & they were wrapped in fluffy pita bread it was LOVE at first bite and then heart break at last bite but my hunger was satisfied :D!! Brooklyn lager was definitely a different tasting beer and as for the Brooklyn shake i ordered another one ;D!! I could sit down for hours, eating & drinking :)... just being mellow with the Biggie vibes :D!! Can't wait to come back.. cousin stayed in Melbourne, so got to listen to him each week about what I'm missing out on lol!!

As this is a busy place we had various people both sides of us throughout our brunch. They now know more about my life than I'd prefer. The dishes my companion and I had were mighty impressive. For a start, both dishes were visually stunning (see photos), impressively composed and very flavoursome. Mine was the Huevos Sucios or the Dirty Eggs. I cannot fault the dish particularly as the jalapeño flavour was so beautifully balanced that it gave a delightful length to the meal that lasted well after I finished it. It was never over hot either. The temperature was bang on. Plus, I thought it was good value for money. The Dirty Mary for $10 with this dish is a steal and it's a superb drink. This is better than any version of Mary I tried recently in Hawaii where they'd claim to make the drink better. They don't. My dining companion had the king salmon which he declared as delicious too. Our coffees to finish were lovely as well and topped off a pleasant and successful venture. I'd like to give the place a 4.5, but that option isn't available as has been canvassed here at length. On balance, mainly due to the squeezy tables for two, I'd round down to 4 this time not up to 5. Tough judgements these.

I was wondering why such a popular spot would be so isolated? But all is well worth the effort to get here. The venue is brimming with natural lighting, classic charm and warmth. For my breakfast, I ordered the Pixelated avocado (on a sourdough toast) because it just looked so darn intriguing. I didn't expect anything else to be honest, and turned out this was GOOD!! Every single element in this dish has complex flavors that compliments each other. The chili dried air kale, diced pixelated avocado and the soft shell crab was especially stunning. The dish certainly performs to its Instagram ability. For my drink, I ordered their matcha latte; it was strong tasting yet smooth. I could drink this all day! The Light Years is certainly not disappointing in any way, from the beautiful venue to the outstanding food, supported with service and ambiance for days. Easily, my favorite brunch spot in town at the moment and much to recommend you :).

Recently opened at the bottom of a new apartment block just along from the Camberwell tram depot, it should not be confused with Lights in the Attic cafe which is a bit further down Camberwell Road. The fit out is the now common scandi/minimalist affair with a smattering of potted greenery. Coffee is from Dukes, but the star of the show here is the food. All the dishes I saw coming out looked great and were good sized portions. I had the bircher and it was a generous serve, looked pretty and tasted even better. Overall a good value and tasty option for brunch/lunch in the leafy inner east.
