Sawa Sushi is a very affordable sushi restaurant located in a small strip mall. Upon entering, I noticed the interior was basic and contained a small sushi bar. Although the interior what you might expect from a sushi place located in a strip mall, Sawa Sushi brought some bling to their rolls. We ordered the following items: La Quinta Roll (salmon, yellowtail, deep fried crab), Tokyo Roll (deep fried crab, avocado, and spicy tuna on top), White Tiger Roll (spicy tuna, white tuna, and avocado), and a side of shrimp tempura. Each of the rolls were cut into about eight pieces, which was a good value. The presentation of the rolls was excellent; especially the La Quinta Roll where they included a flower and strategically placed sauce on the plate. Regarding the shrimp tempura, it was perfect. I have had my share of tempura over the years, and Sawa's battery was clean, not too thick, and the shrimp size was good. Regarding the service, it was basic but certainly no issues. A small group of apparent regulars entered while we were there, and the servers came alive. Sawa clearly delivered on both price and quality, and we will return. read more

I'll just say it like it is... 1) Food Quality: Good 2) Prices: A little high, but not terribly 3) Ambiance: Cheap interior, cost-cutting, but this may be efficient, so... 4) Staff: No smiles, no thank you's, no 'come again'.. the owner is absolutely non-emotional and doesn't smile at all, and she will not make any effort to be happy or kind to anybody. I am still surprised my family wants to go here due to the 'unfriendly' atmosphere, but the honest truth is the quality and taste of the food is good. As long as you can deal with their staff having or showing no emotion and not even saying 'thank you' or anything like it, you will be happy eating here. We now avoid eating there and just order take out. I just can't handle the 'sad' staff and their lack of providing a happy experience. Joe's Sushi is still the best place out here but it's away from our home - they're located on Country Club and Washington, on the SouthEast corner (where Carls Jr. is)... but again, Sawa is closer so that's usually where we order from. read more

Second time here and the Bento Box I got was very filling. I got the Salmon Teriyaki, 8 California Rolls, 8 Spicy Tuna Rolls, Salad, and Miso Soup. The food was excellent. I had to specifically ask for the lunch special menu. Not sure if that's common or not. Luckily, I had looked up the menu before coming here or I would have missed out on this special. Not worth the price, but decent place to go for sushi! We got the Love Boat for Two ($70) which included 10pcs sushi, 15pcs sashimi, and a spicy tuna roll and california roll. Some of the sashimi tasted high quality, but others didn't. On the brighter side, the sashimi pieces had a thick cut which was nice, and the salmon was really good. We also got a New Zealand Mussel ($7.99) which was really good with the melted sauce on top. I think it's worth checking out their lunch specials, but otherwise the quality of some of the fish doesn't justify the price. read more

This is great, fast, and inexpensive sushi. Nothing fancy and not putting on any airs. I had a place like this in Los Feliz (Tosa), and now I have found one close bye to Palm Desert. Sushi is fresh and delicious. Especially commend the crunchiness of the vegetable sushi. Beef Teriyaki is well prepared, if a bit chewy. But that's the point. I've been to places like Sugar Fish and had a wonderful time. Can seldom afford that kind of night out, though. With Sawa, I can have good sushi any time. read more

Ordered food to go a couple days ago and I haven't stopped thinking about this sushi! I ordered a Bruce Roll, Eel Avocado and a Dragon roll and WOW. This is possibly the best sushi I have had in the whole valley. Tightly rolled and skillfully cut, we were so pleased with our dinner! Affordable and delicious! HIGHLY recommend. I have lived in the valley for 20 years and I cannot believe this is the first time I have had Sawa Sushi! The only thing I'm upset about is that I didn't know about it sooner. read more

Found my new favorite sushi place in the valley! The rice to fish ratio in the filling is perfect. All too often, japanese restaurants use too much rice to skimp out on the protein. They definitely don't do that here. The rice is a thin outer layer and the star of the show is the filling! The sushi is perfect bite sized and the ingredients were extremely fresh.
