I am hesitant to post this review, due to my enjoyable first experience meeting Dr. Saroian. During my first and only meeting with her, she was engaging, caring and helpful. The reason for this review stems from her lack of profesionalism handling a canceled appointment. i do not want to paint Dr. Saroian in an entirely negative light; however, her handling of a late minute cancellation that led her to cancel our relationship is the reason for my discontent. For context, I cancelled an appointment less than 24 hours before the appointment, fully expecting to pay a late cancellation fee. When she sent me a letter billing me for a cancellation fee that was in excess of my co-pay, I kindly wrote her back saying that I would only pay for what the co-pay was, and not the increased cancellation fee. She cashed my check, and I believed the issue to be done. When I called to make a new appt, she responded that she didn't want to see me as a patient anymore, without any explanation. If I were a in a negative state of mind during this message, this interaction could have put me at risk. Luckily I was fine, although the incident did add unneeded anxiety. To add context, when I called Dr. Saroian back to inquire as to the circumstances behind her ending our relationship, she said that she felt personally slited that I wrote her a check for less than what she requested, and didn't want to work with a patient that "so clearly didn't think enough of her to pay the full amount". For more context, and to Dr. Saroian's credit, she only requested that I pay for a portion of the cancellation fee mandated by the insurance company for me to pay. I, however, was not aware of her discount when I wrote her the reduced check. Had I known the context, I would have gladly written her a check for the full amount she requested.
In summary, I enjoyed and thought that I had found a solid psychiatrist after our first meeting, only to be left disappointed by her act of professionlism in her dealings with a late cancellation fee. Psychiatrists have a responsibility to their patients due to their already compromised mental states, and for Dr. Sarioan act in the manner that she did considering the circumstances, I was left disappointed. Food for thought. read more
