Olde Town Arvada is way off my usual stomping grounds, so although I had read quite a bit about…read morethis shop over the years, I had never visited. We finally decided to check out the shopping and dining district. Rheinlander was our final (and best!) stop.
The bakery dates back to 1963 and is now on the third generation of ownership. The quality is certainly being maintained at a high level. This is a traditional, German bakery with a huge variety of authentic European cakes, cupcakes, sweet and savory pastries, pies, cookies, coffee cakes, and the only reason I think a German bakery should exist--strudel!
Strudels are available whole, half, or by the slice. The usual flavors are apple, cherry, blueberry cream cheese, cherry cream cheese, and Boston cream. We bought slices of the apple, cherry, and blueberry cream cheese. These were perfection and absolutely delightful.
I was totally focused on the strudel case (yes, there's a lot of strudel on offer), but I believe there are eight huge cases of treats, each one looking more enticing than the next. Quite a few gluten-free, sugar-free, and dairy-free options are available, so if that's what you need, this is the place for you.
The bakery was moderately busy during our visit. There was plenty of staff and they were all friendly, helpful, and very efficient, so purchases moved swiftly. Lots of coffee and drink options are available. There's nice outside seating if you can't wait to take your goodies home.
It's a long drive for us, but we were really impressed and we'll find a reason to visit Arvada so we can stop back soon. Yum.
