I see a couple of negative reviews on here saying that the staff wasn't professional or no one picked up the phone, other nonsense and I have to say this was NOT my experience at all and we've been going to the funeral home for years with the same funeral director (Tom Roemmelt). The staff is extremely accommodating. For our most recent funeral, our beloved Auntie Ro loved playing the lottery. And we mentioned we wanted to have some sort of floral arrangement that would somehow honor that. Tom says "let me see what I can do." He calls up the florist, explains to them the situation, and a few seconds later he hangs up and looks at me and my wife and says "It's done." And sure enough, the arrangement came out BEAUTIFULLY, and everyone who came to the service loved it. And it provided quite a few smiles on such a dark and sad day. Also our beloved Auntie Ro was 95, and Janitza Soto made her look absolutely wonderful. They dyed her hair *exactly* the way she liked it and did her makeup flawlessly. Rose would have loved it. They took every single instruction and request we gave them and executed it perfectly right down to the pink rosary we gave them to have Auntie Ro was holding in her hands. They never once rushed us. Or pressured us. And they were always at all times professional, courteous and respectful. Tom even gave me his personal cell number to contact him directly no matter what time of day or night. To which, last minute things came up and I had to text him at midnight at he responded IMMEDIATELY. Cannot say enough nice things about this funeral home and staff. Highly recommend working with them. AAAAAAAA+++++++

It's well organized; separated into sections, which makes it fairly easy to locate your loved one. There are areas where your loved one can be placed into a wall as opposed to the ground. They barely covered the container let alone the casket. I tipped the limo driver in advance as per her instructions and give her the money but he ended up asking for an additional tip in front of your family. She didn't offer the additional money back. Of course the driver denied it. The worst was desecrating my father's body. She used a person unfamiliar with working with clients of color. She tried to light me into thinking it was the church lighting. Black people know what we look like in church with makeup! We ended closing the coffin early because he looks so unrecognizable. She's used person of European descent who was older, he did not provide a haircut and gave his mustache a 70s cowboy look even though we provided a picture. Sylvia had a picture of my dad post cosmetics to "prove" the quality. I of course declined. Who wants to see their father with skin glue on his lips and eyelids. Blotchy make up. No caps underneath the eyelids so he appeared to be squinting. It was a horrible experience. She states the funeral home works with a Haitian community, but that was obviously wrong . As a healthcare provider I am aware that the deceased don't resemble themselves but family and friends didn't know who that was lying in state. This is not my first funeral but this was by far the worst. She will make all sorts of excuses and offer no apology. The experience made me lean towards cremation, no viewing,no funeral home for my own final affairs.

What started as an awkward query on the price of a funeral for my mom who just passed the evening…read morebefore, turned into an experience I never imagined would be so seamless to get through. I never wanted a viewing because you want to remember your loved ones as they were, but once I saw mom after her passing, I had to allow others to see her one last time. Ralph Cerasuolo, funeral director, invited us into their office and sat us down and asked what was it that we were looking to do. From there, the conversation slowly evolved from pricing a funeral to hobbies and travel and Italy. Ralph made it easy to do what I needed to get done for Mami. While Ralph complied a price list, he let us browse through a prayer book catalog and I was so happy to find Mami's favorite patron saint as one of the selections. It's not a common saint to find and I found Him here at Riverdale Funeral Home. Preparing for this day, a few months ago, I started a photo slideshow project of Mami's life and I wanted to bring a projector with my iPad to the viewing. I was so happy to learn that it wouldn't be needed as Riverdale Funeral Home provides a large flatscreen TV with plenty of HDMI plugs for use with devices to display photos and memories. I was also contemplating in bringing bottled water for visitors but had no time to get a case. No worries again. When I arrived for Mami's viewing, there were plenty of carafes of water throughout the room alongside cone paper cups. Another stress reliever that they supplied these simple amenities. On the day of her viewing, Mami looked absolutely beautiful. One of my worst fears all my life was to see her on a day like this and have that last memory of her not looking like herself but she looked like she was sleeping, completely rested. She had her costume jewelry on, just as she did in life and looked like she was just waiting to head to one of her parties. My heart was filled with so much happiness. I cannot thank Ralph enough for his knowledge and in being the one to assist us with Mami's arrangements. James Winkle, their office manager supervised Mami's visit and he is a dear to engage with as well. The funeral home itself has a very cozy feel with warmth when you walk in. One truly feels they are with family through the process. Riverdale Funeral Home made this sad loss of ours a beautiful memory we will always remember. Thank you for this. One of my dear friends recommended Funeral Director, Jacqueline Sherman, who she worked with on multiple burials of her family members. Great referrals are priceless when you are going through emotional trauma and shock so you don't have to be shopping around with strangers while grieving. I didn't feel comfortable with the list the hospital gave me after I identified her body. I didn't even know how to shop for funeral services and what to look for so I was in for a crash course. I got a ton of advice from friends and relatives, and had to make decisions quickly to notify the hospital. I had several referrals to funeral homes but realized I hit the jackpot on meeting an outstanding professional and funeral director in Jacqueline Sherman. My friend went with me to meet with Ms. Sherman in her office and after that meeting there was no need to look further. As a business person I can spot a rockstar in her profession from a mile away. Ms. Sherman conveyed sincere warmth and care as I asked questions to understand the process and all the options to consider when burying a loved one. I didn't feel rushed and she patiently explained all the options available. I was also learning what a Funeral Director does before, during and after the burial process. They're a key person not only for planning the funeral service or cremation, but also for dealing with other institutions and government agencies. Ms. Sherman blew me away when she showed the extra care she puts into dressing the deceased and staging the service to give them a proper sendoff. She was also attentive to our family's needs regarding who was best to conduct the service and all the details for the service and the paperwork needed after the service. Her network of service providers was priceless for us. She always responded promptly or delegated the response if busy helping another client so I appreciated that. After my mother's funeral service, Ms. Sherman was kind enough to hold my hand through the final goodbye before my mother's body went off to the crematorium. I really appreciated her prayers and gentle care in getting me through that day. Ms. Sherman still responded promptly several months later when I needed other city paperwork for my mother's cremains to travel. What I love about her is that she is the consummate professional from A-Z in all her communications. Her colleagues were also quite supportive and helpful. Now that I know what a funeral director actually does, I highly recommend using the services of Jacqueline Sherman at Frank R. Bell Funeral Home. She is worth waiting for when you see how she presents the process and the services she and her colleagues can offer to meet your needs. Most importantly, when you see her creative skills as a funeral director who is a master at her craft, with many years of experience, you won't want to look any further! I had to wait several months to write this review and for things to settle down after my mother's passing. As a discerning business person, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you use the services of Jacqueline Sherman if you are looking for a Funeral Director in the New York Tri-state area. Don't hesitate to do that first intake meeting with her. You'll be glad you did!
