Hands down - this place consistently has my great vintage finds (currently tied with Relove in Nob Hill, but this place definitely has more unique pieces). I make an effort to come at least once a month to check out what they have in store. I love that they post frequently on instagram (@vacations4sale) and allow easy online purchase for the items they post. Makes it super simple (dangerously simple) to get awesome pieces on the daily. I will warn folks - it won't have the warm fuzzy feels you get from your classic retail places (or the consistent go-out-of-their-way-to-suggest-pieces vibe you get from the staff at Relove), but their stuff is just so freaking good they could insult me the whole time and I would still come back. Now that I no longer live full time in SF, I see this shop becoming my #1 with the ability to buy and ship items to my new place outside of the city. Also, if you are looking to get fitted for some vintage denim, the woman who was there when I went a couple visits ago (blonde hair, clear framed glasses) hooked me up and pulled some great pieces for me from the daunting wall of denim. Really great selection and lots of really cool finds. One of the workers in the shop was super accommodating and helpful. However, after another worker checked out my items, I walked out of the store I realized a totally different shirt had been put into my bag and my jacket was left out. I'm honestly unsure of how this can happen especially because while you're checking out, they write down each specific item you buy. Not a big deal because I had noticed as soon as I walked out of the store, but it did still rub me the wrong way especially since that would've been $48 dollars gone for nothing. This place is a hidden treasure! I came across this store since it was eating next door at Turtle Tower and came in looking for some unique pieces for Coachella. Although I was not able to find anything that fit me, I would definitely come back again! I was amazed by their prices. Usually, consignment store prices run high. I found this faux leather/suede fringe top for $24! I definitely would have bought that if it fit my chest area. I think the top was made for bigger chested girls. I also found this pink palm leaves printed pants. They were super cute but it was too small for me. I am hopeful that shopping with them in person is a much better experience - but shopping via their online platform was a bust. I placed an order via DM and was sent an invoice. I paid said invoice and accidentally didn't update my address. My bad. Contacted them and we agreed that they would change it to correct address. The shoes did not shop out for a while and when they (after contacting them and asking for update) shipped to old address. When I was finally able to track the shoes down - I put them on and they were three sizes bigger than what they had said they were. Going to pass on shopping with them altogether. Hands down one of the best vintage stores I've ever been to. There's always something for everyone here, from Victorian stuff that's 100 years old to 70's Levis to 80's concert t-shirts to 90's windbreakers. Prices are totally reasonable compared to other curated vintage shops. They are also skilled at fitting if you need a pair of jeans that make your booty pop. I really love the concept of this store, and I'm a loyal follower on Instagram. I have purchased multiple items in store and online, but wanted to share my recent experience going in. I planned to pick up some of my online purchases, but figured I'd bring along clothing I'd recently cleaned out to see if they might want to purchase it. I recognize now it was my bad to not do more research on the specific eras of clothing that they're interested in. I entered and asked one of the employees if they were accepting used clothing, and would be willing to take a look at my bag. The employee said "Uhhhhh...." and left a pause that felt like an eternity, making me feel pretty uncomfortable. Having attempted to sell clothes elsewhere, i feel these experiences tend to be pretty negative. In an effort to fill the pause, I said, "no worries, if not." She said that the owner was on tour and they weren't sure if they'd be able to. Totally fine-- I think being communicative upfront versus leaving me hanging and feeling like an idiot for asking would've made me feel more comfortable. As it was, I didn't feel as if we started on a strong foot or that I was super welcomed-- it was a strange vibe. The employee said she wasn't working at that moment, so I felt bad and like I was an annoyance. In the end, they didn't purchase anything from me-- which was fine. Given all that led up to it, I knew that I wouldn't attempt it again, and wasn't super inclined to visit anytime soon. I hope that going forward, the staff will make a bit more of an effort to be friendly and welcoming. read more

I recently stumbled upon this place to purchase a cute skirt (and it was before dinner so I didn't want to carry with me) so I prepaid $25 for it and mentioned that I'd pick up later since I live closeby. I get that it was a few months before I returned (I went on a long holiday and seriously forgot the address of the place and name). So saw it on my stroll home and decided to see if my skirt was around! The fact that the owner remembered the skirt... BUT told me that she might have resold it and that "I was drunk when I came in." Why I am saving you from this bad encounter: 1. I wasn't drunk (and isn't that rude to tell someone that as an excuse not to give them something they paid for?)... 2. I could have demanded a refund but I kindly came in to ask her if she still had my skirt. Perhaps the right thing to do would have been (common courtesy?) offering a refund if she saw that I never picked it up. Sure, she offered my number in case she found it - if she's already claiming that I was drunk and that it was my fault for not coming back sooner because she must have resold it.. I'm sure she won't be going out of her way to look for it or call me back. After seeing online that she did the same to someone who was missing merchandise... This is pretty bad ethics for a small business. read more

Between the servings of beef at Pagolac, I was insanely lucky enough to stumble into Vacation and was immediately bowled over by how awesome the store's selection and prices were. Most everything that I saw was in the less-than-$20 range for some quality vintage. Pieces with labels had appropriate markup, but were still insanely inexpensive. I scored an amazing silk chiffon polka dot blouse along with 8 other shirts and a pair of almost-new Ralph Lauren loafers for around $225. I mean come on now, that's a bloody steal! Still up for grabs were a few all-weather Dooney & Bourke bags, a Chanel, and a ton of adorable clothes. Not saying that I didn't expect to come across this amazing windfall of clothing in the TL, but to be honest it's never really a place I'd ever thought I'd be shopping in, let alone scoring so many amazing pieces. Although the collective experience is fab, the real gem is the proprietor, Kristin. She's super friendly and passionate about what she does and the neighborhood around her. Above all, her pricing is beyond fair for what she's offering, and all of the clothes are well cleaned and in impeccable shape. In addition, I was told that the space was going to be hosting some great events, including a few art shows and a Thee Oh Sees show in the near future!!! Cooler-than-you vintage clothing store in the Tenderloin that occasionally hosts art and music events in their tiny basement. I felt like a mewling can-I-play-too dweeb when I first set foot in there. When I asked if the store had an e-mail mailing list, the owner looked at me like I had suggested we trade notes via carrier pigeon. Now that I have gotten to know this shop, I really like it. This store isn't large: it's basically one room with a high-ceiling, a handful of racks and art on the walls. But it is excruciatingly well-curated. And even though men's gear is only a minority of the offerings, I'm destined to make a purchase on every visit. I always find something killer and for a reasonable price. When I found out they host FREE live music shows announced mere hours beforehand via Instagram, I had to attend one. Hip truly vintage clothing shop with reasonable prices. For a small space, there are sooo many items, and the owner/buyers seem to have a good eye for pieces that are representative of their time, but still relevant to today. Vintage dresses I tried on (truly D&G sample dress to truly prairie type 70's dresses) ranged from 50-80$, a whole WALL of vintage jeans, and some interesting jewelry. The shop keeps a very active instagram which is helpful to see the types of items they are rotating. This was before the shelter-in-place, but now I have the time to make my first ever Yelp review. I've seen this shop open up in my neighborhood a few years ago and finally decided to make a trip inside since there was a long wait time for Turtle Tower. When walking in I was completely ignored by the worker, who later I found out was the owner. I wanted to ask the price for an item which had no tag and she completely ignored me. When I repeated myself with a slightly louder volume, she finally got off her phone, and told me with an attitude as if I was completely violating her time. I would have been OK with that, but then another 2 girls came in and they received the most warm and friendly greeting. I thought maybe they're already friends, but hearing the conversations it seems that they were just visiting. Sadly, I hoped this to the fact that maybe I wasn't hipster enough as some of these more hip thrift store workers are known to be rude. But the two women were not dressed super-stylish, they just looked like they were in casual gym clothes. I really hate to go there, but based on my personal life experiences, I couldn't help that it was because of how I looked, not the way I dressed, but the color of my skin. I have had this type of treatment many times, and am simply tired of pointing it out every time. Considering this shop lies in the heart of the Tenderloin, one of the most impoverished neighborhoods, I really hoped that their presence would add to the cultural diversity that once was San Francisco. However, over the years, and living just down the block from them, they have not contributed to the well-being of the community, nor have they even taken the opportunities to get to know local people. (I work at the community center 2 blocks down, so this is as far as my knowledge can be based.) In fact, many of the other business on Larkin St donated funds to help build historical plaques and statues of lions. This business did not, but the two shops on either side did. This is not to comment on who they are as individuals, maybe the worker was having a bad day. However that bad day translated to a customer feeling racially profiled. I understand that we need to support small businesses, and this store is a favorite to many people. I hope the owners will read this and explain to themselves and their staff that their attitudes towards ALL customers matter, not just the ones who have the right look. read more

Let me clarify by saying that this review is towards a treatment I have received 2 days ago. I love this place, it is a true gem and 5*** for absolutely great helpful staff/owner. There is one guy I came across, the dude with semi fro/curl hair and a terrible attitude. From the moment I walked in, he was unpleasant, dismissive and for some odd reason in a rush to get me out of the store. He was glued to his phone and I received 2 words response for every questions I've asked. I got the memo, felt like I was bothering him so I helped myself. It was an welcoming feel from the very beginning and could've walked out right away but like I have mentioned I love this place and his shitty attitude didn't affect me until I was doing my purchase. I saw a ring in the case by the counter, asked to see it and for the price (still glued to his phone) he said and I quote "It is pure silver, going to be a little pricey, are you getting it because I have to ask for the price". Ignored the shady comment and asked for the price again. He texted whom I believe is the owner, she only took less than 3 minutes to respond but he kept making comments like 'It's taking a minute for her to respond, you sure you're getting it" that was a ticking point! While I was doing my purchase, I saw earrings and asked if i could see it and immediately got on the phone for like 1 minute. While i'm on the phone, he's rushing me to sign while totally neglecting what I have asked for. I'm not one to confront, but had to ask him and let him know how he made me feel the entire time I was in store. Him: I was posting on instagram, I'm sorry.. I was being nice blah blah. 1) don't apologize if you think you were fair. 2) as my good friend used to say "Don't be sorry, be careful!!" 3) I follow the page and no instagram post that day. I wasn't asking you to be bff's with me. I too work at a resale store, I know how shit flows and never made anyone uncomfortable as you made me. Awesome clothes, and a super great staff. They have shows in the basement sometimes which are always really fun. The stuff they stock is nice but isn't too expensive which is nice. So, my day was going terrific when I was excused from jury duty at the superior court with a little time take in a gorgeous July afternoon in the city when I happen upon Vacation, a lovingly curated vintage store in my neighborhood.
