The person working the upstairs counter couldn't be bothered to direct me to where the item was, and his attitude was beyond rude. When I asked if Alpers could install a lock the counter person without looking up gave a snarky "we don't do handyman work" as a response. I'll think twice before going back to Alpers, and will first choose Ace Hardware, or even Home Depot.

i'm tired of seeing management treat their employees like dog sh**. i walked in to ask for a torque…read morewrench and the obviously NEW EMPLOYEE brought me to torx wrenches.. honest mistake and i didn't mind so when they went to ask their employer/ superior what i was talking about the employer/ superior (who i believe is one of the owners maybe? because she's there everytime i stop in) gave them a crazy rude attitude then told them "show him where the ratchets are and leave me alone" in front of me with out realizing i was there.. to make things worse, when they did realize i was there she came out from her corner and rubbed the guy on the shoulders and made a cringe attempt at covering up the situation - claiming something like "oh new hire, he'll get it soon" and tried talking to me in a wildly different and more positive tone. i told her she should treat the guy nicer and instead of taking responsibility she said "no no that was nice it's ok." absolutely disgusting. i hope that kid quits and finds a better employer for their owner integrity. i will never patronize this business again... and this is coming from someone who is a business owner/ contractor of 17 years and knows what it's like to have employees. if you need a hardware store in port go to alpers or anywhere else besides here.

Foley's had BETTER PRICE than the Supermarket!…read more I decided to buy a Fix-A-Flat tire repair product for my son (who had a flat the week before) I went to my local supermarket, found Fix-A-Flat priced at $14, but figured Foley's might have it...and I like to patronize local businesses when possible. Turned out it was $12, two dollars cheaper, at Foley's, but I realized something else: Auto care, tools, and garden supplies are bread-and-butter to a hardware store, while they're just convenience items for a supermarket: stores like Foley's have to be well-stocked, and have knowledgeable staff who can answer questions. So now I will make Foley's my first choice for tools, because they know them best. But don't worry, supermarkets in Larchmont and Mamaroneck: If Foley's starts selling carrots and cauliflowers, I'll still buy them from you.
