There are times when the things that you need to cook something very special, or just something…read morevery specific cannot be found at a standard grocery. These happen to be my favorite times, as I love cooking and I love making things authentic and as legitimate as possible when I can. Over the past year, I have made it my personal achievement to become proficient in making tamales. Over the last eight months I have learned to perfect multiple different tamales, but I cannot call myself a master, as I have not put in the time of a true master. This is what led me to La Mexicana. A search for proper ingredients beyond just the simple masa and lard. I am always looking for fresh peppers when it's out of season that I cannot grow and dry myself. As well as other things to toy with my base tamale recipe to try and create new and amazing things that may have not been done before. I am happy to say LA Mexicana has everything one needs and more to make any Latin meal and also has incredible people working there. The shop looks small from the outside but runs deep with a wonderful vibe and classic decoration and bright color. They have a deli towards the side and rear and even have the wonderful pastry cabinet that I hope to find in every carniceria. If you are in the area, this is one of the best and your best bet for great produce and all the best products you will not find anywhere else.

Sometimes a person will find a gem of a store that is so easy to miss it is a shame. If you ever…read moreare curious about trying Spanish-inspired dishes or at the very least want to see what you can get in a store like La Mexicana check it out! I have gone here as of today almost a handful of times and I get more interested in food culture and how food is cooked in Mexican and other ways. There is a surprising amount of food in such a small shop including as the front sign states a deli. They also have canned foods bagged foods like beans and blue flour corn and a section of refrigerated drinks that I only scratched the surface with purchasing. If you are wanting to support a rare business in the delco area or want to make something that is hard to find ingredients for in this part of North America, this place is for you so check it out! I do think you will love it.

I have become a loyal GIANT supermarket customer and discovered Harvest markets in Philadelphia…read moreextremely high priced limited selection but high quality foods. I now shop at a full service store at N. Broad at Spring Garden. It's an excellent store, wonderful, friendly and helpful employees clean and great selections. Due to excessive travel I rely on deliveries for my weekly groceries, the GIANT Direct delivery is terrible and reaching their customer service is impossible, cold items come warm and most fresh items sent expires in a couple days. They send you money back but don't resolve the issue. I find out that Giant is now owned by #AholdDelhaize a Dutch-Belgian multinational retail and wholesale holding company. Its name comes from the 2016 merger of two companies: Ahold (Dutch) and Delhaize Group (Belgian), which both have origins in the 1800s. Its business format includes supermarkets, convenience stores, hypermarkets, online grocery, online non-food, drugstores, and liquor stores. Its 16 local brands employ 402,000 people at 7,716 stores across nine countries. The United States is where two-thirds of the holding company's revenue is generated. When you message them they do not respond. I have to order grocery deliveries from you know who (Bezos) to get fresh non expiring items. So much for supporting American companies.
