The service was very good and our server was very friendly. You can tell that this restaurant is more contemporary because as someone else mentioned the inside is modern and sparse with only one picture for decoration. The music is at a good volume level. You do not get chips and salsa when you first walk in. In fact, if you want chips and salsa, you have to pay $3 for them. The tortilla chips seem homemade, but they are not salted. The salsa is very different than what you get at a typical Mexican restaurant. It's almost more of a vinegar base. It's got a little spice to it, but we really enjoyed it! My husband got the Sazzon Bowl. It was not at all what we expected. It was more of a salad with rice and meat in it. I got the shredded chicken tostadas. Our personal opinion is that the food did not have much flavor. In fact, the vegetables on the tostadas tasted watery like they've been soaking in water to keep them fresh, but the problem with that is that then they just taste watery and make the tortilla kind of soggy underneath. I mean, the food was not bad, but it just didnt have any flavor. We paid $40 for the meals and an iced tea..... I'm glad we tried this place but I do not think that we would come back.
The tables are covered in tile flooring. Strange, but they were clean. The dining area was narrow. Guests kept bumping into each other as they walked past tables. I ordered the tacos Al pastor. Decent flavor. It came with 3 tacos, and a small bowl of refried beans. The tortillas were blue, and I thought it was blue corn, but it's not. They are using food dye in the tortillas. My daughter ordered the BC Shrimp taco (NOTE: ONE TACO), my husband ordered the huarache (AGAIN: ONE HUARACHE), but it did come with a side of refried beans also and my son ordered the mulita (ONE. ITEM.). The refried beans were cold. My daughter ordered a bowl. All I can say is, the flavor of the food was good, but we all left there feeling robbed. The sodas were $2.50 each and they are served in a CAN. The taco, huarache and bowl, were all singular items and ranged from $9.00 - $16. The mulita was $10. It just didn't feel right to pay $16 for a single item and still leave hungry. Not worth it. We should've just gone home to cook.
In my opinion, this place is too expensive for what you get. My husband and I spent $40 for takeout for shrimp tacos and a chicken tinga huaraches. The portion size was small, but the food was good. the huaraches especially was very fresh. Personally, the restaurant and food options made it seem like food should be worth $10-$12 per dish, not $18-$20.
Fantastic. Wonderful authentic food prepared with both care and efficiency. Friendly staff and clean environment. We came in on Sunday. I had the chilaquiles which aren't offered the rest of the week. They were sublime, if just a little too salty. My kids had a Sazzon bowl and the sips. Both were happy with their meals. Alpine doesn't exactly have a wealth of food options, so check this place out!
Wow what a delightful little establishment!! The food was colorful and bursting with tantalizing flavors!! It took a little long to make but everything was fresh and made to order and for me it was 100% worth the wait!! We devoured the chips and homemade salsa...man it was so good, I wish we lived nearby or I would totally take some to go!! The restaurant itself is clean and very casual. It wasn't busy, but we were greeted with a friendly smile and seated immediately. We travel through here about once or twice a year...this place has been added to one of our favorites places to stop!!! Boo kept raving how talented the chef was for making such amazing food! Be sure to stop in and have have a taste!! It will definitely entertain your tastebuds!!
Simple Mexican food in Alpine. We stopped by en route to Terlingua for an early dinner. Just a few patrons inside but our host / server J was very warm and welcoming. He made nice suggestion for our meal, and was quick to bring the food. We started with the stuff jalapeño peppers that came with different cheeses and some other stuff. About four these sliced in half. Pretty good. The chips and salsa are complimentary and we devoured the whole basket. Salsa was a little runny but the flavor was great. I opted for the carnitas tacos (3). Very yummy, came drenched in guacamole and other sauces. Overall this place was pretty good. Visitors keep in mind you're in remote west Texas so don't come with outrageous / city expectations.
The cafe is very simple but very nicely done, contemporary casual decor. The food blew me away with flavors. We had the salsa sampler...instead of typical texmex pickled jalapeños, the presented a roasted corn, avocado/tomatillo, and an anchor chili flight with home prepped chips. Husband's fish tacos were Melt in your mouth good. I had a huarache that was rich in flavor. Iced cold beer to top it all off. We were just passing through Alpine, TX but if I lived there, this would be a weekly spot for me.
Was driving thru town and the reviews looked good. Was in the mood for tacos. Assumed I would get some kind of street taco. Turns out the couple that owns this place is from Baja California. The fish tacos blew me away. Don't let the unassuming exterior fool you.. The food is very authentic...
The food was delicious. The waitress was quick, pleasant and eager to serve us well. I got the tostados that had a nice kick- chicken was my meat of choice. My husband got the carnitas tacos, which he said were slightly dry, but tasty. We definitely had to add salt, but I much prefer that to having over salted food which seems the norm. The guacamole was good - as was the salsa, but could had smaller onion chunks. ;-) The only down side was $3 for chips and salsa. That was a little shocking to us, but worth it- homemade chips, fresh, in house salsa. The atmosphere is clean and sparse... but clean! Easy to get to , and a million times better than the other options in Alpine that we've tried over the years and visits. Music was tasteful and not too loud, booth was clean and comfy! There were radishes on the guac and the Chicken tostados. I removed the radish to eat them. The dish actually was quite crispy... the juice left some puddles in the plate, but I propped them up on my knife to keep them out of the liquid, and they all three stayed crispy until the last delicious bite.

Great restaurant w very friendly service. The fish tacos were a big hit- healthy portion size and very fresh. The carnitas tacos and nachos were also good. The corn elote was delicious and you will be licking your fingers clean. What a wonderful find in the small town. A must stop for Big Bend NP trips. My family and I decided to dine here because Spicwood was closed due to no water. I was hesitant due to how the food always comes out. You never get your food in order because they have no proper heating source to keep the food warm, so expect you and your guest to eat at different times or eat cold dishes together . And as I expected it happened again and the waitress forgot one of my dishes as I asked her about it she said I didn't order it and told me I was wrong but my wife and daughter both told her that I did and she rolled her eyes and said I will go put it in. The Chef came out looking like he was naked ( waist down) with my missing dish as I explained to him that they needed heat lamps so food could come out properly he gave me a card and told me to email the owners about my complainant I also told him that the server basically tried to call me a liar to me and my family's face and at that point the waitress made her way to eavesdrop what I was saying about her and I said excuse me I'm talking to your boss and would appreciate you not eavesdropping and he said no she can listen to what we said and chime in, I said no its your job to talk to her on the side than they both got belligerent as I told them that and said just leave we are trying to eat. A couple walked in , and as they did I got a picture of the restaurant along with the chef breaking healthcodes cooking in daisy dukes. Almost immediately the waitress stormed to the table yelling I took a picture of her and was acting just ridiculous I told her I did not take a photo of her nor did I need any kind of photo of her and to leave us alone . As I finished my food we decided on no dessert and I went to pay and showed the guy that that person was not even the photo the guy told me that he called the cops I said that's fine and he proceeded to tell me I cannot talk to a minor like that and I said like what holding her and you accountable and he said Shes only 18 and I said sir she is not a minor and he well see when the cops get here to his restaurant and I said what restaurant you do not even have headlamps for food just a hole in the wall serving cold food like they were serving from a food truck . Any how the officer showed up and got my story the real story and let the other guy tell his fractured fairy tale. The cop told him he was wrong she was an adult and tried to say that I was aggressive but they were the ones standing around the table arguing. I even told the cop look he's not even a serious guy wearing shorts (daisy dukes) while cooking everyone's food breaking healthcodes and probably many more . He told the officer i was the combative person and I got my wife and she even told the officer that they were the people standing at our table arguing .I told the officer I had enough of this place and my kids were in the car and had better things to do. We shook hands ( the officer and I) that was that . My advice is to dine elsewhere for hot food with good service. That's unless you want cold food and poor service by a horrible server and helthcode violating grown half naked man in daisy dukes , there I've said my peice ( the truth). I've also included nice photos of the timeline of the food arriving ( my wife wanting with her food getting cold) Than me wanting for our daughter's food than finally all the food. And than Mr.Daisy oh on that note he did tell the officer her excuse was they were busy but they only had one table that did not have food ours every one else two tables had just about finished their food , just liars....( update I talked to some friends out here and it appears that this gentleman in the picture is the actual owner and his handing me a business card and telling me to send the owner an email on my experience was just him being a lowlife ) as I was told they were not welcome in a large store out here when I showed his wonderful picture. read more

The food was delicious. 5 stars all the way. My son is a picky eater; the chef came out to talk to us and helped us make a decision about what to order for him. We really appreciated that. We ordered fried shrimp tenders for him. He loved them. Everything was delicious and the service was great. We will definitely be back when in the area. read more

I am from small town in Tennessee where most of our Mexican food consists of cheap, fast, pseudo-Mexican dishes. I was in the Alpine area to visit Big Bend, and decided to stop at Sazzon on the way out of the park. This place legitimately has the best, freshest Mexican food I have ever had the pleasure of eating, and has far surpassed any I have ever had back home in Tennessee! The salsa was spot on, guacamole was unlike any I have ever had before, and the carne asada huaraches were spectacular! If you are in the Alpine area, you HAVE to stop here! read more

Wow! What a place. The chef here is better than awesome with his skill. The food was amazing. Fresh ingredients and great presentation. I tried the BC shrimp taco with a home made blue corn tortilla. It was served with a California pepper which was topped with crispy fried cheese. OMG was this delish. It was garnished with avocado, queso fresco, pickled red onion, radish, cilantro and a lime. Just perfect! This was a huge serving, but I have a great appetite and I tried the chile relleno taco. This too was delicious and also had great presentation. I was so hungry I forgot the pictures. I did try the agua Fresca and it was so flavorful without the over sweet taste of juice. So good. This place is a must try if you are in town. If I were from this area I would definitely eat here very often. read more

Alpine's best kept secret! We found this place through Yelp (the storefront doesn't currently have a sign, so we hadn't noticed it before - can be easy to miss if you don't know what you're looking for) and left extremely satisfied. I had seen another Yelp reviewer mention that this place had the best Mexican food he had ever gotten in the US; can confirm - EASILY the best Mexican food I've eaten this side of the border. Everything was so fresh and so tasty. The guacamole was incredible, followed by the yummiest chicken huaraches. If you're passing through Alpine on your way to Big Bend NP (or for any other reason), you HAVE to stop and eat here! read more

This is a great spot to stop in Alpine. The building was converted to a restaurant so you may not realize the restaurant is inside. The rice and beans are to die for and a must get while in town. The service was attentive and quick which made this an ideal stop on our way to Big Bend National Park. read more

My partner and I were a little hesitant about showing up 20-minutes before closing on a Sunday. Yet, we were greeted and seated with a smile by a very cordial young man. Started with chips, salsa, and guacamole. One bite of the guacamole and I knew we were in for a delicious culinary experience. We had the agua fresca made with cucumber, pineapple, and lime. A little on the chunky side but still refreshing. We ordered and shared a carne asada mulita (yum, yum, yum), the taco gobernador (incredible bursts of flavors balanced with a kick), chicken huaraches with refried beans (delicious), de la olla sopa (has shredded chicken, lovely bits of cilantro, tortilla strips), a side of flour tortillas, and a side of rice. We purposefully ordered more than we could eat so we could taste a variety of menu items. So glad we did! We brought back enough for dinner...AND we're headed back there tomorrow before flying back home to try their marlin and octopus tacos. Their dishes are made from scratch and it shows. We met the owners, Oliver and Adriana. Both were very gracious and their passion for this business comes through when you connect with them. A must visit when in Alpine or nearby! read more

Oh my freaking God! This place is AMAZING! We love eating out and we come from a big city (Dallas) and I have never been to a place like this. The food is sooo good, we tried a little bit of everything. I had the tacos dorados de papa my mouth is watering again. My husband got the sopes de picadillo, the kids got a burritos, quesadillas and quesadilla with carne asada. We also tried the fish and shrimp ceviche tostadas!!! OMG! The flavors are amazing, a little bit of everything (pineapple, cucumber, mango, jicama, carrots) DELICIOUS! If you are passing by this small town you MUST stop at Sazzon Baja Mex, I 100% recommend this place. They need to open a location in Dallas for sure! read more

You might think Ceviche in a small mountain town in the Chihuahuan desert is a questionable choice... But you're dead wrong! Bar none the best food in Alpine. The salsa and vegetables are always startlingly fresh and the Elote Asado is killer! The Nachos are huge and have a killer flavor mix topped with crisp radishes. The Taste the Pacific, Ceviche, and Aguachili are fantastic for those who dabble in citrus cooked seafood. If cooked is your speed the Fish (Mahi Mahi) or Shrimp Tacos can't be beat! read more

Absolutely loved this place! Was in town with my family and were looking for somewhere to eat around 3 PM after a hike. Everything in town was closed basically! We went to so many places only to find out they were closed, so I ended up calling Sazzon and they assured me they were open and we could dine in! Everyone is so friendly here and the food is SO fresh. I got the elote and ceviche, and I must add I'm a bit of a ceviche snob... and I approve! It was soooo good, sooo fresh, I highly recommend. My mom got the tostadas and my dad got the fish tacos, they were both extremely happy with their food. I will add that they are BYOB, so bring something if you're looking for a drank! read more
