I dropped off a lock at 1pm and the woman working the front counter told me she'd have the locksmith look at that afternoon. I told her and stressed the point that this was an exterior door handle for a business and I needed it back even if it wasn't repaired. I left my cell phone number with her. I showed up 20 minutes before they closed only to find a note on the door saying they closed early and were sorry for the inconvenience. I called and left a message that I was upset and disappointed. The owner called me back 30 minutes later and basically blamed me for leaving it there and why didn't I just buy a new one if it was so important!?!?!? I tried to explain that I was following the instructions of his employee and was expecting a call to pick it up or buy a new. I brought in a 53 year old aluminum VW key in late March the had snapped in half after years of weakening. I thought I had a 1% chance of any kind of copy or replication. I had a very difficult camper access door key to duplicate. I had been to three local hardware stores, one other locksmith and two other specialty stores to get this key made. The lady at the counter searched the selection extensively, found the blank keys necessary and was able to make my duplicate keys. Terrific attitude, friendly service and exceeded my expectations. Not very professional and completely unresponsive. I needed 12 locks replaced and quoted for a remote lock system. I wanted to stay local and support small business but due to the lack of business acumen and general customer communication and service I was forced to go elsewhere. I waited over 3 weeks for responses and that was after I photographed the locks and sent everything in as instructed. When I called to check back on things I was told abruptly that they are busy and will get back to me. When I went back in person and expressed my unhappiness I was basically told that she can't control what the other employees do and I was annoyed and abrasive. Owner refused to duplicate a key with a specialty key I brought in. He told me they only duplicate keys if you buy the new key from them! Headed over to Rankin in Camden where they not only happily duplicated my key but didn't charge me! This is a great local business! Not sure why you need to scroll down to get the whole story, this is NOT a 1 star store. This lock shop has helped me out numerous times. I don't think you stay in business for over 30 years by providing lousy service. I've had great experiences with this company as well as many other reviewers. Unfortunately the positive reviews ended up in the "not currently recommended" section. My research showed that Yelp tries to weed out the fake reviews and if you don't write often or enough, into the gray area you go. That's a good thing in most cases, it's just that this is not one of those cases. So scroll down and get the whole story. Sargent Lock & Safe is the place to go for lock and key service. Just walk into their store and you will see one of the best key selections anywhere. They have keys that I could not find anywhere else! I had a very frustrating experience with this locksmith, something that I attribute to their taking advantage of being just about the only game in town. (I'm going to try someplace farther afield next.) The bottom line is that they charged me $50, did not fix my problem, and were less than courteous about it. I have a door whose lock does not work. On a Tuesday, I called and asked if they could come to take a look at it, and they said no---admittedly, the house is in an inconvenient location. I called again the next morning (no response) and left a message saying that I could bring the door (actually a half-door, so roughly 36" square) in so they could work on it directly. That afternoon, I removed the door from its hinges and brought it in. When I walked in the door, the person behind the counter said, "I was going to call you to say that you can't bring the door in, because we don't have room for it." She was not very pleasant about it, and I thought: "well, why DIDN'T you call me, if I am causing you such an inconvenience?" I'm skeptical that they actually lacked room for a 36" half-door brought in by a customer whom they had refused to visit, but never mind that. The person behind the counter also said that if I left the lock itself the locksmith could take a look at it; she herself did not appear to know much about whether it could be repaired. I agreed to leave the lock, some of which I told her I hadn't been able to remove from the door, and said that I would hope to hear from them in the next couple of days. It wasn't until Monday that I heard back: I received a phone call saying that the locksmith said he could re-key the lock, but that it would cost $50 because it was an out-of-date lock style. I agreed. On Wednesday, I picked the lock back up, took it home, and re-installed it. Its mechanism is much stiffer now, and still doesn't work properly! I called again to complain, and was told to try re-installing it again. Having thrown away $50 and several hours of my time, I have decided to give up trying to get decent service from this company, and will look elsewhere. read more

In February of 2018, I called to have a dead bolt lock put on my front door, which up to this time had no lock at all.The young gentleman who arrived had all the equipment he needed, including two colors of locks from which to choose. Not only did he do the job in record time, he even cleaned up all the shavings! As well, he offered to make 2 extra keys right there and then. I was VERY happy with the work. The lock has worked well from day one, even going thru all those weekly nor'easters we had without a problem.
