Houston Astros - Altuve! Batting practice

Let's Go, Astros…read more I've been a Houston Astros fan for a long time. Even before I moved to Houston, I already loved this team. Watching players like Nolan Ryan, Jeff Bagwell, Craig Biggio, and Jose Cruz play. At the time I never imagined that I would ever meet any of these players. As my kids grew up in Houston, they also became Astros fans. It was so much fun to go to the Astrodome for a "Kids Run the Bases" after watching the game. Or being picked as the "Kid of the Day" for the game at Minute Maid Park. And then there was that time when I ordered a "Happy Birthday" scoreboard sign for my daughter and her best friend during the seventh inning stretch. They couldn't understand why we couldn't go to the bathroom until the message showed up on the big screen. I really love the community outreach that happens behind the scenes. So many players get back to the community. I was so happy when I heard from Nolan Ryan's team at Texas Beef. For several years, they donated thousands of dollars' worth of sausage for the state championship women's lacrosse tournament that our team hosted. It was a great addition to our snack bar that helped raise money for our women's high school lacrosse program. Other players also have foundations that support causes that really impact people's lives like disaster relief, charity funds, and support for children battling cancer. I recently went to batting practice where I learned more about the Correa Family Foundation and what Carlos Correa and his foundation do for the special heroes and their families that that are battling so many challenges as they fight childhood cancer. Jose Altuve, Kyle Tucker and Alex Bregman have also stepped up to the plate to support local causes. Over the years, I have had a bit of a World Series addiction (my friend, Omar, and I have rooted for different teams), but it is also so much fun to just come to a regular everyday game. Just to root for the home team. It's been so nice over the years to meet players off and on the field. Love to see the interaction with the players and their youngest fans. Watching the tears build up in a little boy's eyes as Jeremy Pena traded a bat for a glove made my heart so warm. So, take me out to the ball game. Let's Go, Astros! #3,000!

There was clearly an audience front even though the stadium is 360 and we were in one of the front sections. Great entertainment value with lots going on visually. Fun game. Took about 15 minutes to get through security/front doors when we arrived at 6PM (door opening time). Parking nearby was $40 but rideshare dropped us off right near the line to get in.

It gets very loud at the Toyota center with fans constantly cheering and screaming and rooting for their home team. Plus u have the rowdy rudies who are constantly shouting chanting slogans, keeping the fans in the game. The half time show is a lot of fun to watch with different contests going and usually a half court shot. At this game they had a battle of bands. Also there was aerobic show of dunks. They also had the rockets power girls dancing away and putting up a show. Throughout the game, there is constant interaction with the fans and all of it is displayed on the big titan tron tv screens. Also around third quarter, the cheer leaders bring fan gear and souvenirs and throw them in the stands for fans to catch. It's a lot of fun to attend a game and I highly recommend other yelpers to attend. Plus plenty of food and drinks and souvenir shops, make it a worthwhile visit for all the fans. Go rockets!!! #clutchCity

Sit back and watch two innings and then get back in line. I've seen fans who skipped the "and watch 2 innings ". I came to HTX to late to see games in the dome. Since it's opening season I've been and Enron/MinuteMaid/Daikin Park fan. We raised our kids on major League baseball at this stadium. I've got great memories.

While I can say that…read moreI enjoyed my visit, I also have to admit that there weren't necessarily any standout experiences that set this park apart for me on my quest for 30. Does it have its own vibe? Of course... but is there anything about the park that would make me go "Man, I *have* to get back there sometime!"..? Meh. I did have the advantage of spending my time there with a great friend of mine, which made having to watch the Astros (as a Yankees fan) a little less painful. Haha. Since I was only staying a couple blocks away, it was easy for me to the stadium with enough time before the game to walk around all the different levels and see all the different vantage points, which was great. Was a bit disappointed to see so many of the concession stands on the upper seating tiers were closed, but my seat for the game was on the second level and that was fine. Of course, this also means that I didn't have to deal with parking or trying to get out of the city after the game. Back to concessions though, I ended up trying the brisket donuts - available near sections 134 and 409, though, like I said, the concessions in the upper tier were closed. This particular concession is two fried brisket "donuts" drizzled with BBQ sauce and served with homemade mac and cheese. Unfortunately, the mac and cheese was pretty unappetizing. I get it's a staple side dish to barbecue, but I honestly don't think it's needed with the donuts and the mushy texture doesn't do the dish any favors. The brisket donuts themselves are okay. I found them very filling. Would I get them again though? Probably not. I will say, the thing that I WOULD recommend getting here? The margarita from El Tiempo Cantina. There's hype around this margarita for a reason... it's delicious & it definitely helps take the edge off. :) In terms of overall ballpark experience, staff were generally pretty friendly, fans were enthusiastic (which, considering the team was hovering around a .500 record at the time of my visit, is saying something), and the park was pretty clean. There's not really much to do/see outside the park, but home run alley and the walkway through the hall of fame add a bit of character to the inside. Various murals are on display throughout the stadium too and they add a bit of flair. TL;DR Having great company to share my Daikin Park experience with was key to my visit, but I won't complain about the margarita either. Would I return to this ballpark? Meh, I'm not in a rush. There are some interesting parts to the park though... and, of course, having a roof & a/c was a delight. Fairly generic experience otherwise though.

Vibes are chill, beer selection is vast, they have some nice frozen drinks and cocktails as well. There's almost always some sort of event going on so it's a nice place to just stop by and check out if you have some time to chill. I've liked that there are random events and they can be hit or miss. Sometimes there's interesting musical guests, sometimes there are various vendors, sometimes there's a movie night. Regardless, I know I have a pretty good time and will be treated kindly by all the staff.

It's a great spot to hang out with a big group of friends. They have a pretty impressive beer selection, probably 30 to 40 beers on tap, along with cocktails, margaritas, and other drinks. There's also a Luigi's Pizzeria right next door that you can access from the outdoor seating area, and they frequently have pop-up food vendors. When we visited, there was a little taco stand set up as well. The place was absolutely packed when we went because they were hosting some sort of event with vendors and even a best-dressed fairy costume contest. I've been here for other events where they've had mechanical bulls and all sorts of different activities. It seems like there's always something fun going on. The bartenders were friendly, and while there was a bit of a line to get drinks, it wasn't too bad considering how crowded it was. My one complaint is their strange ID and wristband system. Instead of checking IDs when people walk in, staff periodically come around to groups that are already sitting down and hanging out to check IDs and hand out wristbands. I understand they transition to a 21-and-up bar later in the evening, but the system just feels a little awkward and disorganized. Overall, Axelrad is a really fun bar with a great atmosphere, plenty of seating, and a good selection of drinks. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it as a sports bar since there aren't many TVs, but if you're looking for somewhere to hang out with friends, enjoy some drinks, and maybe catch an event, it's a great option. Every time I've been here, it's been a lively and enjoyable experience.
