Despite their average standing, I'm going to bring Scanlon's Cleaners to the front of the class. After inquiring about dry cleaning my 8, 96" L Pottery Barn linen curtain panels at a dry cleaners elsewhere in Kingston, NY, I quickly made a U-turn for better pricing. Now granted, that dry cleaners is eco-friendly and what they were charging was $40 a panel. $320 in the end? For curtains? No. While Scanlon's on Ulster Ave in Kingston, NY isn't organic, they came in at $15 a panel. Done deal. Scanlon's is what you would want from a cleaners: tidy, offers same day dry cleaning, ironing+laundry services and has a detail website highlighting other services such a leather and Ugg cleaning, wedding dress services, etc. Do ask about repair+mending services- if any. Hubs chose his shirts to be hung instead of boxed when he dropped off them off. Unlike other cleaners where you pay when you pick up your clothes, here, you have to pay(?) upfront when you drop off your clothes. Regardless, Chris and his team actually gave my linen curtains the care they deserve and hubs' shirts had a nice crisp to them. The turnaround time was great between dropping my curtains off and picking them up. Hassle-free, prompt and great pricing. read more

I needed to have a couple of things cleaned and pressed for a trip. Unfortunately, I waited until the last minute. They said they could give me 24 hour service, but it would be an upcharge for it. I said fine, it needed to be done. Even with the upcharge, the price for the two items was very reasonable. Everybody was friendly. They said they would text me when my clothes were ready. I never got a text. I got other texts from them, asking me to rate their service. But as to my clothes being ready, it never happened. I just swung by when I was in the neighborhood, and by then they were ready. Other than that, good service. Thank you. read more

Terrible dry cleaners with unprofessional, untrained and grubby staff. Machinery breaks down frequently, and they don't know how to press clothes. NOT AT ALL. My blind 96 year old grandma can press a shirt better and without equipment. Look, it's Kingston. There's very few people who need properly dry cleaned clothing. So perhaps the standards are just terribly low. Still, they broke a zipper, can't press clothes, couldn't finish my order in time, and still cost a pretty penny. The owner must be a joke--and I stand by that statement until new information presents itself. He's not active in the community and doesn't respond to customer complaints. I call them Scamlons. They are absolutely the worst dry cleaners I've experienced in 15 states. If you value your clothes, take them elsewhere. read more

Hit and miss. Mostly adequate but on more than one occasion I've retrieved garments that were badly misshapen because whoever pressed them was clueless or didn't give a sh*t. I've used this service for years n years n it's never changed. They opened another branch uptown, I believe, but the original site on Albany Ave looks the same as it has since the beginning. Extremely high priced and sub par quality. Not what one would or should expect for the outrageously high prices charged. Service is okay but nothing overly special about it. What they have going for themselves is that they have a monopoly and control a large swath of the market area so there is little choice for competition and other facilities utilize them for their processing therefore it's difficult to obtain service without having to pay their excessively high prices. I brought my daughter's silk dress to Scanlon's loaded with water spots, a wine stain and more. They dry cleaned it then wet cleaned it then spot cleaned it. It is now wearable again. My first and last time using this dry cleaner. I brought two suits in for dry cleaning, they were in perfect condition when I brought them in. I picked them up in the evening the following week. The following day I was taking them out of the plastic to put them back in the closet when I noticed a hole. I inspected both suits and found 12 holes in one jacket, two holes in the other jacket, and two holes in one pair of pants. I'm positive these were not there when I dropped them off. I brought the suits back in to have them inspected. They kept them for a couple of days and then I was contacted by a manager, Casey, who informed me that they were moth holes. The two suits are stored in different locations of our home. I've inspected both closets thoroughly and have found no evidence of mods. My wool jacket that was next to one of the suits has no moth damage. I am positive that this damage did not occur in my home and that the holes were not there when I brought the suits in, but they took zero responsibility. read more

This is based solely on getting a rug cleaned, which they say is one of their specialties. The information on the website was consistent with what I experienced - 10 days and $2 a square foot. I had purchased a 5x7 area rug from Goodwill and it was covered in white pet hair - besides that, I was hesitant to bring a rug in my home with my dogs before having it cleaned. I didn't want to bring fleas in! So it did take 10 days, and I never got a phone call (which I discovered when I picked it up was because they had my phone number wrong) - when I got there they brought it out and the man explained that they vacuumed it a BUNCH of times and there was still some hair on it, and offered to vacuum it again. At this point I'm a little worried, but I paid and left. Got it home, unrolled it, and while there was a LITTLE hair still on it, it wasn't that bad. I did find a big nail (hardware, not finger - or oh god, toe) in the rug. I would for sure take rugs here for cleaning. The end. read more

I wish I could say that American Cleaners and the cleaning businesses affiliated with them were operating at the highest level. After doing business with the store in Kingston for years, I regrettably made the decision to bring my dry cleaning elsewhere as there were just too many errors in their serviice delivery; shirts to be folded came back on hangers, jeans that were to have a crease did not. In spite of Clay's extremely professional attitude and many too many times of these kinds of mistakes happening, I stopped doing business there. After several months, I decided to bring shirts to be laundered and folded to another of their stores, the Governor Clinton Cleansers in West Hurley. Alexis, the store person was polite and friendly. When I brought my boxed shirts home today, I discovered that not only were the shirts shoddily folded, but there were no cardboard inserts included as had always been the case. As a frequent traveller, keeping my shirts pressed and boxed is an important consideration for me. Unfortunately, the lack of follow-through from today's transaction confirmed my decision where not to bring my dry cleaning. Instead of even apologizing for the mishap, the person that answered the phone was defensive, and unwilling to correct the situation. The only thing he offered was to have cardboard inserts delivered to the store, requiring me to drive half an hour to pick them up. Service is all about making and keeping your customers happy. This is the dry cleaner I use in Kingston. Turnaround time is excellent and they usually do a great job with cleaning. The prices are fair and they sometimes have specials so that is good as dry cleaning can get to be quite expensive. I always get my coats cleaned after winter and that can add up as I have a lot of coats. read more

With a hectic work week done and an even crazier traveling weekend approaching, I knew I would have barely any time to stop and pick up the dress and suits my boys and I needed for the trip.
