I saw Dr Berlow from 2012-2014 and then ~2016-2017. My insurance doesn't cover him anymore and I…read moredon't live in the area, but that was my only reason for leaving him as a Dr, I otherwise would've stuck around. He's a great psychiatrist, and does a good job at separating what might be psychiatric vs somatic issues or just "bad life syndrome." He goes out of his way to help you try new and experimental treatments or trials that show promise when other options might not be as safe or don't work as well for your case. He was one of the first drs in California (that I know of, but 10y later this still seems to be true) to offer TMS and other TENS unit/TENS unit like non-medication treatments the second they started showing promise, and ditto for psychadelic research 10y ago (fuzzy on the details it's been so long, but he helped me get in one of the earlier PTSD/psychadelic studies when nothing else worked - it worked, now just to patiently wait for things to be legalized). Worth mentioning for the quality of care even though I know my case is rare, bizarre, and atypical: in round 1 of seeing him I had started getting hit by the first symptoms of a rare stomach disease that most other medical pros were ready to dismiss as an eating disorder/bulimia, despite that not fitting at all. Dr Berlow thank god didn't zero in on that like they did and even though I wouldn't figure out what it was for years, took the stomach problems into account for other treatment and symptoms. When I next saw him, I filled him in on how "oh by the way, since I last saw you I figured out that stomach problem - it's gastroparesis" and it was a eureka moment for both of us, and turns out a lot of patients with this are sent off to psychiatry when it's not psychiatric, to the point that he was more up to date on treatment and tricks for that than any GI dr I saw. I can't speak on insurance since it's been so long, but round 2 of seeing him I don't think my insurance covered him, but I didn't have issues (usually) with the superbill I had to get and then send off to insurance. I was in a situation where I needed to see a psychiatrist for a medication rx'd by my cardiologist because of how laws were back then and all other psychiatrists had a 6+ month long waitlist.

I cannot say enough good things about Bold Health. From the very first phone call, the admin team…read more(shoutout to Aja!) was warm, organized, and genuinely kind. Scheduling was easy, communication was clear, and every interaction made me feel welcomed and supported. It's rare to find front office staff who are both efficient and compassionate, but they truly set the tone here. Dr. Hirst is exceptional. Thoughtful, attentive, and incredibly knowledgeable, she creates a space where you feel heard without judgment. Appointments never feel rushed, and I always leave feeling understood and equipped with real tools and direction. You can tell they genuinely care about their patients' well-being and long-term progress. If you're looking for a mental health clinic that combines professionalism with real human warmth, this is it. So grateful to have found Bold Health.

I've been going here for a couple years now, and I've wanted to write a review, but have been…read morereticent for several reasons. The main being that I wanted to leave a decently high rating, but have been unable to due to the unexplained disruption in my care by the high rate of provider turnover, and thus couldn't. More specifically, my experience here has been that I went through several individual therapists, and while I made progress with each, none were really exceptional. Combine that with the what felt like constant provider changes, the overall experience was very lacking, and I didn't feel particularly important due to this. This was especially true in my couples therapy sessions, where I never really felt listened to. Despite my better judgment, I continued to go to these sessions, but I felt like nothing ever changed for me. I recommend that if you find yourself with a therapist you don't "click" with, you should "shop around". Which is what I'm doing now. I do also have experience in their IOP program. I'm afraid to say that I can't really recommend their IOP, and if you do check it out, I highly suggest "shopping around" the same way you would for an individual therapist. Also, quite unfortunately, I didn't feel very accepted there, but instead felt very judged at times, which when happened, it was very difficult to fully share and be vulnerable. Which may be related to one of their main catch phrases, where you're supposed to "get curious" about why you feel a certain way, felt like it was used very little with me. While there are a lot of negatives, it can be very difficult to find providers that take your insurance. Which they did take mine, so that was nice.

I then phoned back the hospital to say I had the wrong number, they called the number they had originally given to me and verified it was correct so I called back. I got the same person and started in again pretending she had no idea what I was talking about. I asked her why was she doing that. She wouldn't answer. I explained that the doctor's office gave me their number and confirmed with her that they do ketamine and asked for her name because she was so shady. She would not give it to me and hung up on me. I called back several times, asking her to speak to someone in charge, and asking for her name, and why she's behaving in an unprofessional manner. She would not budge and kept hanging up on me. I was hoping to get another person to answer the phone, but it was her each time. Finally, she gave me her name "Alex" which I don't believe is true. I then called back the hospital and told them not to refer anybody to them because of her unprofessionalism. Shocking behavior from someone administering psychiatric medication. The hospital has been notified of her treatment.

She was diagnosed with bipolar years prior and we wanted to make sure she got proper treatment. I never met him cause she was an adult when she went to him and she was too busy to research doctors at that time she was still in school and working. She liked him at first then was indifferent to him and just had to go to get her necessary psyche meds that they held hostage until we spent $160-180 every telemed five minute meeting for. She had complained about their policies a few times and I urged her to look to other doctors bc I wasn't sure she had the right meds based in what I saw in her moods and he didn't seem to listen to her. Weeks ago I reached out twice to him because I saw an escalation in her behavior and moods. I know they can't discuss her with me but even a simple reply that they heard me would've been helpful. We were scared for her but she was an adult so we had little control. She did escalate badly and we went down to help her after several serious red flags and she was eventually hospitalized after bringing her in to be evaluated at the ER. When she needed him most after her psyche ward hospitalization after another manic episode and psychosis which led to the ER doctors keeping her on involuntary hold, he seemed to mock us for it and doubt her bipolar Diagnosis (didn't even get the clinical notes yet from her hospitalization and wasn't interested in what us parents experienced) After going through hell with our daughter she wanted us to join her telemed appt because she knew she was sick and knew we needed to talk to Dr H but all he did was interrupt us, second guess us, tell her to cut off communication with us and now she hasn't spoken to us in five days because she is still recovering from a huge ordeal and vulnerable and she was ready to get aftercare treatment until she spoke with him and convinced her to basically break up with her parents who he doesn't know AT ALL! He has no clue what we've gone through with our daughter. She's really good at manipulating things when she's well. He had a job- to diagnose and give meds and he added another job, interfere and turn our vulnerable daughter against us, the only ones who have truly had her best interest at heart! Saying we were bad for her mental health. Well no, her substances and denial and enabling friends and this doctor are bad for her mental health. We were just trying to desperately save our daughter who went through Another really bad mental breakdown and this Dr crossed a line and set her back
