Great teachers! I can't say enough about the quality of the teachers: they're very experienced, warm, friendly and very organized. The kids are taught about respect and discipline in a way that's all positive and fun. Amazing. You can tell the kids love it, a lot have been coming for years. I visited several Martial Arts studios in the Pasadena area before visiting Kenpofit and meeting Jon Boone. Jon is by far leaps and bounds above the rest. . He has a natural ability to teach children but he doesn't baby them. Not only is my son excited about going to class and learning, but he also has so much fun. Jon spends time explaining to the kids what they are learning and why they are learning it. He also conveys to them how it relates to other aspects of their lives other than just self defense. My son has been a student of Master John for almost six years, starting when he was just 5 years-old. It has been and continues to be one of the best life experiences for my son, both physically and mentally. The goal at the dojo clearly focuses more on bettering one's personal self rather than being able to "kick butt and take names" on command. This really has given my son a much-needed boost in his confidence as well as skills needed to defend himself. Fitness is definitely a big part of the program, but John and his fellow instructors, Marco, Dakota, and Linda, always make it fun for the kids, and it's become an overall positive anchor for my son. They are all excellent with the kids and it clearly shows on the kids faces. Are they learning striking, blocking and takedowns? Do they spar? Yes. Of course. However, the fact that so much emphasis is put on positivity and just being "good people" makes me as a parent feel like my kid is getting a really great life experience at this school. I've been going to JitsuFit for about two years already, and I can say that it's been the most influential two years of my life. First off, Professor Jon is one of the most genuine and caring people you could ask for as a teacher in Jiu Jitsu and, appropriately, life lessons. He always puts his all in caring for his students and keeping the atmosphere upbeat, fun, and engaging -- which is something that I personally find to be one of the most crucial aspects of being a mentor. Secondly, JitsuFit was recently renovated to almost double the size and I was more than impressed. The place is always clean, something that is often overlooked by other studios. Parking also has never been a hassle at all since there's a spacious lot right behind the studio. Last off, all my peers at Jiu Jitsu, from people with 10+ years of experience to people who just started, are my family. All of the teachers are great with kids (especially Karate Masters Marco and Jon). There are fun, age appropriate activities in the lil ninja program (e.g. ninja dodge ball, obstacle courses, light sabers, sumo wrestling, ninja island, and on and on!). It is bi-weekly and my child's physical fitness, coordination, self confidence, and discipline has improved so much. I am also really impressed with the karate moves they learn and the real world skills that the instructors teach alongside. The first time I saw my five year old spar I was apprehensive that it would lead to excessive aggression but he recognizes that these are moves for the karate mats or for self defense. The instructors often remind the kids that if a bully is bothering you, your first response should be "hey, cut it out. I don't want to fight you." And to look for a grown up. This is definitely not the bad dojo in the Karate Kid movie! The new studio is large, bright, and welcoming. Overall, this is a great place for your little one, you won't be disappointed. read more
