And they brought seconds, thirds and more if you wanted (meat only). Outside, it was pleasant enough. Inside, like an American dive bar - not an appealing atmosphere from my perspective. But the real issue is that these greasy ribs were a gut-bomb. Yes, you got exactly what you ordered -- but in the end, save this for when you're at home in the states and the ribs are better quality. These were ok, but pigging out on greasy ribs of middling quality really isn't that great an experience, is it? Ok.. been in Amsterdam 5 days. To be honest, the customer service has been fair... BUT TODAY... was the worst ever!! Went to this "cafe" to watch the NBA Christmas games. The server was so clueless that even though Sangria was on the menu... she had no idea what we were talking about and kept having to ask the bartender( will discuss her later ). After numerous reminders, and her asking us to close out every time we placed an order... again... came here to watch at least 2 NBA games... we decided to order food. Nothing difficult... an order of chicken tenders and sweet potato fries. After an extended amount of time... the tenders arrived... and we were told the fries were right behind... Well, think you can guess... 25 minutes later.. NO FRIES! When we asked... we were told that there was an error with the order and the fries would be out soon. Wait for it......... 10 minutes later... no fries! But then, we see fries .. and the guy comes out, and gives it to the group that just paid their bill and were getting ready to leave( they took them of course) !! Is this joke? We ask him if they are ours, and the bartender informs him that they are. At this point, there has just been too many negatives, so I decided to approach the bartender(Fatima). Yeah, I know you may think she would be apologetic, trying to right the insane amount of wrongs..... NOT!! I told her that at this point, at the VERY least, she should not charge us for this fries.. given the numerous errors and that it took over 35 minutes for the fries to make it to our general area..lol.. and if we hadn't said anything... that group would have walked out with them. Fatima tries to explain this and that.. but in the end.. chalked it up to training new people. When I asked if that was my fault, she HAD THE NERVE to respond, "is it my fault"? After having dinner nearby, we decided to have dessert here and we were confused because there was a big neon sign that says "Pancake Corner" and it didn't look like a pancake house. One of the restaurant hawks told us it's Pancake Corner/ Satellite Sports. Ok, strange. What I like about this place is they have lots of flat screens with different sports on. MMA, futbol, tennis, etc. Nope, no basketball tonight since it would've been early morning in the States. We thought about getting Dutch pancakes but we were told we are not allowed to share. Well let me start by saying if you are going to watch any type of sport when you are traveling you can probably find it here. I however, am not an avid sports lover so I am basing this on the food. Being a bar and a place where bar snacks should shine, I ordered a few of the staples nachos and cheese fries. For those who are reading this... don't. The nachos definitely had some Dutch flare. As an American I was not prepared for green olives on my dish. Now this was neither gross or good... just weird to me. I've been coming to this sports bar for around 15 years as it's right on the main Leidseplein square and is always a place you can be guaranteed will have the big sports matches on. It has no frills but it does have fairly low priced drinks and food (a pint of Heini last night was 5 euros which is pretty cheap in tourist areas in Amsterdam) I really enjoyed watching the England match while my Austrian buddy (Shout out to Andreas R) watched his team and Olli E watched the tennis. In fact our conversation was a little screwed up as we were all sat at the bar together and from here all were watching different games. Thumbs up! After a few visits over the past months, it is time for an updated review. Here again with work colleagues to catch an overseas NFL Football game on, enjoy some brews and the good ribs. We were seated right away in a packed house and treated with friendly prompt service & a good view of our game. There are plenty of good eats on the menu, but hard to pass up the ribs in the evening. I, as much as anyone, can be skeptical of anything that is marketed as "all u can eat". That's usually code for sacrificing quality for quantity. Not here. The rib meat is grilled just right, tender, flavorful, moist and falls off the bone easily. Also nice is that it is not swimming in sauce. There's just enough to enhance the flavor, but not so much that all you taste is the sauce. Two choices on the sauce by the way: BBQ or Garlic. Both are good, but I tend to prefer the garlic. You can get both for €0.50 or if you're with another you could both try one each and share. Of course, you don't have to eat a lot to be happy. One rack will do me just fine. If you want more...then it's there, but don't be put off by the 'all u can eat' banner. Good choice of games on the TV and usually all are in good view. You may have to (or try) to sit where you can view the game of choice. read more

The staff blatantly lied to us that we needed to pay for the "BTW" cost line which is something like a tax in the Netherlands, but this was not true. We realised that this BTW cost is already factored into the total cost, based on our later experiences at other restaurants in Amsterdam where we were NEVER asked to pay extra for that BTW cost line. This place doesn't look worthy because it looks like the run of the mill sports bar. But that's actually the great thing about it, it is! It is one of the very few places around Leidseplein open before 10am. The inside has a bar atmosphere with low lighting and polished wood decor. On the wall are all the televisions, hence the Satellite part of it's name, the televisions play sports, hence Sportscafe of the name. I don't know why anyone would go in and expect anything else. One of the cheap frills like many of the restaurants around the touristy part of Amsterdam is the All You Can Eat Spare-Ribs with sides, in this case fries and salad. I find the whole All You Can Eat Spare-Ribs so amusing because I had already fallen for this chewy, chunky, lackluster type of meat before but I was hungry and it was available in the morning. So I get an order of that, the Spare-Ribs, pancakes and a beer. The waiter warned me that it will be alot of food but I didn't care, hunger sometimes over takes logic in ordering food. I already mentioned the ribs. The beer was a bottle of Heineken served with a glass cup. The pancake was not by any means the normal stacked fluffy bread like consistency layers of American style pancake, 6-7" in diameter, think honey dew cut in half. No, pancakes in Amsterdam are a single layer pancake, a little more on the crepe side, less fluffy but a wide 1 feet diameter, think center of a big water melon cut in half. My pancake had bananas incorporated into it and served with a tiny cube of butter, powdered sugar and maple syrup. It was awesome and filling, so much so that it was hard to put down the entire rack of ribs, All You Can Eat, I think not, one did it on this occasion, normally maybe seconds. Well, it is true that they are baby back ribs which is a super deal. And your first serving is a double rack-plenty. You also get a large portion of potatoes, but a sloppy, wimpy salad :( Ribs were very good, not the best. I would definitely head there again for ribs. Went here this past Sunday to eat dinner and watch the NFL games, something that they advertise on their website. Was told I needed to wait for my whole party before being seated in the restaurant that was just over 50% full. When my 3 friends arrived, we asked to be seated and the waitress asked if everyone was eating or not. Only myself and one other person planned to, and she told us we couldn't be seated unless everyone was eating. "What if everyone is drinking and only two of us are eating?" No, she said sternly. The other two people I was with said they would order some appetizers then, so I suggested this to the waitress. "No, I won't seat you unless everyone orders a full meal." I looked at her, asked if she was serious, and she again sternly replied Yes, she was serious. The whole place was JUST OVER HALF FULL, with plenty of open tables. I asked if I was in an episode of the Twilight zone, and she didn't take very kindly to that. I thought about staying a few extra minutes to explain to her the math of running a bar/restaurant, and how margins on alcohol are significantly larger than that of food, but it wasn't worth my time. There's also a very creepy short guy that stands out front of the restaurant that acts as "security." He just walks around the place scowling at people. Seriously. We decided to leave and went to Coco's instead, where we were treated incredibly well by nice waitresses in a semi full bar/restaurant, and were able to watch Chicago Bears play. Seriously this place is awful. I had been a couple times before and ate horrible food because I could drink cheap beer and watch NFL games on a Sunday night. Super cheap, good food, cheap mini shots, but their cocktails were pretty bad (a cosmopolitan is not supposed to be a cranberry vodka). Free bathrooms too. The two blonde waitresses who served us on Wednesday were super nice, especially the one with the wavy hair (without the glasses). Loved her! We came back 4 times throughout the day for more drinks and food. Thursday was a different story. We showed up after we checked out of our hotel and didn't see the familiar staff who had served us all day before, but we headed to the front door and saw a brown-haired waitress headed toward us, carrying a small pizza. I smiled at her, and not only did she not smile back, but had a rather sour expression on her face. Then, as we reached the door at the exact same moment (she was heading out while we were heading in), she made an exasperated "TSK" noise, as if we were in her way. I was truly shocked. We literally turned on our heels and left. We came back later when we saw a waiter serving the outside patio area so we wouldn't have to deal with her (he was nice).
