I didn't feel comfortable with the list the hospital gave me after I identified her body. I didn't even know how to shop for funeral services and what to look for so I was in for a crash course. I got a ton of advice from friends and relatives, and had to make decisions quickly to notify the hospital. I had several referrals to funeral homes but realized I hit the jackpot on meeting an outstanding professional and funeral director in Jacqueline Sherman. My friend went with me to meet with Ms. Sherman in her office and after that meeting there was no need to look further. As a business person I can spot a rockstar in her profession from a mile away. Ms. Sherman conveyed sincere warmth and care as I asked questions to understand the process and all the options to consider when burying a loved one. I didn't feel rushed and she patiently explained all the options available. I was also learning what a Funeral Director does before, during and after the burial process. They're a key person not only for planning the funeral service or cremation, but also for dealing with other institutions and government agencies. Ms. Sherman blew me away when she showed the extra care she puts into dressing the deceased and staging the service to give them a proper sendoff. She was also attentive to our family's needs regarding who was best to conduct the service and all the details for the service and the paperwork needed after the service. After my mother's funeral service, Ms. Sherman was kind enough to hold my hand through the final goodbye before my mother's body went off to the crematorium. I really appreciated her prayers and gentle care in getting me through that day. Ms. Sherman still responded promptly several months later when I needed other city paperwork for my mother's cremains to travel. What I love about her is that she is the consummate professional from A-Z in all her communications. Her colleagues were also quite supportive and helpful. Tara guided us through the entire process and explained each aspect of the funeral and viewing. Additionally, we were undecided about a few things but Tara gave us the space and time to finalize those decisions. She gave us her honest opinion and helped us make smart decisions about logistics. Tara held our hand throughout and didn't make this feel like a business transaction. Due to COVID-19, there were many restrictions at burial grounds within the city. I am extremely appreciative of how hard the team worked to find options for us that gave us the appropriate closure. I was able to sleep at night because I trusted the family with my loved one. They treated him with respect and care. We were especially touched when we left the funeral home and drove by our home for one last goodbye to the home. The funeral director, Brenden, stepped out of the car and placed a rose on our front step. He supported the entire family during the services and ensured everything ran on time. As a Guyanese Hindu family, we felt that the Hillebrand staff and family honored our traditions and helped us do everything that was necessary for my loved one's last rites. The facility was very clean and comfortable. It is beautifully designed. It didn't feel dark or gloomy. Additionally the parking lot was spacious enough to fit all of the guests. Even after the services I was amazed at how flexible the staff was when I needed to finalize details. My family and I left behind pictures and a few items from the memorial. The place was very clean and they did a great job making g our loved one look great and paid attention to what they looked like in life. Pallbearers were well dressed and very professional. All funeral services are going to be expensive but I felt it was a good value and gave us the closure we needed.
