Master Paul prioritizes teaching students discipline, loyalty, integrity, bravery, self-control, confidence, modesty, respect, and service. Throughout class, he consistently integrates these values into his lessons in all sorts of ways. For example, when it comes to discipline, he will work with a student until they correct a mistake that they consistently make, even if it means giving feedback throughout multiple classes. Master Paul will even include respect towards peers with simple things such as having students give each other high fives, fist bumps, or shaking hands before a sparring match. He also incorporates bravery, self-control, and safety at the same time. Many students can be scared to start sparring, so Master Paul will start them off with getting used to the gear and moving around with an instructor. And when sparring against a classmate, the environment is always supervised to make sure nobody gets injured. Self-control comes into play here as students are constantly taught that they are not allowed to utilize all their body-strength, as sparring is about practicing with a moving target allowing for both offense and defense. Each match is supervised and instructors and Master Paul will intervene if necessary. Furthermore, Master Paul knows each students' strengths and weaknesses and will include that in his feedback allowing for a student to know what specifically they need to work on (whether those are techniques or values). And he will work with a students' strength, knowing exactly how to push students to meet their potential without making it overbearing or bringing a students' confidence down and instead pushing it up. With how much he consistently works with students in this way, students are able to incorporate all these values in their daily life in a way that is like second-nature. This includes working hard and honestly in school, showing respect towards others around them, and as Master Paul says being able to have the confidence to not get into a fight. Even after your student is finished with Taekwondo and has achieved whatever their goal is, these values that they have learned have become habits that they will continue to use in the real world.

I paid close attention to the instruction, technique, discipline, and how the children responded to the masters. At some studios, I was surprised to see very young children wearing black belts that didn't seem earned. My 6-year-old son has been attending ETC for nearly a year, and the difference is evident. Master Paul and Master Jue are deeply committed to teaching proper technique, discipline, and character. They hold students to high standards while still encouraging them, and it shows in the way the children carry themselves. I believe in gentle parenting, but I also believe children need structure and accountability. ETC reinforces those values. My son has great respect for Master Paul, and we've seen significant improvement in his behavior both in and out of class. If you're looking for a Taekwondo studio that focuses on real skill development, discipline, and building respectful young leaders, I highly recommend ETC.

She was nervous at first, but to our surprise, she absolutely loved her initial sessions. Master Nagayama and his team of black belt instructors strike a perfect balance between being firm and constructive, making the classes both engaging and encouraging. My daughter never felt intimidated, which was a huge relief as a parent. The facility itself is spacious, with plenty of seating for parents to comfortably watch their kids. The overall ambiance is welcoming and supportive, creating a great environment for young learners. Highly recommend if you're considering martial arts for your child! We really enjoy the life lessons that this studio has brought in to my son's life. We also enjoy that this studio doesn't give belts away but makes the students truly earn them. Worthy accomplishments are often earned through hard work and practice.

I worried about creating a little karate brat, all moves and no respect. Sensei Lucian put those worries to rest. He knows his stuff, but what I really appreciate is how he gets through to kids. He makes it fun, meets them at their level, and still makes sure there's respect for the dojo, the teachers, and the other students. That's a lot to balance with a room full of little kids, and he makes it work. They're not becoming the next Bruce Lee overnight, but at that early age they're learning how their bodies work, building muscle memory, and learning to work with each other. They're having fun, and the lessons are sinking in. I also appreciate how closely they watch the little things, like how the kids hold a pad and how they handle themselves when sparring with another student. They're getting used to physical contact, but nobody's encouraging them to go all-out on each other. They're learning to use control and look out for the person they're practicing with. With kids this young, that matters a lot to me. Early on, my daughter was a little too comfortable goofing off during her private lessons. I suggested having her give up her belt for the day, and Sensei Lucian handled it with care. He was firm, and she understood. It wasn't just Dad telling her to settle down anymore. Being a student meant something, and she had a responsibility to her teacher, her classmates, and herself. That's why this school means so much to me. He can have fun with the kids and still be someone they take seriously. As a parent, that earns my trust. I wish we'd had a school like this when I was growing up. I probably would have gotten into martial arts earlier and stuck around longer. I'm really glad my kid gets to grow up with this.

And I was immediately drawn to the Aikido Cultural Institute not only because all of the senior staff are female, but because they allow you to wear the Hakama after receiving your 5th kyu certification rather than having to wait until you become a Black Belt. Just as in Kendo or Iaido, it is considered part of the uniform. I hope to call this dojo home for a long time.

Its profound philosophy of non-violence, of respect for life, of self-control and self-discipline, makes aikido one of the most perfect systems of self-defense." So when my son turned 7 (minimum age to join), he started taking lessons at the Aikido Cultural Institute. It could not have been a more enriching experience. My son attends several times a week and loves it. It is the highlight of his week. He has learned so much from Rhonda Sensei, Terri Sensei, Sara Sensei, and Pablo Sensei, all very nurturing and gentle teachers with strong spirits and kind hearts. Direct from my son: "I like that they're nice and that they teach good stuff, like if someone tries to attack you, you can defend yourself and not hurt the other person, and get past them. They're also nice - if you do a move wrong, they'll correct you without saying that you have to do it right next time." My son is a very active boy, and taking aikido lessons here has played a big role in helping him to appreciate non-violence, enhance respect for life, and exercise self-control and self-discipline. He has definitely learned to be more focused and confident. Thank you so much for offering such a nurturing and character-building experience for children! I highly recommend checking out this dojo!

My 13 year old daughter is testing for her Black Belt, which is an extraordinary accomplishment for her especially given that after only a four months at Inspire she was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, an autoimmune disease that requires near constant monitoring. My daughter has learned how to advocate for herself, communicate her needs, and most importantly she feels incredibly SAFE with her instructors and fellow students. We have watched her push through struggles with perfectionism and anxiety, embrace leadership roles, and gain confidence.
