So convinent, organized and well staffed. Employees are helpful and professional. I also like that save a thon offers diff classes.

This place is GREAT!! It's very large and well organized. The upstairs has tons of material for people who sew. Lovely assorted fabrics - every kind imaginable, and extremely affordable. The downstairs has wool for knitting and crocheting, and various decorative things for the home. Framed pictures, interesting bowls, and many sizes of unique kinds of baskets. They also have odd, interesting pieces of furniture and area rugs. Baby and bridal favors are also sold here. A wonderful store, with very reasonable prices!! read more

It's worth a visit, especially, if you enjoy arts, crafts, baking, knitting and sewing. You'll find some decent fabric at fair prices and lots of "stuff" to stimulate an idea for a project. The highlight of my last trip was a bag of natural feathers which I ended up using to sew up into a bird, as a cat toy! It's good for me because I like to wander around in stores like this without sales "help" interrupting me before I'm ready to ask questions. read more

I've been a Save A Thon shopper for more than 20 years. My store use to be the one on Bridge Street, downtown Brooklyn, and sometimes the one on Flatbush by Caton Ave. Now since the downtown has gone out of business, I continue to shop at either one of the Flatbush Ave. Stores. Oh, for those who don't know, they have a small outlet on Avenue U just off of Flatbush. I picked up some great pieces to cover my chair pillows. read more

I went all the way out to Marine Park because I'm on a budget and everyone else said it was cheap. At this store, you definitely get what you pay for. Everything they sell is super low quality, so don't come looking for a bargain, expect low prices for low quality. There were 4 people working while I was there, including the owner but I couldn't get any service. All four people were extremely rude to me, acting like they had better things to do than help me; like stand around and eat fast food. At one point I went downstairs to ask for help upstairs and the guy who said he was the owner refused to help me, screamed across the store for someone else and gruffly asked me why the woman upstairs didn't call for help if she was busy. They also have a section with notions that's behind a counter. I wasn't sure exactly what I was looking for, I wanted to shop around and see so I asked if I could come behind the counter. The woman refused and I ended up so annoyed and frustrated that I left without getting what I needed. Huge disappointment, don't waste your time. read more

This store is just about the only one of its kind in this end of Brooklyn and it's vastly improved over the last few months. Seems that that old management is out and a new, more forward thinking, manager is in. Upstairs, the fabric department has always been good for wearable fabrics and great for home decor fabrics. The prices are unbeatable - I covered 6 dining room chair cushions for under $5! The selection of buttons and trims is adequate. The cheesy housewares seem to be gone in the basement, replaced by a vastly improved and well-stocked yarn department, cake decorating supplies, and a teaching area. Good selection of Red Heart, Bernat, Caron, and Premier/Deborah Norville yarns at reasonable prices. Main floor has a good stock of craft supplies, storage pieces, floral pieces, and interesting odds and ends. Staff is very polite and helpful. The manager needs an office where he can yell at suppliers privately instead of doing that on the sales floor. read more

I'm a HUGE arts and crafts person. With that said, I was really excited when a friend told me about Save A Thon. After reading a lot of great reviews, I figured I'd give it a try. It's right across the street from Kings Plaza and a pretty big store! The outside had some baskets with random stuff for $0.99. I didn't really check out the first floor much, because I came in with my Mom to buy fabric. Upstairs had a pretty decent selection of fabric. I was looking for a light, airy cotton (one that I could make a maxi dress out of) and asked the woman behind the counter to help me. Unfortunately, she answered my every question with, "I don't know" leaving me to venture out on my own to find the type of fabric I wanted. My Mom asked her for random things like bobbins, pins, etc. and she still replied with "I don't know." She plainly told us she didn't know how to sew and really has no clue about fabrics and scissors (which I thought was a little odd). Anyway they have a good selection of random sewing supplies and trinkets alike. Not really a good place for patters (most of them are either children's, dolls, or Halloween costumes). Bottom line: go only if you know exactly what you are looking for. The staff really won't help much. I also heard they have pretty cheap sewing lessons which I will look into. read more
