Was there August 1st and I must say this place is doing better then a lot if other eateries in town tried 2 other places that pretty much just looked the other way. Surges got us right in and seated... Great amount of tv's to watch the games. Got a veggie pizza and got to say they have some of the best Pizza Dough i've had in a while. Have been going up to Rangeley for 6 years now, and finally got a chance to eat here. I think it's a good option if you're feeling bar food for lunch. They also have a full bar, so it's a great place to hang out with friends. The biggest thing worth mentioning, is that they have (or had in August 2017) the cheapest lobster rolls we could find. They didn't skimp on the lobster like other places, and offered them at a fair price. Would go back. read more

Stopped in for lunch the other day it was a cool afternoon so I decided to get the soup of the day. It was clam chowder. I figured it was probably homemade I was wrong. It was straight out of the can. Campbell Soup has a very distinct flavor and that's exactly what it was. They have live music and karaoke that I did partake in! Fun for late nights after snowmobile rides or after a day on the lake! I have been going to this place for years. And was looking forward to another great visit. I understand when a place has to run short staffed. It happens but that is no reason for us to sit at the bar and get ignored. It was not particularly busy. As I was waiting to get my bill the manager came in. After leaving a small tip and telling them the service was bad he told me in no uncertain terms to never come back which wasn't necessary as I will not. As a manager/owner of my own business I always try to make sure the customer is satisfied. Not him. He came to the defense of his employees before he truly knew what was going on. We've been coming here since 1985 when it was Mikes and things keep getting better and better! The problem is too many excellent choices! We got smart this time and ate half our veggie nachos and took the rest home so we could enjoy the always excellent lobster roll and curly fries. Felt that covid compliance was excellent, we enjoyed the upper outside seating for the first time (we usually love to sit at the bar). Teena our sever was on top of everything and was really working hard to get things to you promptly! (All up the stairs, no dumb waiter, keep that in mind when you tip!) She never lost her calm and kind attitude even with a large obnoxious group who were there when we arrived and then took up her time with demanding separate checks. Really people?? I had the seafood chowder and it was wonderful as were the meals eagerly consumed by my 2 relatives. But most impressive was our waitress that waited on whole upstairs floor with a couple dozen patrons, never wrote down the orders and got everything perfectly correct. To top this off she bussed all the tables and carried meals and drinks up multiple floors. In addition she was congenial and spent time telling about her Navy veteran background. We went in for dinner, first night of a week in the area and didn't feel like cooking after traveling. First impression was good, bright and clean and smelled of fresh polyurethane. Obviously they've just put a lot of work into the place. Unfortunately that's where the good ended for us. First draft beer I order is the only beer they are out of. Order apps of mozzarella sticks and onion rings, nope out and being delivered tomorrow. This is where our waitress also informs us they are out of curly fries. Finally ordered Caesar salads and French onion soup, kids ordered chicken fingers, wings and regular fries (seemed hand cut) which were by far the best part of the meals. When the check came, wasn't our check but a neighboring table's, when we did get the correct check we'd been charged for the onion rings which they were out of. Took FAR too long to correct and the staff weren't apologetic in the least but instead acted as if we were spoiled tourists (we're Mainers by the way). Lucky to get my two star rating! We were here in Labor Day weekend of '13. Bartender wasn't rude but he didn't give a shit about us. He was more concerned with some waitress or regular talking about townie stuff. When I finally shouted to get his attention he was annoyed that we wanted menus and that I asked what was on tap. We looked at the menu for about five minutes then shouted for his attention again only to be told the kitchen was closed. Kind of a dick move to not let us know when we asked for menus but at least we weren't suckered into buying a drink first. Not worth it unless you're a townie. There is a nice restaurant across the street called Forks in the Air and a bbq place up a half mile that are much more accommodating of tourists. read more

Sarges is a great spot for a quick meal or burger. The bar is always lively with super bands at times. Tom Ball will bring you back to 1980s with anything goes from AC/DC to Tom Petty on a Saturday night. Drinks are inexpensive and the food is just above average, with a good pizza. 2.5 stars. My boyfriend and I stopped in here after exploring the town for a bit on Saturday. Average bar atmosphere with a college football game on. The place smelled great but we had had a big breakfast prior to stopping in so we were only doing drinks. I've had decent burgers here in the past. The bartender seemed more interested in taking care of the locals than us and we waited on her for over 20 minutes with empty drinks and our card out when we were ready to go. Three of us stopped here for lunch on a motorcycle ride through Maine. We ate on an outside deck on the second floor. The view was great, and the food was pretty good... burgers, fries, onion rings, typical pub grub with above average flavor and many beers on tap. There was some confusion by the wait staff, we were initially waited on by a friendly waitress who took our drink order. Another waitress soon arrived and she proceeded like we were new. She seemed rushed and very harried, she had 3 small additional parties and a large table with 5-6 adults and at least 5-6 kids. She ended up taking care of everyone on this deck, and you could tell she was not focused, it appeared to be too much for her. Anyway, we ended up with a decent lunch, a so-so waitress and an appropriate charge for our food. It was very busy on the first floor and lots of tv's around. I don't usually write negative reviews, and I hate to do so for a restaurant that is in one of my favorite vacation places. Went to Sarge's for a bite to eat with family on the last day of our vacation a few weeks ago. The service was okay, however the food was not. I ordered buffalo tenders and bit into one of the tenders to find RAW CHICKEN inside. So disgusting and inexcusable. The waitress was immediately apologetic and took the chicken and our drinks off the tab. However, I need to write this review in hopes no one else ends up sick off of uncooked food. Luckily I caught the raw meat before swallowing any, but I think I got a stomach ache afterwards from just the thought of it. Sad- because again, I love Rangeley and this seems like a really nice pub. At least our beers were good! read more

The one star is for the completely inept and rude waitress we had. My husband and friends have eaten at Sarge's many times during all four seasons. Typically the service (even when the place is super busy) is great with friendly servers and bartenders. Monday afternoon July 4th about 2pm there was a waitress that ignored our table of 7, strolled by us at least 6 times not asking if we wanted drinks or offering menus. Eventually she serves our beers but after a few more minutes, we had to ask for menus (she should have offered menus to us). She hands us two menus saying "here's a couple menus to share" so we walked up to the bar and asked for more menus. We drank most of our beers while she continued to just saunter by our table several times not even looking at us. Finally we just paid for those beers (again at the bar) and left because she didn't even have the curtesy to ask if we were ready to order. This stocky, short haired brunette with a tattoo on her neck should not interact with customers since her attitude is so incredibly poor. No smile, no banter and not even an apology as we were walking away. We were not the only table that this difficulty as another patron had to get up and ask for service from the bar also. I hope the wait staff is better this winter when we come back to Rangeley. read more

3/4 of a resort town pub! This place is a real dump. Smells horrible if your not sloshed. Bottled water didn't come in that week so they did not have any. Lobster roll was a few pieces of defrosted lobster on a stale hot dog bun, nothing else, no lettuce, no mayo, hard to swallow it was so bland. Must help sell the beers though? My wife and kid tried the pizza and didn't like it. I tried it the next morning and spit it out. Bread soaked with cheap grease. But, of course, they have resort town prices!! read more
