First time at this establishment. Had a very nice dinner with some friends. We ordered a nice vintage wine and to our dismay the red wine was served warm, and had a acid like taste. We brought it to the attention of the waitress and after tasting it she said "tastes great and lots of flavor". To say the least, we returned the wine. She reluctantly brought another bottle and this was at the right temperature and the taste was robust. Now we move on to the food. Food is good, ambiance is terrible. They played the worst Muzak loudly the whole night. Two other tables complained and the server said that it wasn't up to her and that she hated it too. Wahoo was the best I've had on the island. Goat curry was weird and disappointing. Ceviche was better without the sweet potato chips - very untraditional though. I had been wanting to try this place for awhile and was not disappointed when I did! The dining room was so charming and beautiful and I was taken in when we walked in. The food was amazing and very unique. It really felt like an experience eating here. The service level was ok, but everything else was so good I didn't mind. The only thing I thought was odd is that the one bathroom is literally right next to a private dining table. I would hate to get that table and maybe my experience would not have been a five star if I had to eat next to the bathroom. I will be back! read more

My praises to the chef. Everything was delectable from the charbroiled calamari to the entrees and the flourless chocolate tart. I am a gluten free pescatarian and they have an amazing selection for my dietary needs. Everything we ordered had a special taste. The sauces were all perfect. My mom ordered the Wahoo with a red wine mushroom ragu. That was my absolute favorite. I had the Mahi (market fish) with coconut rice and a coconut curry. It was incredible as well. I couldn't try my dad's but he ordered the lobster ravioli. He said the sauce was perfect and the noodles were clearly made from scratch. The atmosphere was divine as well. Best restaurant we went to in St. Croix. Be sure to make a reservation. They did amazing squeezing us in. This is not one to miss. read more

Savant was the first restaurant I visited in St. Croix before moving here in 2005. That was when I realized that the food on this island is top notch. I continue to visit Savant about once a month or so. Savant's menu offers a wide variety of food, from Mexican (fajitas or enchiladas) to Thai (3 stir fries with different curry) to American (steak, etc.) to Caribbean (fresh local fish with delightful spices). My favorites on the menu are the pork egg rolls (or lobster egg rolls if they are available as a special) and any of the Thai curry dishes. Sometimes the egg rolls can be a little on the greasy side, but they're very tasty. The grilled calamari is a treat; it's nice to see something different from the usual breaded, deep-fried rubber bands that other restaurants have. But the specials are usually where the fun is at! If tuna is your thing and it's on the special board, it's almost certain to be phenomenal. The best fresh tuna I've ever eaten was at Savant (order it rare; it's like eating a big piece of sashimi - yum!). Alas, tuna hasn't been running near St. Croix recently, but the fresh Mahi Mahi or Wahoo is also excellent. These fish are often offered with creative and tasty spice combinations, and I highly recommend them. They've got a full bar with a decent wine selection. The red wine is not kept at cellar temperature (no such thing on St. Croix unless you have a cooler), so it can come out a bit warm at times. If Cheryl's working at your bar, ask her to make you a rumrita (pineapple/raspberry is my favorite flavor). Or order one of the St. Croix specialty drinks: a painkiller or Cruzan confusion. If you like coffee after dinner, you're in for a pleasant surprise with Savant's make-your-own coffee contraption. It's cute and memorable, and the coffee is good. As with many restaurants on St. Croix, the atmosphere is totally unique. If you're eating in the air-conditioned front dining room, you'll have a totally different experience from the open-air back room. In the front, you'll find a cozy, eclectic room with great photos on the walls and a busy atmosphere. In the back, you'll eat in beautifully-restored ruins, with benches built into the walls, unique stone-top tables, tropical plants, and a great view of the starry sky. (If it rains, they have a tarp they can pull over within seconds.) Parking is easy; they are one of the few restaurants in Christiansted to have their own parking lot. It's a little tricky to get in the narrow driveway, and be careful coming out! read more

Overall, my favorite restaurant on the island. Easy to overlook as it's small and not well-signed. Close to downtown but don't look for any hospitals nearby, in spite of the street name. The menu is quite varied, offering Thai, Vietnamese, Mexican, Caribbean and American cuisine. But don't look for large selections of each. Their house merlot is usually quite good although it does change from time to time. The main seating area is rather small and there is a bar at the front entrance. As a result, cigarette smoke can sometimes be a problem. Additional tables are available in the rear with open-air seating. As seating is limited reservations are a very good idea. If the "front" is full the "back" section may have tables open. The owner's name is Tom and he marches to a different drummer. Not unusual at all for those of us who migrated here. read more

We went for our anniversary dinner and Savant is just the right place for such a romantic event. We chose to sit inside and it was very comfortable with the AC this time of year. We had the Lollipop Chicken and Wahoo Egg Roles as appetizers. The Egg Roles might have been the winner of the evening. Delicious! Our entrees were also very good. My wife had the Mahi special and I went with a bacon wrapped filet. Medium rare, just like I ordered. The price was reasonable and the service was very good, not a given here on St. Croix. Savant is a true fusion fine dining restaurant, serving its own unique version of a number of dishes from around the globe, with creative daily specials that focus on today's market haul. They have a relatively vast repertoire on the menu and dial it up yet another notch with a specials board you'll want to read twice. So stop by the bar on your way in and peruse them before you head to your table! They have an air conditioned front room with a dark cozy bar, and a romantic back courtyard featuring tiki torches, built in seating and a spacious bar nestled among historic ruins. We all have our unique cravings and comfort foods, and for me Savant covers quite a few bases. Their smoky, grilled calamari takes me dockside in Santorini; both the chicken satay appetizer and the dial-it-up-or-down curry plate is, shy a few hardboiled eggs, a trip to a roadside place near the airport in Kuala Lumpur. There are Mexican-inspired dishes, Asian treats, root beer short ribs, incredible fresh salads, bacon-wrapped delights... It's a conglomeration of the owner's favorite dishes. The chefs in the kitchen here exercise a high degree of creativity. They purchase fresh fish from local fishermen and lots of local produce. You'll see those prominently figured in the specials, and they really are incredible. I still recall months ago feasting on wahoo with Brie in a puff pastry shell with a jalepeño sauce over a bed of microgreens. Another time the chef combined fresh tuna with roasted watermelon. The fish is always perfect for me when I order medium rare. The sauces and sides are always unexpected and delicious. Risottos, mashed potatoes, fresh veg. I can't speak personally for the quality of the wine list, but friends and family I take with me to Savant seem very pleased with their selection. Service here is always welcoming, friendly and low-key. Special requests are no problem. The only place where my global journey falls short, for me, is with the desserts at Savant. With the exception of seasonal desserts like jackfruit ice cream, the pies and cheesecakes seem to have their roots firmly planted in the Midwest. Now, the Samoa-Girl Scout Cookie-inspired cream pie we ate there the other night WAS divine and memorable; but many times I find the desserts a little too sweet for my taste and am not intrigued enough by the somewhat mainstream choices to order. Savant is a wonderful gem in the heart of St. Croix. My husband and I dined here during our honeymoon, and had a fabulous time. We opted to dine inside because we didn't want mosquitoes to interfere with the dining experience. We are so glad we did. The dim lighting makes it an ideal place for a romantic dinner, or even a nice dinner out with friends. Our waitress was very friendly throughout our entire dinner. She was also very knowledgeable about the menu, which is always a great sign. I had the Rack of Lamb Special. It was phenomenal. It was served with a Molasses Sauce, so it was on the sweeter side, and paired with Horseradish Mashed Potatoes and Steamed Vegetables. I'm not a big fan of Horseradish, so I requested regular Mashed Potatoes instead. I was so relieved that they were so accommodating. My husband got the Prosciutto Wrapped Mahi, and it was also delicious. We also shared a bottle of Catena Malbec, which complemented each of our dishes beautifully. We ended the dinner with a refreshing Key Lime Pie. I would highly recommend trying anything off the Specials Menu. You can't go wrong! Savant, we love you, and we can't wait to come back! read more

Did not expect to have the best lamb chops I have ever had in St. Croix but welcomed the surprise! Cool place that attracts a diverse crowd every night--definitely recommend reservations as we were lucky to find seats at the outside bar (I would recommend seating outside as the atmosphere is worth it). Staff was friendly but not "over" attentive. I would recommend the Savantarita cocktail to get the meal started. I had the lamb chops with marsala/molasses reduction, horseradish mashed potatoes, and asparagus while my wife had the linguine with shrimp in a very unique red sauce--both were specials that did not disappoint. read more

I like savant............pero (but) I find the menu too be kinda weird its like Mexican menu and Asian menu and Fine Dining menu and Sports Bar menu and Fusion Menu had a orgy and no one knows who the father is. You can get fajitas you can get Vietnamese spring rolls you can ribs then you can get competent fine dining items.....Like a pretty damn good rack of lamb or local fish. The wine selection is copious. A full bar well stocked bar. The space is very nice. Bordering on upscale. Rude waitress. We stood at the entrance waiting for someone to come seat us. There were only two tables seated in the entire restaurant. We had reservations. I decided to walk in and look for someone.. we were met by a very angry and rude waitress. Luckily we ended up with the other server. He was much kinder. You would think a restaurant that is likely losing money during covid would be happy to have customers and treat them better. the food was ok. Small portions for the price. I had the stuffed filet, my wife had the blackened shrimp. Definitely not a place for kids, they didn't exactly make them feel welcomed. Food is absolutely amazing. The low rating is because of the bad service and indoor environment. The 1 server they have is an older lady who can not keep up with 6 tables they have. She was incredibly slow to even offer water to the table, let alone take drink orders. My table witnessed her serve 3 of 4 people at a table and leave the other woman's meal in the kitchen while she went to do something else. Everyone waited to eat until she was served and were visibly irritated after a few minutes. Lucky for us our table could see into the kitchen as the door swung open and closed when entered. Another table was obnoxiously loud and drunk. They even asked the manager if they were too loud and he said no. If he had said yes the rating would have went up. But to not care for the rest of the restaurant is unacceptable. They seemed to have been from a local office and come in occasionally. Still no reason for them to ruin the ambiance and management allow it. The food is worth every penny, but it's not worth having to put up with bad service and environment. Came here for our honeymoon dinner after having reserved a couple of weeks in advance. 5 stars! We were seated on the patio in the best seat for 2. We didn't even look at the menu because the specials were just too good. They had just received a yellowfin tuna that day, so we basically ate from that. Tuna tartare and ceviche appetizers. She had the local lobster tail for entrée. Not only was her opinion of lobster changed (the one time she tried lobster before, she hated it) but the plating presentation was a work of art. I had the sesame encrusted tuna, cooked rare. It melted in my mouth. It came with some kind of watercress based salad with carrots and onions that was dressed lightly and complimented the dish perfectly. The staff and owner made us feel special, bringing us complimentary champagne and good conversation. If you are looking for an extra special dinner using locally sourced, fresh foods, don't pass this place up. read more

This may be my new favorite restaurant on St. Croix! I am in love with the outdoor patio/bar area! From the old stone walls covered in vines and plants, to the twinkling white lights in the trees- it's perhaps one of the most romantic places to dine on this island! The food was amazing! I tried the mahi fish special with papaya rice and vegetables. He had the filet mignon. We finished the night with a pumpkin banana cheesecake that was to die for. The coffee was an 'experience'~they serve you a pot of hot water for you to pour over a coffee pouch suspended over your mug. You can expect to spend a pretty penny but the service, setting, and delicious food make it well worth it! Parking is excellent and plentiful. Reservations recommended! GO TO SAVANT! read more

This place is amazing. There are so many different and unique combinations of food and drinks - we truly had a blast. We were able to make a last minute reservation inside but the patio looked a lot more fun. Here's what I tried: Mahi ceviche - it was very tasty and just what you'd expect . I liked but didn't love because our table had two orders of Lobster egg rolls - these are awesome. Lots of lobster, lots of flavor - we didn't believe our waitress when she told us how big they are. Totally mmmmmm I had two hibiscus martinis - they tasted great. I also tried their "boobs" martini which was a citrus - grapefruit flavor. It was delicious For your entrees stick to the daily specials. They have wonderful flavor combinations. Two of us ordered the mushroom crab encrusted mahi. Again very flavorful. 5 for the food. 5 for the wait staff. 5 for the patio and 4 for the inside . Make a reservation in advance so you can sit at the patio . Also the prices are a little steep even for st croix but crack the piggy bank open and spend it wisely at Savant. read more

An island spot getting five stars HAS to be something really special, you cannot come to this island w/o a visit here, its actually illegal in island code (should be at least) Takes reservations, so take note and call ahead, open Mondays which I found many places are not. Has a quaint private but very cozy garden with candles in the walls and overhanging tree all lite up, small is the word at this combined outdoor bar and patio but once we saw this we never went inside. The fish choices were plentiful and made with an amazing array of ingredients, Pico and Mahi, Gorgonzola, Beet chips (sounds no but was a huge yes), bacon wrapped pork cut with cheese grits and a bourbon glaze. There was not only an amazing choice of menu items but 6 specials, 6 locally made amazing desserts, 2 different rum cakes, curzan made key lime, toasted coconut and pecan pie with ice cream and caramel and chocolate sauce, very friendly staff and did I mention the long list of specials? Each made very differently. This has some real tough choices to only visit, save up you may need to come here several times! (Casual dress but people were putting on very nice shirts with shorts, what else its the islands!) EDIT Visit #2 was not nearly as good as visit #1, so they lost 1 star and it appears there is a definite difference on the night you choose to go here. On our second try they had very different bread, and it was not good. By the time of our 8 PM dinner res they were also missing 4 dessert selections and 3 main dinner specials. Our dinner choices were again very well prepared, however not as amazingly outstanding as the night before. With multiple apologies our server tried to make up but such failure of inventory on a Friday night seems a little shortsighted. Our drinks were still great, but even some choices like a salad were served differently than 3 nights previously, including the taste of the dressing and it was the same menu choice. After seeing the reviews decided to visit the restaurant. WOW WHAT A MISTAKE !!! Ordered the Mahi Mahi it first took 1:35 minutes from ordering it to receiving it. The food was cold, the fish was under cooked and my $15 soup looked like it had dirt in it. After approaching the waitress which by the way were 2 woman, they both had the worst attitude ever and literally gave you the could care less attitude look. and they could care less because they did nothing about the under cooked fish. at the end we went to pay the bill and because there was a party of 20 people there they charged us a 20% tip for their attitude. I would never return to this place and do not recommend anyone else to go. I heard from the locals that the place has been deteriorating day by day and I cant tell. This is definitely not a 4 star restaurant. I will be in the Island 40 more week and I guarantee you will not recommend this place to any of our 1100 employees. I had an $80 nightmare dinner that took 2 hours to get under cooked food.STAY AWAY trust me.... read more
