This was a nice detour and I found a great sandwich shop at Filoncino…read more I was in Jersey last week and I want to grab a lunch before heading back to New York. I found Filoncino (thanks Yelp) in Staten Island right off the exit. I pulled in and saw Filoncino has plenty of available parking. Once inside, I see the restaurant is actually split with 1/2 sit down wait service and 1/2 take out with a few tables to eat your sandwich. The menu choices were pretty substantial, I was going for a hot chicken cutlet but the imported prosciutto sandwich was calling my name. This sandwich was a true banger: fresh mutz, peppers and prosciutto on freshly made Italian bread. Trust me, you're not getting this caliber of sandwich in Boca Raton! This a tried and true New York Italian sandwich. Filoncino, it was a pleasure to dine at your restaurant.

The store was very spacious with a few tables and seats. Ordering the sandwiches went smoothly. So the Philly was pretty decent, I would order it again. But I was not fond of the cuban. We thought the meat was a bit on the dryer side and also it's lacking some flavor. So i would skip the cuban next tome and I probably need to try more of their sandwiches.

When I posted a photo of him on Facebook, I received so many comments asking whether I had tried it and telling me that they make the best sandwiches. Naturally, I was intrigued! Now, we're hooked. Our favorites are the Panino Golfetta, The Godfather, the AGV, The Anthony's, and the Panino Mortadella. The ingredients in each sandwich are so thoughtfully selected, and every combination works perfectly together. The sandwiches are also enormous. I compare getting Anthony's to Christmas morning. When we order it the night before, I actually look forward to waking up because I know there will be leftover sandwiches waiting for me in the refrigerator. There is nothing better than opening the fridge the next morning and finding Anthony's ready to enjoy again.

I wish I could say the same about this location. I understand that this concept is express, so everything might be made faster, but definitely everything is for pick up, no dining. But the way the paninis are made are very messy and shows lack of effort in presentation and taste. Sun dried tomatoes are just slapped on in the center, not spread out. Paninis are under toasted, without a crunch. Customer service is okay. Friendly employees. However, on one occasion, either the person handling the phone got my order wrong, or the one making it, but my panini had eggplants in it when the menu doesn't say there are eggplants. Iced latte was incredibly disappointing, tasteless and watered down. Extra $0.50 for syrup. P20: 4/5 P24: 1/5 P25: 2/5 Iced latte: 1/5 I highly advise against ordering an hour before closing because their work gets sloppier. The salad I got had arugula, two burrata balls, avocado, fire roasted bell peppers, and balsamic glaze. I'd definitely get this again! The panini was also really good - it has mozzarella, pesto, tomatoes, and a good amount of prosciutto. The size is perfect for me (not as big as Filocinos). I've gotten the chicken panini with goat cheese but found that combo to be a bit dry so I recommend anything with mozzarella and a protein that's not chicken. The parking lot is really small so I recommend delivery or walking to pick up, if possible. Not pictured here but I like their Iced Coffee as well!
