It was Moms request that she be covered in a blanket. Before she was taken to the cemetery I took the blanket and placed it over her top half. As I tried to open the bottom of the casket I was stopped by one of the parties who work there. I insisted on opening the bottom half in honor of my mother's request. He continued to dissuade me. I was insistent and he relented. When the bottom of the casket was opened I was horrified to see my Mother's stockings pulled only half way to her calf. I was completely overwhelmed and distraught by the treatment Marine Park Funeral Home displayed toward my Mother. I believe it was because our funds were limited. I left shaking but said nothing rather than cause a scene. Never ever would I use Marine Park Funeral Home.

Ms. Sherman conveyed sincere warmth and care as I asked questions to understand the process and all the options to consider when burying a loved one. I didn't feel rushed and she patiently explained all the options available. I was also learning what a Funeral Director does before, during and after the burial process. They're a key person not only for planning the funeral service or cremation, but also for dealing with other institutions and government agencies. Ms. Sherman blew me away when she showed the extra care she puts into dressing the deceased and staging the service to give them a proper sendoff. She was also attentive to our family's needs regarding who was best to conduct the service and all the details for the service and the paperwork needed after the service. Her network of service providers was priceless for us. She always responded promptly or delegated the response if busy helping another client so I appreciated that. After my mother's funeral service, Ms. Sherman was kind enough to hold my hand through the final goodbye before my mother's body went off to the crematorium. I really appreciated her prayers and gentle care in getting me through that day. Ms. Sherman still responded promptly several months later when I needed other city paperwork for my mother's cremains to travel. What I love about her is that she is the consummate professional from A-Z in all her communications. Her colleagues were also quite supportive and helpful. She inform the family how long the process takes. My neice picked out a Headstone. Once the Headstone was placed at the burial site Julie took a picture and sent the family a picture of the final product. "It so beautiful". We were all extremely happy. In June 2025, we made contact with Julie to informed her our Ma had passed, we needed to add her name to the Headstone. She made the process effortlessly again. An appointment was made, she inform us of the time frame process it will take. Then when everything is completed Julie goes out to the cemetery to take a photo picture of the completed work. I tipped the limo driver in advance as per her instructions and give her the money but he ended up asking for an additional tip in front of your family. She didn't offer the additional money back. Of course the driver denied it. The worst was desecrating my father's body. She used a person unfamiliar with working with clients of color. She tried to light me into thinking it was the church lighting. Black people know what we look like in church with makeup! We ended closing the coffin early because he looks so unrecognizable. She's used person of European descent who was older, he did not provide a haircut and gave his mustache a 70s cowboy look even though we provided a picture. Sylvia had a picture of my dad post cosmetics to "prove" the quality. I of course declined. Who wants to see their father with skin glue on his lips and eyelids. Blotchy make up. No caps underneath the eyelids so he appeared to be squinting. It was a horrible experience. She states the funeral home works with a Haitian community, but that was obviously wrong . As a healthcare provider I am aware that the deceased don't resemble themselves but family and friends didn't know who that was lying in state. This is not my first funeral but this was by far the worst. She will make all sorts of excuses and offer no apology. The experience made me lean towards cremation, no viewing,no funeral home for my own final affairs.
