It always amazes me when people complain about the price of tailoring versus the price paid for the clothing item itself. The price of the work is still the price of the work! Expecting a professional seamstress to overhaul or even alter cheap, disposable sweatshop clothes for a lesser price is absurd. Do you think you are entitled to some kind of "I support sweatshops" discount? That said, I was delighted to find Kathy about 10 years ago. Since then, she has altered numerous irreplaceable vintage items for me, and I have never been disappointed with her work or had something go awry. However, I also respect her busy seasons and workload and do not make unreasonable demands. She is a seasoned pro and a rock in this community that is now dominated by fly-by-night uncommitted businesses. Treat her like the gem that she is! read more

What a lifesaver, we were in town for a wedding on June 15 and the NYC Tux shop did a lousy job with fittings that were mailed in to them from out of town ushers. We went here the day before wedding and the seamstress was wonderful - she even pointed us to Frank Guido's Little Italy for dinner. A lucky find ! She did a beautiful job fixing things up for us. read more

I dropped off my dress that needed the shoulder straps to be shortened, and the hem to be shortened about five-six inches. Almost a month went by, and I didn't hear from them. I called and left a message. Apparently, they don't call you (their explanation, not mine), and they write down a date on the receipt for your to pick up your item, which they did not do for me. I was able to show them that I had no pick up date. They took $10 off the alteration price ($80 before the discount. FYI, that's more than the dress cost). The hem was taken up about two inches. I was told they took it up to where it had been pinned. So, not only is my dress still too long, but because I had no pick up date, it's also too late for me to get a new dress. No apology, and no explanation as to why the alterations hadn't been done correctly. For the amount I paid, I could have gotten another dress. read more

Kathy is a real pro. She altered a beautiful wedding gown for me that looked sensational when done. With her trained eye on fashion, she also makes suggestions if needed. A couple of years ago my wife bought a really nice leather jacket for me as a Christmas gift. A year later, while she was out of town, it accidentally got caught on something which resulted in a rather large tear in the front near the pocket. So I took it to Kingston Alterations and even though it looked like there were quite a few jobs ahead of mine (or maybe just a bunch of completed ones waiting to be picked up) I was thrilled to get a call a few days later that my jacket was repaired! It looks perfect . . . you'd need a microscope to see where it had been damaged . . . all for a very reasonable cost. (The wife will never know!) I will bring any future clothing repairs to them, for sure. read more
