The person working the upstairs counter couldn't be bothered to direct me to where the item was, and his attitude was beyond rude. When I asked if Alpers could install a lock the counter person without looking up gave a snarky "we don't do handyman work" as a response. I'll think twice before going back to Alpers, and will first choose Ace Hardware, or even Home Depot.

Unfortunately, the staff was far from welcoming. Instead of being helpful, they made me feel like I was inconveniencing them. Foley's had BETTER PRICE than the Supermarket!…read more I decided to buy a Fix-A-Flat tire repair product for my son (who had a flat the week before) I went to my local supermarket, found Fix-A-Flat priced at $14, but figured Foley's might have it...and I like to patronize local businesses when possible. Turned out it was $12, two dollars cheaper, at Foley's, but I realized something else: Auto care, tools, and garden supplies are bread-and-butter to a hardware store, while they're just convenience items for a supermarket: stores like Foley's have to be well-stocked, and have knowledgeable staff who can answer questions. So now I will make Foley's my first choice for tools, because they know them best. But don't worry, supermarkets in Larchmont and Mamaroneck: If Foley's starts selling carrots and cauliflowers, I'll still buy them from you.
