Went to this place after getting off the road all the way from Westchester with my elderly mother…read morebecause she wanted eggplant Parmesan and she had eaten from this place before when a relative was staying at a hospital rehabilitation center nearby and remembered the food being good, so we went to have some lunch. We were seated in the outdoor area, which is nice on a humid day as You can get a decent breeze. 99% of the people who were there were just enjoying their their food and socializing, We decided to sit at a table near a window for whatever reason there was a gentleman at this table who decided that it was okay for him to vape while he was sitting down instead of exiting the restaurant. Not only did he decide that it was okay to vape, he decided that it was okay to blow his vapors onto my mother's head and engulf us in his gaping experience. Instead of noticing (full time hostess in the immediate area), automatically reseating us, apologizing and telling the man that is NOT okay to vape in the restaurant I had to flag a server down and let them know that we wanted a different table. Pretty good service but I really thought that that was a gross oversight on part of the restaurant like indoor smoking is illegal in the first place and vaping really isn't any better (arguably worse depending on what scientific data you're looking at), plenty people have respiratory issues and just preference period. No one should be forced to sit anywhere where a no vaping policy isn't being enforced in 2026. Really disappointed that I can't give this place a higher than a three star rating as a result because the food is pretty good and the servers were quick and pleasant, but the smoking issue to me is a gross oversight as far as basic customer service goes. People shouldn't be made to feel like they're being weird for wanting a different table because they don't want to be surrounded by anything but oxygen, Do better folks. Tried to call and speak with a manager BEFORE leaving this review, was left on hold for close to 10 mins however manager was extremely apologetic and pretty appalled he personally stated that vaping IS against their policy and that the staff should have absolutely been enforcing that. Welp, that's what complaints are for right? Food is decent and staff is respectful but I don't know if I'd go back given that experience if I have alternative choices in the area just trying to enjoy some lunch, drama and discomfort is not necessary indoor vaping is outlawed for a reason people violating that shouldn't get to just go about their day with zero consequences while everyone else is annoyed or having their lung / cardiovascular health put at risk involuntarily. YMMV

The bread? The meat? The condiments? The sauce.. gravy, francese, red sauce? The originality? What happens if you find all of the above in one shop? And where would you find it? Answer: Charlie's Sandwich Shop I am a long time resident of Bay Ridge and this is THE FIRST time I have tried a sandwich here. Mind you, my friends have raved about it. The shop is a gem and the options are plentiful. Every sandwich offered sounds delicious and there are weekly specials like Shrimp Parmigiana and Chicken Francese. I decided to go with the "How You Doing" sammy which consists of fried chicken cutlets, roasted peppers and fresh mozzarella on a toasted hero bread. The preparation took around ten minutes but the wait was worth it. The craftsman who prepared it handed it to me and said " Now here's a sandwich and it is going to take a bit to finish".* I replied " Yeah, a whole week"! Lol! I love the charm of the place; there are little gems, statues, pictures, menus adorning walls, counter and behind the scenes. Charlie's Sandwich Shop in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn is owned by Charlie Bellomo along with his father, Salvatore Bellomo. This duo are serving "grand slams" sandwich style. I see many sandwiches in my future not just for me. How you doin? Just fine after tasting this delicious work of art! * take a look at my sandwich pic, tell me it is not the size of a boat? I had a 1/3 of it and saved the rest for future meal.

They're known amongst my family for bringing out this ENORMOUS bread that seems larger than anyone can eat but you're surprised not only by the fact that it's hollow inside but also how quickly it disappears when you're enjoying the fabulous meze platter (a variety of dips that you can enjoy). My grandma got the lamb shish kabob (which was huge) and my boyfriend got the lamb adana. I got the mixed grill. Everything tasted delicious and we were very full with still more food to take home after we ate our fill. The portions are large and the staff is friendly and attentive. Our waitress came by a couple times to check on us and staff was quick to take away plates we were finished with and wipe down the table in between so we didn't have crumbs everywhere after the bread course. The interior of this place is also really lovely. They decorated for Valentine's Day and also put on the Olympics on TV, though none of the seasonal decor nor entertainment felt like it overpowered the cozy atmosphere of this place. My favorite part of it is that the seating feels incredibly cozy because you can sit in a nook with beautifully designed cushions arranged around the bench for comfort and style.
