Since I was visiting from up north, I had never heard of Slim Chickens, but that's how it was before the other chain made its way up to Illinois. That said, Slim Chickens, especially this location, is a close second for me. The service was excellent, with the manager making small talk in a natural way. I got the limited time Tender Bites and was amazed at the perfectly cooked tenders (see picture below) which were crisp on the outside and perfectly moist on the inside. The breading was a little salty for my taste, but the sauce and blue cheese helped to tap it down. The fries were spot on and the bread was also a good complement for the strong flavors in the breading. Lastly, the Oreo jar was a great way to finish the meal. I probably wouldn't get the 10 piece with the Oreo jar, next time... but for this trip it was worth it. Next time I'm in town, I am stopping by.

We ordered and found a nice table over near the bar. My husband then ordered a beer for himself and a cider for me. Our food didn't take long at all. Our appetizer cheesy rolls came out first. They were pretty good, dense, cakey, and sweet. Our entrees followed about five minutes later. I had the three piece chicken tenders. It was a LOT of food. The chicken was especially good. I don't get breaded fried chicken often, as it can upset my stomach, but I had no such issues here. The house sauce was delicious for dipping. The shoestring fries were great. I love coleslaw but there's underwhelmed me, as it was kind of bland. My husband had the larger tender meal along with their hot rub and hot oil. He said they weren't especially hot to him but they were delicious. Our son had two sides together, the macaroni and cheese and fries, and enjoyed them both. In all, a great place. Their chicken really is something special!

The flavor of the breading was fine. We liked it with the sauces. We tried the "sweet & spicy" & the "teriyaki.". The fries were mostly crispy and were topped with what tasted like seasoned salt.
