We've been to Savant quite often and it has been good, but lately has been going down-hill. Last time we were there, I ordered a dinner special, but wanted a different side dish. They wouldn't substitute another side for me. The owner was there talking to many patrons, but he ignored us for some reason. For such an expensive place, you think they could be a little more accommodating. read more

Way overpriced. The food is good but you definitely pay for the fancy names. We were the first ones there that night yet when dessert time came they were surprisingly out of key lime pie. Third time I have eaten dinner here over two visits to the island. Ambiance is nice, although if feels more like I'm in LA than in Christiansted. Food was good, but priced high, especially for the vegetarian dish I ordered. At $28 for a plate of quinoa with vegetables and a few leaves of lettuce on top, I was disappointed. Savant needs to understand that vegetarians need to eat much more than meat eaters to consume the same number of calories. For the price, I thought the dish should have had twice as much food. I doubt we will eat at Savant again. There are other options in town where one can order multiple side orders of vegetables and the menu is lower cost overall. read more

This is hands-down my favorite restaurant on the island. The back patio feels Mediterranean with a Cruzan twist. The wine list is perfectly paired for their entrees and desserts. And wait staff is professional and knowledgeable. Enjoy! read more

The service was terrible. Our waitress acted like we were a burden. The place was empty except for two tables, and she still had to play the game of checking the reservation book. I put off writing this review for quite a while, because ultimately I believe our unsatisfactory experience was the result of an "off night". With that being said, this "off night" was due to poor execution, something that should never occur in a fine dining establishment such as Savant. Living in Houston, I have been fortunate enough to enjoy many exceptional fine dining establishments. So our expectations were quite high to experience Savant. Allow me to elaborate: The evening started on good footing. We were seated promptly at the time of our reservation and were warmly greeted by our server. And here my friends, is where that good foot ends. My husband ordered the burger with pork belly while I ordered the Mahi special with polenta (our server ranted and raved about the polenta). In between our bread service, cocktails, and the actual meal (approximately 45 minutes), our water was refilled only once (despite our futile attempts to request it from the staff). It was clear that our server was stretched thin due to a busy floor and additional tables (possibly due to overbooking) and the kitchen was slammed, which became more apparent when the entrees finally arrived and I bit into a half frozen Mahi fillet. When this was brought to the attention of our server, she promptly apologized and returned my entree to the kitchen (apparently the chef did not take this well). While I waited, dry throat and all, I implored my husband to finish his meal, which he thought was fantastic. Towards the end of hour #2, my mahi arrived, perfectly cooked and quite delicious. Unfortunately, the polenta was quite unremarkable and brought nothing to the dish. The end of the night was concluded with a comp dessert courtesy of out poor bedraggled server who spent the remainder of the evening apologizing and blaming our $200 debacle on that whole "off night" thing. Inside dining room was empty. We had a party of 9 with a reservation for a week and they acted as though we were a nuisance when we arrived and they had to put a table together. They asked us to wait out front. Then once seated the waiter took 15 minutes to greet the table and and another 10 minutes to bring the drinks. We had to beg for service as the only table in the restaurant and the bill was over $700. I ordered the special NY strip which was almost $50 by itself. It came out rare and the entire plate was stone cold. It may be considered island time but I expect better from one of the island's premier restaurants. Save yourself the time and effort. Reserved a table for 4 at Savant on the patio in anticipation of my 40th birthday- the reason for my trip to St. Croix- and while the whole island was wonderful I especially wanted this dinner to be perfect. Happily I was not disappointed! Our server Steven (Stephen?) was the epitome of professionalism- very attentive and patient with us giddy tourists. We enjoyed every available salad, both mahi specials plus the pork tenderloin and one veggie plate. The food was exceptional but I was overjoyed at the leisurely pace of our courses. As a very slow eater I hate feeling rushed. An impatient person may not enjoy this style of dining but I wanted for nothing and was delighted to receive everything. After 2 bottles of Vermintino plus after dinner drinks and some incredible chocolate rum cake almost 3 hours had passed. We left full but not too full, happy with some leftovers to be enjoyed at our resort later. The patio setting was lovely and intimate- you can read that as cramped but the closeness of it made me feel a part of something exclusive. There are plenty of places on the boardwalk to enjoy fish tacos after a day flip-flopping around, but Savant really came through with the level of formality I had hoped for. The service was horrible. Apparently our server was working both the courtyard and dining room, bad combo because the manager wasn't willing to assist on keeping our drinks up. We had a table of 8 so it was expected to be a slower service but no excuse for inattentive, especially when you know you are getting 20%. We got 3 apps, chicken pops, lobster egg rolls, and grilled calamari. The first two were fine. They were fried so hard to mess up. The grilled calamari was overdone and had NO seasoning, very disappointing. The entrees were mixed. The steak Diane were very good as was the stuffed filet. The Asian crusted Mahi special was horrible. The sesame seeds were bitter and the fish was overcooked. The soba noodle nest was tasteless. The bacon wrapped pork chop was nice and big, but the bacon was undercooked and inedible. The Jack Daniels glaze ruined the grits and vegetables. Sage your money and go down the road. read more

Savant is known for their superb dinner specials and casual atmosphere. I have had dinner here on just a few occasions and everyone has always left happy. Large portions with a gourmet flare. The first time I ate here the location was fairly new and tiny so I got seated next to a very touchy feely couple near the kitchen which by the way was only closed off by a curtain so we got constant smoke on us. After that ordeal we returned for a few birthday dinners and we always got the best table in the house towards the back end of the restaurant. They have since expanded and now have a courtyard with tons of seating. You cant go wrong with a little visit to savant. read more

Savant is, by far, one of the best restaurants on St. Croix and definitely a favorite of mine. It's located in a very old historic building in Christiansted so it has that old world feel, taking you back into the Danish times! Being born and raised on the island, I can't tell you how many times I passed by the restaurant and never thought to try it out. On one trip back home, I decided to try it out with my parent on my last night home. The food is fresh and their recipes are very creative. They have a way of putting together these flavors that explode on your taste buds, making you beg for more. Whenever I go to Savant, I always get their arugula or spinach salad. It comes with an island fruit vinaigerette like passion fruit and it is topped with tangerines, goat cheese, slivered almonds and whatever else they decide to throw on it. Their specials are usually what I go with. They change day to day so you never know what you're going to get. My advice is to always go with the lobster dish. It was catched earlier that day by the chef himself and the dish is always a delight. They do different things with the lobster so it varies but I guarantee you that whatever it is, you will love it. Their desserts are very basic, key lime pie, cheesecake, apple pie, etc. There's never anything that truly wows me. They're awesomeness lies in their appetizers and entrees. If they could get some local desserts and create some recipe using guava and pineapple tarts or even a cruzan rum cake and make some kind of ice cream to go with it, it would certainly set them apart and turn my 4 stars into 5! Prices are the norm for the island. An entree would run between $22-35, depending on the meal. Lobster, of course, is more expensive but much cheaper than it would be on the mainland! Take a trip to Savant for an unforgettable experience that your taste buds will thank you for forever! read more

Not sure how one could write a negative review on this place. My girlfriend and I had a fantastic dining experience here - one that would certainly rival any restaurant I have been to stateside. I live in Boston and travel to NYC, Chicago, and SF quite regularly and I would say that Savant would succeed in any of those American cities. The thing that is amazing about Savant is that they do what they do with limited resources. That is, whatever is available locally or what the delivery happens to provide that week is basically what they need to utilize. They can't just run across town or ship it from the next city over if they need something. OK, now with that out of the way, we walked in on a Thursday night (after the open gallery night in the town of Christensted). They were able to find us a cozy table in the small dining area and we had a delicious mixed drink while waiting for our table. The Cruzan Margarita is very nice. The wait staff and bartender were very pleasant and friendly, efficient but not pushy. We split the salad special (with beet chips!) and it was fresh and tasty. Neither of us ordered off the regular menu - we both got items from the specials menu for the entree choices. I chose the Mahi special served on a bed of chorizo hash and the lady had the grilled lobster tail special. The hilarious thing was that the waitress apologized that they only had 2 "small" lobster tails left. Ha! The serving size was plenty big enough for my date and I would certainly not classify it as "small", as it filled most of the plate. A couple glasses of Pinot Grigio accompanied the meals very well and we both had a wonderful meal at Savant. Great romantic spot with amazing food and service of the highest quality. read more

Savant? Even the best make mistakes. Great ambience and high hype for this island establishment. My large chunk mahi was good, served with a spicy berry demi-glaze. The problem here stemmed from the lobster tail my wife ordered. It was rubbery and inedible. Our charming, well-intentioned waiter/bartender did his best to correct the problem, but after bringing the lobster back from the kitchen, it was worse than before. It was even visually unappealing, and my wife has had lobster many times before to know what is proper. The waiter/bartender was apologetic and offered to credit the meal, but apparently after returning from the kitchen a second time, the Chef said, "No Way!", and only offered half credit on a totally inedible, uneaten main course entree. Really enjoyed our dinner at Savant. It was a perfect meal for our party of 6 after Art Thursday in Christiansted. Our table inside was a bit cramped, so make a reservation early for a larger party and request the patio. We had delicious specials - pistachio crusted mahi, panko crusted snapper, blackened mahi egg rolls, sesame crusted tuna. I recommend sticking to the fish specials and you won't be disappointed. The cook had an extremely heavy hand with the HOT wasabi aioli on the otherwise excellent tuna special, but they handled it very professionally and took it off the bill. Five stars for service. We ordered 4 different desserts and all were excellent. The frozen, creamy and tart key lime pie was probably the best I've ever had. The next time we visit, I will be back (probably more than once). read more
