I'd heard of Savory Crust before, but did not know that it was take-out only. I ordered a spinach and feta empanada and some buffalo chicken cauliflower. I waited about 10 minutes after placing my order at a kiosk. A few people came in and picked up their orders during that time. My spinach and feta empanada was good. The crust was flaky, although it was not full (top was air). I picked a chimichurri sauce, although there is a poster in store that has sauce/empanada suggestions. The buffalo cauliflower (small) was a very generous portion and a little spicy for me (though not unbearable). I think I would choose another sauce instead of buffalo and I would come back for the cauliflower.

Savory Crust - Morton Grove Philly cheesesteak empanada + avocado lime cilantro sauce Side of bulgogi beef fried rice & veggie potsticker (honestly huge for a side!) 4.9/5 Super filling, flavorful, and such a fun fusion spot. Loved the empanada crust + the sweet-savory mix of the bulgogi rice. Cozy little spot with friendly staff and tons of options to try next time! I haven't returned to this location since they opened and I'm pretty happy i did. They have a variety of savory and sweet empanadas stemming f3om some typical ones like apple pie and banana nut but they also have several specials like peach mango, buko and a whole bunch more. The service is pretty quick since they have ready made empanadas on hand. They also have a good variety of drinks as well. The ambiance is pretty quiet since this is purely a carryout establishment

Got this catered for lunch at my internship! Got the Argentinian chicken empanada, rice, and tofu stir fry. Chimichurri was sooo good. The empanada was HUGE and so yummy and filling. Perfect amount of spiciness. Tofu also had really good texture and flavor.

Picked up a pre-order from Savory Crust consisting of the pork belly empanada and the apple pie empanada. You have to do a little bit of work if you buy them to warm up at home in that you have to make a light egg wash and then you have to pop them in the oven for about 45 minutes. Compared to how they taste when the restaurant makes it, it's really the same! The pork belly was a little bit saltier than I prefer, but the apple pie was so good - I had to stop myself from eating more than just one. They are a pretty good size and they fill them up really well. The crust is definitely the best part. A surprisingly good option to have a fancier dinner for those busy weekdays. It's also great that they also participate in fundraisers for the community.

After passing by to many times to count I finally had an opportunity to stop in for carry out. Luckily carry out was the plan because Savory Crust doesn't have seating. They offer many different empanadas and coordinating sauce choices. We tried the samosa, pot roast and spinach and feta empanadas. We also ordered the ube dessert empanada because the apple cinnamon version was sold out. All of it was delicious. The employees were helpful and got the order out quickly. We'll be back.

I have tried their Empanadas because of Complimentary Cafe but this is the first time i actually went to their store. I liked my Samosa empanada. Spinach and feta is always good and has been my favorite. Have you tried Ube Horchata? You should! Its the only place i know that has it and its quite unique. I also love their cantaloupe aguafresca! Definitely going back for that! Place is small. Its not a sit fown place where you can hang out. More of a take out and to go place. Parking is not an issue. Service was great! Happy eating!

This is a small location with no seating. Everyone was friendly and prices are good. Their signage and the ordering method is set up well. Ube horchata? OMG, I got a surprise ube fix! It's unique and tasty. We ordered an assortment of empanadas to try. The Argentinian chicken, chicken pot pie, and Philly cheese steak are all delicious. 5 stars. The pork belly is OK but a little disappointing. The sauces made the other choices so good where this is more just meat and crust. All of them have a pot pie style crust. The apple pie empanada tastes like a McDonald's apple pie for grown-ups. Very good.

This shop has been around for awhile, but I finally got around to trying it out. I understand it has gone through many iterations (sit down, counter, takeout, etc). We've had takeout from here twice now. The store... well, there's not much store left. It's like a commercial kitchen strapped to a strip mall. You can order ahead or via a self-service kiosk. The first time I was there, I ordered via the kiosk. There were many take out orders passing me by while waiting for my order. I'm not an empanada expert, but I can see the quality and variety of the menu. Also, it is not mostly crust, which can be viewed as a cost-savings trick. There's plenty of "filling". There are also limited-time flavors which I think is great because it gives the impression that the kitchen/chef is still innovating, still experimenting. We tried pork belly, chicken pot pie, Argentinian beef savory flavors and the banana hazelnut dessert. Very diverse and very delicious. The only tiny caveat is seems like a tad pricey, but as I mentioned, I am no empanada expert.

Very tasty empanadas in a nice variety of flavors! There's no place to eat in the store; you have to take your order to go. Because of this, it makes sense to order online and then just show up to pick up your order. But if you didn't think ahead like that (we didn't!), you can also put in your order using the kiosks in the store. You can get your empanadas cooked fresh when you order. You can also buy frozen empanadas and heat them at home. The inside of the store looks a little too....functional, but then it's not a sit-down restaurant so I guess it doesn't need much in the way of decor. But the store's rough appearance is forgiven because those empanadas are delicious! Get a variety and try as many as you can, because each flavor is unique. Choosing which dipping sauce is a bit of guesswork, but I suppose you could ask an employee for recommendations if you're not sure which sauces go with which empanadas. Empanadas come in labeled paper bags. They have dessert empanadas, too!

Savory Crust is such a unique and delicious restaurant! They make light and flakey, BAKED empanadas in sweet and savory flavors. They also have rice bowls and wings on their menu. I can only speak about the empanadas because I drive 35 mins for just for them! First, the service is wonderful! The staff working here are always so friendly, warm, welcoming, and helpful! I've been in line listening to them talk to customers. No matter how long the line is, they are so patient answering questions and giving suggestions as if the person speaking to them is the only customer on the store. There's no rush, rush - what's your order? - Next! They are proud of what they service. The empanadas! So warm, light, buttery flakey, melt in your mouth, packed with ingredients and baked so it's healthy! My favorites and my family's favorites are the Philly Cheesesteak, Chicken Pot Pie (check out the rosemary on top!), Pork Belly, and my youngest loves their Mac N' Cheese empanadas. They are pretty big in size so hubs eats about 2 sometimes 2-1/2 and he's full for most of the day. My 14 year old teenage son who is stick skinny can eat 3 without a blink and sometimes he will eat 4. I don't know where he puts it all in his 6' size 28 waist pants, but every bite gets eaten! I can finish 1 and I'm full for the day. My youngest does 2 Mac n' Cheese but that's on a really hungry day. The empanadas comes with a choice of sauces to go with them. I like my Philly Cheesesteak with the avocado lime cilantro sauce. The Chicken Pot Pie is tasty with the blackberry hoisin sauce. That's just me. Everyone else eats theirs without sauce or will sparingly add the mango chutney or chimichurri. Nothing touches the Mac n' cheese, says my son. They also have dessert empanadas. Apple Pie is a big one for us. We also like the hazelnut cocoa and banana, but I've noticed if it's not eaten hot and fresh, it tastes kinda mushy - still good but not as good as hot and fresh. I tried the hazelnut cocoa poppers which were ok. Messy eats when I'm driving, I had to vacuum out the cinnamon sugar from the seat and floor mat (and myself). It was really tasty fresh and hot, but I saved 2 for my son and they weren't as yummy an hour later.... So eat them fresh and vacuum yourself clean later. Yes, I drive 35 mins to the Morton Grove location. I've never been to their other location. MG always has such friendly staff, I don't want to go elsewhere. This time I picked up a couple packages of frozen empanadas so I can make them at home when we're busy during the holidays!

When walking into Savory Crust, the interior is nothing fancy. There was no seating available inside, so be prepared to take-out. I ordered on an iPad and the food was ready in about 10 min. I ordered a variety of pretty much everything. Cheese empanada - surprisingly delicious especially dipped in marinara Chicken pot pie empanada - reminded me of Thanksgiving and the filling tasted just like traditional chicken pot pie Argentinian Beef - tender beef but very one note Salsa verde - my favorite!!! Such tender meat and great flavor Chicken curry - this was horrible. The meat was dry and taste was off The sides of hot Cheeto elote and garlic tostones were both amazing. The dessert empanadas were much smaller and not as impressive. I was not a fan of the guava and cheese one, but I liked the apple pie one a lot. The churros were barely seasoned and needed much more cinnamon and sugar. It was fun tasting a variety and now I know what I like!

Well, after hearing about and passing by this local place for years, I finally made it here to try their empanadas. I might have waited a few years too long though as inflation has raised their prices to the point where I think their products are now just a-ok 3-star values. I picked up an Argentinian beef empanada for $5.95 and a guava and cheese dessert empanada for $3.95. They tasted fine but I thought they were on the smallish side for the price. Each empananda comes in a labeled paper bag, so that's nice for divvying up any order you may place. The Yelp check-in did get me a free mango agua fresca drink so that was a nice Yelp treat that the attendant readily honored. This store is also a carryout only location fyi. It's always nice to personally try a highly rated eatery and this place was no exception.

Does anyone know if they have the traditional Filipino empanadas made with raisins? Just my opinion, but Filipino empanadas are the best!

No raisins. I actually would have liked if the Argentian empanada had raisins in it, but nope.

Hi, does anyone know if the ube empanadas are available at a particular time of the year? I notice Tricia D. had one but I don't believe it's available any longer?!?

Yes yes! Sorry for the delay in reply! We have them available but they go so fast because people buy them by the handful! My other suggestion is to call and order them specifically and you will get them. We have them in stock until the end of the… Read more

Instead of being the canned stuff you can tell they put both a lot of care and seasoning into it. We moved out to the burbs and I saw this one on Yelp...but was it related? I mean, they have two different websites, and the one for this location literally has on their website "Serving you at one location!" We weren't sure, but we were willing to give it a shot. We came early on a Saturday, and inside they had a picture of the one in Chicago, and street signs for Ashland and Roscoe, where the Chicago one is located. So it HAS to be related...right? But the menus looked a little different... We got started with the chips and salsa, and the salsa has a real kick. Note that you only get the first chips for free and more chips would cost more. My wife got a torta, and I got tacos with steak and eggs on it, while my kid got the kid's quesadilla meal. And sure enough, there were those beans. Not dry at all and super flavorful. Next time I need to do my wife's play and order double beans instead of beans and rice. My tacos were messy but cooked well, with lots of bits of steak. I was a little confused because I thought my kid's meal would come with a drink, but they charged for his lemonade. I assume it's because it was a special blended drink and not just from a soda fountain. Now that we know this is here, we'll definitely be back, especially seeing that they have a patio for warmer weather. Glad to see we have an option when we're missing our city days.

We ordered the octopus, patatas bravas, and the steak meal for two. The octopus was extremely overcooked and chewy, and the steak platter itself just felt underwhelming overall. Also... how does a Mexican steakhouse not provide tortillas with a steak platter? That honestly shocked me. The biggest confusion of the night was the patatas bravas situation. Our waitress forgot the dish entirely, then later brought over mashed potatoes and said they were "on the house." I was genuinely confused because I thought maybe this was their version of patatas bravas due to the seasoning on top. When I asked about it, she realized she accidentally brought mashed potatoes instead of the actual dish. She apologized and eventually brought the real patatas bravas, but even those tasted oddly sweet and missed the mark for us. To their credit, the staff did try to make up for it with complimentary shots, and the cocktails were honestly the best part of the experience. The space itself is gorgeous and has a very upscale vibe, but the food lacked cohesion and flavor for the price point. Sadly, not somewhere I'd personally return to.

Fresh blue chips were great but sparse ; fortunately, the table chips and salsa were equally good ( again, no heat) We proceeded to order the pulpo and 16 oz ribeye (which came with patatas bravas (so good !) and small house salad).
