As soon as you get in they start making the arrangements on the phone while you are there so there is no doubt or question if something can be done or not. The loving funeral directors, limo driver and office staff were patient, understanding and went the extra mile. We are so grateful to them. I cannot thank them enough, any glitches, questions and or issues that arose were handled with patience, love, professionalism, care and in a timely manner. I'll preface this by saying the funeral I was tasked with planning was not for someone I was particularly close with and was a direct cremation with no funeral service- so it was a straight forward affair. No one had to go easy on me, the details were easy to sort out, the process simple, and the price affordable. I wanted a well reviewed, but affordable option and this place was the right choice. Despite being located in Brooklyn and the deceased being located in the Bronx, their rates were still the most affordable. It was one of the cheapest options across the board that I was able to find. That doesn't meant they skimp on professionalism (one the day I stopped in, they were holding a fire fighters funeral and still devoted plenty of attention to me and them). The building itself is old and well preserved and the staff was really incredible. I'm an odd person, I deal with even the worst things by using humor, and the staff here seemed to know I needed to laugh and smile and still be friendly, and they matched my tone. It's a hard thing to do in customer service. One thing to note: they don't print obituaries for you. I found this wasn't such an issue for me, and the gave me the extremely helpful suggestion of using a local paper based in the deceased borough that was far, far cheaper than using a major paper. They have a quiet little dog that sits in the office that the owner just adores. Everyone was very kind, and seemed to genuinely care about their job and the people they were working with. To be frank, despite the circumstances, it really seemed like a very nice working environment and that warmth was nice to see. read more

Pat took care of my family at the most tragic time of our lives. This was a very difficult time for me and my sister, we had no idea what to expect, what to do, or how to go about organizing a memorial service. Pat was very patient and caring. He took the time to sit with us, explain the different options, showed us Urns and Memorial cards. He is very personable, and helpful. He went over and beyond to make sure every detail was taken cared of from a photo slide show, to my dads ashes, and memorial service. I highly recommend his services to anyone who is looking for a place that will care and represent your love one well in this time of sorrow. The staff was also very professional and helpful as well. This Place was amazing... previously to my Pops passing we looked for a nice place that would accommodate our extra needs and request in the event my Pop passed. After sometime looking we decide to go with Daniel J. Scheafer Funeral Home. When he did recently they came immediately upon being called and were very remorseful & attentive towards our needs. On the day of the funeral despite there being issue in the family (like most family's have) the staff and the owner accommodated & resolved any issues immediately. The owner Pat was great towards our family. Afterward on the following day they transported my Pop's body to the Church then to the Airport without any delay. Daniel J. When my mother passed at only 50 years old from cancer, it was unexpected for us. We were financially and mentally not prepared to be burying our dear mother. At 23 years old, and having never planned a funeral, let alone my own mothers, i was extremely nervous and unprepared. I had checked a few homes before, some were out of our price range, others were affordable but their was no personal attention or care. When i arrived at Schaefer Funeral Home, i was attended by Pat. He was beyond helpful, making sure that the price was affordable, and making sure everything went smoothly. Pat and his staff were so amazing! We were able to create a beautiful service for our mom, and Pat really hooked us up with such a beautiful casket. We had just one viewing day, so we went a little over the time, and the staff wasn't pushy or trying to get us out. They really made us feel welcomed, and they didn't try to push anything on us we didn't need, nor did Pat try to up-sell us on anything. Wow, where do I begin, with the passing of my mother in law, the staff are very attentive, showing compassion and very professional as friends and family arrived. The initial process of setting up the arrangement was outstanding in that they thought of everything with some simple questions getting to details we didn't think of. I was looking for a direct cremation which means the funeral home picks up the deceased, takes them to a crematory, picks up the ashes, files and delivers death certificates. I live in Manhattan. This service alone can cost you, and will usually cost you, $3k to $5k. Beyond the fact that I paid only $1k here, dealing with Alicia and Joe was beyond a pleasure. Honourable, caring people. I cannot recommend highly enough. I may have another Yelp account at work with more reviews but I just opened one on my cell in order to leave this review before I forget, so it may be indicated as my only review, but rest assured it is legitimate and I hope others find the blessing I did with this establishment. Myrna Morales-Fraser, one of their licensed funeral directors, was sensitive, considerate and professional in handling my mother's funeral arrangements which was direct cremation and selection of urns. This was the second time I used Daniel J Schaefer Funeral Home. 4 years ago I had them handle the funeral arrangements for my mother's husband, my step-father, and they were great then as well. All the details, costs and communication was excellent and affordable. I can't say enough. This review is not about a funeral home, but rather about a stranger that brought some comfort and peace to a grieving family that had been devastated by an unexpected death of their son. Her name is Alysia Smith, a funeral director at Schaefer. Alysia's compassion and understanding was amazing. She did everything that she could and other things that she didn't have to do, such as coming in on her day off to help us, giving us her personal cell number, taking our calls and accommodating our requests, never saying no. Within minutes of our first phone call we felt that she was one of us and wanted to make this extraordinary difficult time for us as easy as possible. We have not dealt with other directors and hope not to do so anytime soon. But Alysia Smith has set the bar so high that I don't know if other directors can measure up to it. She erased the line that says you are the customer and I am the business. She became one of us on the same side of the line. If you are reading this it's because you have lost a loved one. First, I want to recommend and commend the funeral directors and staff of the Daniel J Schaefer Funeral Home. When my cousin passed in Brooklyn, and he was more like a brother than a cousin, I was faced with the daunting task of making funeral arrangements from Honolulu, Hawaii, where I live now, unable to travel in the middle of this Covid pandemic. My sisters on the mainland helped by looking at the long list of funeral homes available through the medical examiner's office. One sister recommended Daniel J Schaefer as a possibility and the other looked at their website and said, "That's it. No need to look further." Still, I called with a little trepidation. Next, I was impressed by compassion, friendliness and professional efficiency. A difficult task became far more pleasant. We recently lost or mother January 6, 2015. We knew this day was coming so we had time to research and check out a few places. We were immediately impressed with the Daniel Schaeffer funeral home. We were able to make all the arrangements in advance which gave us some peace of mind. We worked with Joe who took care of our mom just like she was their own family member. When the services began, they left the family to have all the time needed to say our goodbyes. They ran the entire process in a very professional manner and gave us the feeling that mom was in good hands and would be well taken care of.
