I decided to swing by Sven today when I was out on another Berkeley errand. I found parking close by and rang the doorbell and was let in by a youngish woman and greeted by her friendly dog. I showed her my purse and told her I needed a new one. She led me to the place where they were, in three different colors, assuring me they could make it in a different color if I wanted. I had already decided I wanted a darker color and the one in back was it. At first I thought it was black but she told me it was dark brown. Just as good. The bag was rung up by another, older woman (but younger than me) whose name was Susan and who turned out to be the owner of the store and the mother of the woman who let me in. We had a lovely chat and it embodies why I prefer shopping locally rather than at anonymous department stores where the goods carry no personal connection to the person selling them or to me. I look forward to using my new purse for many more years. I have already transferred everything from the old one to the new one, which looks very attractive and feels comfortably familiar.

10/22/2024: Fast forward from 2006 after purchasing a custom-made, leather backpack I commissioned…read moreSven's Owner's Daughter, Liza creating which I directed the design I wanted and tailored for globetrotting around the Planet, the backpack's main compartment zipper finally split! Welp~I called Sven inquiring replacing the backpack's zipper; however, to my utter dismay and severely disappointed, Sven will NOT replace the zipper. Instead, the Sven Customer Service's suggestion was taking the backpack to a Shoe Repair in Berkeley CA replacing the zipper which left me utterly taken aback and ruefully surprised, i.e., thus--a star was removed from my updated, 2024 YELP! Review! Still, the goat skin leather backpack has held its value according to Slavik, the Owner of Roseville Shoe Repair who replaced the backpack's main compartment zipper with a high-quality, metal zipper which I supplied Slavik the metal zipper and metal pull tabs. In addition, Slavik repaired the backpack's main compartment's interior, polyester lining which ripped sewing goat skin leather, lining replacement reinforcements, installed new leather pull tabs for the front compartment zipper, and the backpack's main compartment zipper pull tabs as well. Slavik also stated the leather used creating my backpack is goat skin which today, is quite costly if, I were to commission Sven creating another leather backpack, i.e., costing about $600.00 by today's present time. In fact, when I perused Sven's URL, Sven doesn't have the backpack design I created for my globetrotting needs! Indeed, I designed a unique, leather backpack NOBODY owns, i.e., which I'm so happy I commissioned Sven creating: Double pull tabs for the backpack's main compartment, double pull tabs for the front compartment, the backpack's strap can be utilized as a sling or utilized as a traditional backpack, a newly installed 2024 metal zipper for the main compartment, two exterior side pockets, goat skin leather interior lining, an interior zipper pocket, and an RFID storage compartment comprising the integrity, longevity, and retaining its high value! Overall and despite, Sven not replacing the backpack's main compartment zipper, I'm truly happy I had commissioned Sven's Daughter, Liza creating a goat skin leather backpack NOBODY owns! Hmmm~Maybe I should patent and copyright my design, eh, Sven? Lol!

Delightful pen cases handmade in a small shop in SFCA. I came across these by "accident" ( read::…read moredivine intervention) when buying a Retro 51. I was so very much in love with my pen case, which has served me to this day. As II expanded my Retro 51 collection, i learned about the large variety if designs Rickshaw Bagworks ( I call them RB) offers in a plethora of sizes and variations. The cases are so well-made. When i ordered off the website, RB delivered my order almost faster than the speed of light.. These cases are durable, gorgeous, calming, whimsical,, charming, sublime, creative,, fun, amusing. Some ate made for more gentle palates. The cases fit most pens if you order the right size.. Customer service, to put it blunty, is way beyond fast, efficjent, effective, helpful, kind. I wouldn't say i have exactly an addictive personality, but these pen cases would be a glaring exception to that " state of denial" as I can't seem to help myself from purchasing more and more. I adore these so much.

The…read moremessenger bag, which they call a Banzai Bag, has Big Foot on it and the field bag has a small dragon on the front and a big dragon on the back. They arrived within a few days of ordering and both bags look great. I think the recipients are going to love them. The dragon field bag is meant to hold artist supplies for occasions when the artist is out in the field. I'm going to fill it up with fun supplies before giving it as a gift. The Banzai Bag is for a Big Foot lover in my life. Both bags are on the small side and come with detachable crossbody straps. Rickshaw Bagworks is located in San Francisco. They have a factory there, and maybe a retail store (I'm not sure). I'll keep my eye on what they have to offer on their website and probably purchase more bags in the future.

Mission Workshop does not honor their "Lifetime Warranty" at all. We purchased 2 The Shed sling…read morebags, and the modular backpack. Over several years of use, we tagged their brand on social media, talked them up to clothing designers, models and entrepreneurs in the Los Angeles area, and acted as informal brand ambassadors. Over several years, both sling bags developed tears, lost waterproofness, and the modular backpack showed signs of extreme sun damage. When contacted for warranty repairs, Mission Workshop cited the age of the bags, and stated it was time to purchase new ones at full retail MSRP. The "Lifetime Warranty" does not cover their bags after several years. For the waterproofness, we were told to purchase Nilwax and treat the bags with holes in them. We were shocked a new offshoot of Chrome would advertise this deceptively.

I picked up the Discover Pack and it is so, so spacious. I can fit almost twice the content than my MW. And the best part...super lightweight and doesn't generate a consistent layer of perspiration when wearing. I ride my bike everywhere which given the warm weather lately and rolling hills it can tend to build up a sweat. The anti-perspiration aspect has been so clutch it's now replaced my Mission Workshop altogether in my M-F work commute. And the pack has a laptop sleeve which made the decision easy. Great brick and mortar shop, Paz is super consultative and helpful. Only problem is you might have trouble deciding which design to go with as each pack is 100% unique.

I saw a little bag that was - I think - meant for storing cables or other nicknacks, but I looked at it and thought it would be perfect as a toiletry bag...after all, the material is light, yet water resistant and easily cleanable. The other unique fact about this store is that there's not really a sales person: everyone seems to be actually working on making these bags and whenever someone walks in to buy something, one of them will get up from the sewing machine and help out. Things are a bit pricey but they did offer some deals. I did like the quality of their sweaters and sweatshirts. They did have a deal on their keychains. Three for $14.95. The store clerk helped me with a specific styler I was looking. Customer service was great here.
