There was no way we could afford that, but also no way to break our daughter's heart. We found VSS through Yelp and called immediately. All in, surgery, meds, and post-op we paid less than $2200.00. LeeAnn, who was the first person I spoke to, was encouraging, detailed in her instructions to care for our dog before surgery, and clear about the records I would need to provide before the first visit. From the time I entered the facility, I was very impressed with all the staff. The surgery went well, the post-op visits were thorough and clear in noting progress and next steps. Unfortunately, in the recovery process, I accidently hit my dog's let getting him into my car. I was in tears, and they were very empathetic and assured me Hopper would be ok. True to their work, Hopper has regained his name - running, hopping onto furniture and our deck. I have referred our co-worker and another acquaintance to VSS. They were both very pleased as well with the price, the service, and the outcomes.

I guess you get what you pay for. They boast themselves on being the most reasonably priced TPLO…read moresurgery place in the CenTex area. What they lack is empathy and care for their clients and the pets that ultimately need care under their facility. We called to book a surgical consultation last week and missed reading these 1 star reviews before. Right from the start, the receptionist had a condescending tone with us (What does your GPS say your exact ETA is, Dr. L is about to leave!) Noting that we were only 10 mins late because of traffic. Then the whole vibe of that place is off. It didn't feel genuine at the appointment that they really care about our pet even though we are essentially walking in to pay them for their surgeries. The final test of their lack of client service came yesterday when we tried to book a surgery date over phone. When they learned that we will be going through our own financial payment plan and not theirs, the front desk manager and receptionist lost their composure completely and started patronizing us saying things like "I am not going to spend an hour on phone explaining to you how financing works and you will not be speaking to anyone anymore and not coming to our office ever again." Marian Romero needs some serious customer service training as she sounds like this is the first ever managerial job she has held. It seems like they are making profit hand over fist so don't really care too much about treating their clients well. Paying less doesn't mean giving up your dignity for anyone. Isn't their first promise to "cause no harm" as a vet practice and doesn't that include their words and actions too? I shake at the thought of how they might have treated our beloved pet if we had decided to go with them. Run don't walk from this location!!

They are so accommodating and fairly priced. We recently lost Kilo to bone cancer and we had Dr. Wahl walk us through the very hard and emotional process. She was so amazing guiding us while being the best advocate for Kilo and what's best for him. The whole team was incredibly helpful and very empathic during this hard time. My 3 young sons wanted to be there for the process and the team were so helpful with providing snacks & coloring and activities to preoccupy my kiddos. I felt so supported even at this difficult moment. They also sent sympathy cards from the team with his sweet paw prints and a heart felt notes after his passing. I highly recommend Dr. Wahl and everyone on the team. The service went beyond just doing their job- it was heartfelt and sincere. A place that will look after you and your pet when life gets tough.

I am extremely disappointed with how Bastrop Veterinary Hospital handled my dog's appointment…read moretoday. My dog is a Great Dane with advanced dilated cardiomyopathy, atrial fibrillation, and congestive heart failure. He is essentially on hospice care and takes more than 30 medications a day. Because of his severe heart condition, his cardiologist has instructed that he cannot be vaccinated due to the risk to his heart. Bastrop Veterinary Hospital already knows this. My dog has been treated there before, including earlier this year when they performed tests that were ordered by his cardiologist. They have our account, his medical history, and all of this information on file. I scheduled a nail trim appointment because my dog is in pain from overgrown nails and he will not allow me to trim them at home. I explained his medical condition in the appointment notes and that he is reactive and would need to be handled carefully. Before the appointment, the clinic even called and left a voicemail reminding me to give him anxiety medication before coming in. I still had trazodone from a previous visit, so I medicated him 90 minutes before the appointment exactly as instructed. Getting him to the clinic is not easy. Car rides are extremely stressful for him because of his advanced heart disease. I specifically chose this clinic because it is close to my home and minimizes that stress. When we arrived, I told them I would wait in the car because he does not do well around other dogs. They initially agreed. However, they then brought me inside and had me wait in the lobby anyway while they prepared a room, which immediately put him into a stressful situation I had asked to avoid. When they finally took him to the back, I placed a muzzle on him and tightened it to make sure he could not get it off so that staff would be safe. They told me it would only take a moment. Six minutes later, someone came out with a clipboard and told me they could not perform the nail trim because he is not vaccinated. This was shocking and extremely frustrating. They already knew my dog's medical history. They had treated him previously without vaccinations because of his severe heart condition. They had just called me beforehand to ensure he was medicated for the visit. Yet no one bothered to mention that they would refuse treatment once I arrived. Instead, they let me go through the process of medicating a critically ill dog, putting him through the stress of a car ride, muzzling him, and waiting, only to tell me after the fact that they wouldn't help him. My dog is in pain because his nails cannot be trimmed safely at home, which is exactly why I brought him to professionals. If the clinic had simply called ahead of time and said they could not perform the service, that would have been understandable. Instead, they put a very sick dog through unnecessary stress and wasted our time. It was incredibly disappointing and frankly unacceptable.

My dog was sick and I had no idea what was wrong. I took him in twice. The first time was blood work, everything came back normal and I went home with nausea meds. The next day I brought him back for X-rays since he continued throwing up. There was a fill in Vet (he was nice as well) the X-ray showed something that could possibly be concerning, but they weren't too sure. I couldn't do the ultrasound there that day due to a technician not being available and having to schedule it another day, so I tried to go somewhere else. I did not end up going to the place that I had them call due to cost being too high. (the place I had them call was my choice not theirs, I didn't ask for a recommendation and they didn't give me one) Eventually I went to a different place that was more affordable. The vet at this new place felt my dog's abdomen and immediately felt something in it and said he doesn't need tests we need surgery. He cleared his schedule and did surgery the same day. That doctor at the Vet (not petco) told me in 2 minutes what the petco vets could not. I wasted $900 on pointless tests and valuable time that could have cost my dogs life. The people at petco are not rude, but I will NEVER bring my dog back knowing that I spent $900 on services that could have been avoided while another Vet was able to tell me in 2 minutes my dog needed surgery and there's no point in doing any tests. Not to mention, I took my dog to this vet on Sunday for blood work, when I came back on Monday, I had to pay the initial visit fee even though he had been checked the day before and I just asked for x-rays. I also need everyone to know, it is VERY hard to get your dog seen at another vet after being seen by anyone else. The only reason this is an issue in this case is because petco is not able to do everything, and if you need to go somewhere else it makes it extremely hard unless you want to go to an emergency pet hospital. Please do yourself, your pet, and your wallet the favor of going somewhere else.

My 11 year old white poodle mix began to show lots of sudden fatigue, appetite loss, vomiting and diarrhea. I contacted their front desk and was encouraged to bring my dog Oliver in as soon as I could. They immediately took us in and began care for him. After a thorough examination and blood work his levels were not good at all. Dr. Brown immediately reacted and hospitalized Oliver for immediate care and observation. She then educated me on his diagnosis that he was ultimately in diabetic ketoasidosis. She explained with much care, clear and concise words for me to understand. She educated me what happened, that it wasn't my fault and her plan to treat him. She gave me the worst news but I felt so reassured and supported I knew my boy was in good hands. 24 hrs later Oliver is back to his spunky self prancing, eating and being lovable. She sent us home with clear instructions and medication to keep Oliver on the path to recovery. Oliver will be back in 2 weeks for a follow up visit. The cost was surprisingly less than anticipated and I can't thank her and her amazing team enough for all they did. Oliver will be going back to visit her on a regular basis to manage his newly diagnosed diabetes and I am 100% confident Dr. Brown is the best place for any pet needing help. 10/10 can't recommend this place enough. The wait time was a little long, however it is also an urgent care and with that I understand that emergencies come first, so please don't let that deter you from giving this amazing place a try. The doctor, Dr.Coodrod, was amazing and walked me through the next steps in Mac's life. While we talked, they kept Mac on a heating source as his temp was low when I had come in. Dr.Coonrod went out of his way to show me how to properly stimulate my kitten, and after the appointment they sent me home with two gloves filled with warm water to keep Mac warm during the drive home. A few days after my appointment, the vet office reached out to see how my friend was progressing, which I'm proud to say he is gaining weight at a great rate. The prices were great, the staff amazing, and their bedside manner is top tier. I cannot wait to bring in Mac for his first set of vaccines in a couple weeks, and as long as I live in manor, my animals will go to this hospital.
