It's a decent small sandwich. Tastes fresh. Worth a stop if you're in the neighbourhood. Didn't seem like there was a lot of seating. I think I counted four tables inside. This place has absolutely delicious lattes, with a few syrups to add and different milk alternatives. The store is also super warm and cozy with a small patio and some seating. A great place to grab a drink with friends or get some work done, a solid play list too. I wasn't really a fan of their biscuit sandwich, very dry and a lil greasy, as well as being not that flavourful. It's also quite pricey for a small breakfast sandwich. The service is also a bit slow, even when they aren't that busy. It could be because they get a lot of delivery orders. I would say definitely stop by for a coffee if you aren't in a rush, one of my favourites in the city, but I would skip the food. read more

Saving Gigi is located at Bloor and Roxton Road, a short walk from Ossington subway station. The small coffee shop serves a variety of caffeinated beverages, baked goods, breakfast items as well as sandwiches. There is seating indoors and outdoors as well on their small patio. They are also available through different food ordering apps. I had heard many great things about Saving Gigi's breakfast sandwich for a long time. I was finally able to visit the cafe on a Sat morning. I went around 8:15am and I still had to wait in line for a bit. I ordered a breakfast sandwich (with bacon with the cheddar scone) as well as a flat white with oat milk. My beverage was made before I paid and I waited about 5-10 min for the breakfast sandwich (there were other orders ahead of me). The flat white was made well. The breakfast sandwich was definitely the highlight. The cheddar scone added a whole new element of flavour and deliciousness. The scone was warm and was slightly crispy (but not too crispy) and pillowy in the centre. Can't go wrong with eggs and bacon in a breakfast sandwich. Really liked this place. Small and sort of easy to miss from the outside, but such a warm and welcoming feel one you step inside. A small cozy place with some pieces from local artists hung on the wall, and a friendly staff to whip you up great cups of coffee, and some lovely breakfast sandwiches. I love a good breakfast sandwich, and I'm so glad to have found Saving Gigi! My go-to is getting their jalapeño cheddar buttermilk biscuit breakfast sandwich with mushrooms and hot sauce. (yum!) The sandwich has the perfect balance of bread, egg and veg - so good! And their biscuits even just by themselves are excellent. I'd give Saving Gigi a 3.5. Saving Gigi is a nice cozy cafe in Bloorcourt. I came in on a Sunday afternoon and it was quite busy with people enjoying coffee while catching up wiht friends, some working on their laptops (like me) and others having late breakfast. I ordered a a breakfast sandwich which I thought was a bit too simple considering the cost. Their coffee wasn't my cup of Joe either as I prefer a more bitter taste, not sour. Although it wasn't for me, it's still worth checking out if you're in the neighbourhood for a coffee, quick bite or even just a place to sit and catch up with a friend. Found a new co-working/working/coffee spot/brunch spot/everything spot :) Came by Saving Gigi's recently, though I have definitely been in the past as well. I was reminded what a perfect summer haunt this place is. There's a beautiful shady patio and brand new AC pumping inside. Ordering is made simple when you can just go to the cash, get a number, get to work and then get everything brought out to you! I was impressed by a friend's House Salad that she ordered, and even more surprised when I heard it was called a simple House Salad! That thing came fully loaded loaded with tons of freshly cut and shaved veggies. I also got a shakshukah dish that was really nice and hearty, ordered with caramelized onions added on. It's a great, friendly coffee shop that also happens to be close to where I live. It's hard to find a cafe with a menu as robust as Saving Gigi's. They have a wide range of salads, sandwiches, and heavenly homemade soups. Lots of vegan, veggie, and GF options and all day breakfast . My boyfriend and I ducked in here after a cold, blustery walking tour of Toronto's art murals. We were just looking for a refuge from the cold, and to warm up with some coffee, but I feel like we got way more than we expected. The coffee is probably the best coffee I've ever had in my life. I had a hazelnut latte, and I don't even remember what he had because what I had captured my tastebuds so effectively. We hung around for awhile (too cold to venture out), and the staff didn't rush us out or bother us. To be quite frank, I don't think I would have gone in if it was just me. I am definitely a little bougie, and this place is definitely not, but it was warm and friendly and way better than Sorry Coffee Co in the Kit and Ace in Yorkville (which is the bougiest place ever). Oh man was this place ever saved. They just scream community. This Father and Son owned shop is a great place to support local businesses. When you walk in the have artwork by local artists all over their walls. The shop specializes in breakfast foods which they make from scratch every morning. Their biscuits are to die for!! The shop also has baristas to create the coffee/tea based beverage of your desire. If you need a little pep in your step then they also have alcohol to serve as well. Whether you need a craft beef fix or some hard liquor for a rough day, this locally owned shop has you covered. They also have a nice cozy patio for warmer seasons. Our party of two, sat down at a table for four, but the problem was that a party of two was already seated there. They didn't seem to mind, but because they were there first, we let their conversation dominate over our conversation. Are ya following me so far? Reading the reviews as I walked in I was a little dismayed to read that they were a cash only establishment, however this proved to be an outdated fact. It's a simple cafe/restaurant, nothing too crazy decor wise and sort of bare bones, but not in a negative way, just minimalist with a focus on food/drink and service. I've been coming here for ten years. I have seen owners change and the menu change but it remains one of my favorite places. The staff are charming and remember your name. They rarely if ever make mistakes on your order no matter how complicated it is and when they do they go out of their way to make it right. I made a ton of friends here. This place is awful. If quick and dirty brunch is your thing they definitely have the dirty part down pat--everything is filthy--but service is extremely slow. FILTHY. Dust everywhere, dirty cups that were poorly washed and still have lip stains on them, and food that looked worse than you could make yourself at home while hungover weren't even the worst part of it. And don't look up unless you want to gaze at the dust bunnies living in the paper lanterns above your head. Not sure how they passed a health inspection looking like that. The slow and rude service was the worst part. Our waitress was nice; the problem was with the manager or owner dude, who I will now refer to as 'Bruh' (pronounced something between 'bro' and 'bra'). It was taking a really long time to get my order. The waitress came by and put an order that looked like mine in front of me. Seconds later she came back and took it away. She had mistakenly brought it to the wrong table. She seemed new. No big deal. So the manager/owner, Bruh, was quite rude and started yelling at her across the restaurant as if to make her feel stupid that she didn't know where table 6 was. I thought that was unprofessional and felt bad and embarrassed for her. I don't support places that treat their employees disrespectfully, especially so openly in front of customers. Not cool. Several minutes later when he was coming by I got his attention and told him that it's been over half an hour since I ordered my food--though in retrospect I'd say closer to 45 minutes--and that waitstaff keep coming by and telling me it's coming, that I haven't seen it yet, and that if he could refund me my money so I can go eat somewhere else. He said "F*** yeah bruh!" and stormed to the cash register. He was so mad! It was a definite "what the heck?" moment. I went to follow him, somewhat confused as to what was going on and if I was imagining how mad he was right now. I heard him angrily say something like "that GIRL over there," as if to purposely be condescending and disrespectful. When I got to the register I tried to calmly explain that I was leaving because it was taking a really long time. He yelled "I don't care!" He was really mad and rude, making a huge scene, as if he took it personally. His behaviour was so ridiculous that I asked "Why are you so mad?" and he responded that I was mad and giving attitude so he was mad back. Great answer. The professionalism and maturity definitely shined there! I was trying to calmly rationalize with him to calm him down, then he started raging, saying that his place is organic and that I could go to Egg Smart across the street and be served faster, which sounded like he was trying to act like his place was better than Egg Smart. And I'm pretty sure organic eggs cook just as fast as factory farmed eggs. I buy organic eggs, Bruh, and make them at home and they don't take that long to make. Organic food doesn't take longer to cook; I eat at local, natural and organic restaurants all the time, and Saving Gigi takes the (organic, dust-covered) cake for the worst place I've been to in a while. His behaviour was completely unwarranted and irrational. He was blowing it out of proportion. He was so mad, extremely unprofessional, and seemed to take everything personally. He was rude to me and dropping F bombs every few seconds. I was really shocked. I've never seen anything like it. I think I was more confused than offended. I decided to stop trying to rationalize and calm him down because people like that are incapable of rational thought. He was a total jerk, extremely loud and obnoxiously overreacting. Very dramatic. This guy is ridiculous and needs to chill out. This was one of my only "hipster" impressions and it left a bad one for sure. We left, checked Yelp and ended up going somewhere else, which also seemed to be run by hipsters--if the definition of hipsters was mid-rise tapered jeans and plaid--but they were friendly, polite and clean, so I know that this dirtiness and rude attitude wasn't a hipster thing, this was just a Saving Gigi thing. I will never go back here or the sister restaurant Saving Grace. If price is your reason for going here, it's not even that cheap. The value is not there. We went to Union on Ossington and paid $4 more for a much better dish--naturally raised, freshly ground beef burger--so if you're broke and that's why you're thinking of going here, I wouldn't even count that as a pro, bruh. It's low value. This place is expensive for what it is (which is crap, if I wasn't clear). Cole's Notes version: If waiting 45 minutes for eggs and pre-made sides, slow service with a rude unprofessional manager, dirty glasses with lip stains, hair stuck to water carafes, and an ambiance full of dust bunnies is your idea of weekend brunch, then definitely hit this place up! Ordered a bacon egg breakfast wrap from the all day breakfast menu, took a seat and sipped Steamwhistle pint while I waited. The Best breakfast wrap I've had! Comes with a dipping sauce that's to die for. Service is top notch and cafe is small and quaint but offers lovely patio if you choose to forgo the AC. I love how Toronto has so many coffee shops. Each shop a bit different, allowing patrons to pick what is the best for them. As such, the variety of all these shops makes out (pun intended) for almost like a caffeinated dating scene. You want to get out there, see what the scene has to offer, but ultimately (as with dating), it either clicks or it doesn't. For me, Saving Gigi didn't click. Let me run down my personal pros and cons, Pros - great location. If you are meeting someone along the Bloor line and don't want to go to a place that is uber busy, or is a chain - this is the spot - very friendly staff. The staff seem to genuinely like working at this place! No somber faces, no people pushing you to get out. Very welcoming - Bottles of water, and glasses, at the table. Love this. - small patio on the east side of the shop - turntable! Expect a great variety of music! - a pretty decent latte. Not too strong or bitter. Quite smooth. Cons - Aesthetically unappealing. It seems as if the decor is trying to go for the homey feel. To me, it seems grungy (and not in a Kurt Cobain kinda way). The space does not feel clean to me. The signage out front leaves much to be desired. From the decor, signage, and uncomfortable wobbly chairs, it seems as if someone had an idea to open a coffee shop on a Wednesday, raided their grandparents basement, and opened shop on the Friday. - My friend ventured into the basement bathroom and said it reminded her of the outhouse that was adjacent to her grandparents wee, no central heating, home in the West Midlands of England. Overall if you are into the hipster scene, this is a spot for you. If you have a beard, wear t-shirts that are too tight, go for that haven't bathed in a while look - check this spot out. I've been to Saving Gigi a few times before. They have good coffee and a nice atmosphere. I live down the road and wanted to get together with some friends and have some drinks and relax before having a pretty major surgery. My girlfriend and I arrived around 8:30 and a week prior we had asked if it was alright if 10 or so people came. They assured us that it would be fine and there would be room. Right away the server was rude to my girlfriend. She asked for 2 rye and gingers, and the server coldly replied with 'we don't have ginger ale.' My girlfriend pleasantly asked what the server would recommend and the server laughed at my girlfriend, saying 'we don't have pop.' Sorry but not everyone drinks booze on the rocks, or whiskey and apple juice, which the server recommended next. If you're a coffee shop wishing to serve booze at night, is it that hard to buy a few cans of pop? The server returned to our table with 1 drink, and was again very rude when my girlfriend reminded her that it was 2 drinks. All night my friends had to go up to the counter to order food and drinks. This is not unheard of for a coffee shop serving liquor at night, but at least show some friendliness. All night, both servers behind the counter were rude to me and everyone else. I've worked as a server, so I am nothing but polite when out for drinks/food. The only time the server/barrista talked to us was when she asked us to push in our chairs so she could get by. 'You reallllly need to push in your chairs....' After settling up my $45 bill (2 sandwiches, 2 whiskeys, 2 ciders) I was leaving with the few friends left, our server chased us out telling us that one of our friends who had just left, did not pay for her food. She began to describe her so we decided to call her to find out that she didn't order any food. The server then stood there, as if we had no other choice but to pay the friends bill that the server had forgotten about. A few of my friends offered to pay, but I felt bad and paid the missed bill myself (another $8). The next day my girlfriend and I had figured out who had the plate of food that was unpaid for, and we sent them a quick text asking if they had remembered. They told us that they had paid 3 separate times, and that the plate of food was for sure paid for. People make mistakes, but when someone is cold and impolite to you all night long and make you feel like you shouldn't be at their bar or coffee shop, it makes it a lot more difficult to enjoy yourself. This was an important night for me and i wanted to be able to enjoy myself one more time with my friends before surgery. How have I not reviewed this place yet? Saving Gigi, I've taken you for granted. I love this place. Top reasons for loving Saving Gigi: 1. Super friendly staff. I don't know what's in their water, but I want some of it. To a person, they are accommodating, chill and helpful. When you order a coffee, they smile and say, "Go ahead and sit down, I'll bring it to your table." They bring you water without you having to ask for it. (Maybe I should be drinking more of it?) 2. Music. Never before in my life could I say that I've liked the music playing in a cafe literally every time I've been there. But the vinyl they spin at Saving Gigi is always great. And they often play whole albums instead of the jarring effect of one song from one genre followed by another totally different genre (You know what I'm talking about...brazilian guitar followed by nine inch nails a la ipod shuffle). 3. Location. We have so few good cafes in the Ossington and Bloor area. This is our saving grace! 4. Free wifi and many plugs so you can easily charge your computer as you work 5. Pretty colourful pillows scattered around the benches. I just like them. 6. I've heard the food's good, too. Saving Gigi is pretty cool. But in the summer it's really hot. Literally, it's boiling, sweaty and the air is dense. Wear deodorant. I've only ever ordered an Americano when I've been there. But it's good, and I'd order it again and again and again. I'm discouraged by how expensive the sandwiches are: 7 dollars for a panini. Mind you, I'm sure it's made well and I'm sure it's delicious. But my broke U of T ass can't afford that. So I have to resort to the student diet when I'm there: curbing the apatite with caffeine. When you go to order a coffee they tell you they'll bring the coffee to you, which is nice, in a way, but mostly just inconvenient. If you put anything in your coffee you have to get your lazy ass up to put the milk or the sugar in, then you have to get your lazy ass up again at the end and request to pay. I rather just get it all over and done with in the first place. Every time I've gone there I've found the whole experience rather awkward. Maybe it's just me? Maybe I'm awkward and Saving Gigi isn't? I think why I like Saving Gigi so much, apart from the decor (which I, being drawn to things that look pretty, am always critical of), is that there aren't many other cafe options in the area. If you migrate a bit west on Bloor from the Annex, you get to Saving Gigi and it's refreshing and it's exciting and it's not Aroma or Starbucks. I'm pleased. I'm ambivalent about Saving Gigi these days. I knew this place when it first opened a few years ago. It's food, coffee, and service was worse, but there were less clientele and it felt like a cool, secret lil' spot. Now, it's revamped and has new ownership. The food and coffee are far better but it doesn't feel comfy anymore (definitely no longer a place to sit for hours to do work...) That said, Christian and Amelia are lovely lovely people who do their best to keep their customers happy. Introduce yourself. They will chat you up and make you feel at home. It is only because of them that I I've forgotten I wasn't in my living room and left without paying! In summation: points for neighbhorhood appeal, food, and coffee, demerits for increased hipsterdom and crowdedness... ALSO the wi-fi there is shakey at best read more

I would rate Saving Gigi anything more than 1 star, if it was only open at the times that I actually want coffee... which is pretty average at most and bit pricey. Look out for places with longer opening times and serious quality coffee. At least in this category there is no shortage.... read more

I love the coffee/espresso bevs here! They're great! I struggled so long to find a place in this city with a decent cappuccino that I almost stopped ordering them. Thank you Saving Gigi for restoring my faith in Toronto's espresso culture! They also have a well-rounded selection of beer and wine. I haven't tried the food but honestly, I could care less about the many reviews on here about the long wait times -- Give them a break! It's busy and everything is made in-house. I've been meaning to review this spot for a while. I really, really want to love this place, but in my experience it often comes up short. First, let's start with the strong points. Saving Gigi has a nice atmosphere/decor, great food and beverages and an adorable little patio. Sometimes there is even live music. The owners are pleasant and are usually around the joint. Unfortunately, it seems that something always goes wrong or manages to irk me while I am there. First of all, the WIFI often doesn't work and the staff do not care to help when it is acting up. On many occasions I have found the staff to be borderline rude, dismissive or annoyed by requests. I often feel as though I am walking on eggshells with them. As for the food, there are often incredibly long wait times. Though the sandwiches ARE good, they are far too tiny to warrant the $7.50+tax cost. This isn't Yorkville. I understand that this is a small, independently-run establishment that needs to stay afloat, but for that price I feel as though the portion should be larger. Overall, it's a cute little cafe, and it could be made significantly better with a few minor tweaks. read more
