I live not far from East Ham High Street and so for the many years walking up and down the high street, I had no idea that a great place like this even existed, where have you been all my life?!?!?! Even my friend who lives up Maida Vale knows about this lovely little gem! Oh the shame. They make Vegetarian dishes taste ever so lush! Yup it's a vegetarian restaurant! So many South Indian dishes to chose from and dishes I have never even heard of, i wanted to order everything off the menu but instead I ordered Southern Indian Thali...it was yumm! Good quality of food at reasonable prices, you cant go wrong!

All locals, lines out the door on a Sunday night!!!!

Priya the manager is excellent. I have been around Indian food all my life, still cant wrap my head around how much on the variety stemmed from the diversity of Indian R&R (Religion and region). First let me say that I do not like English version of the butchered Indian foods, the chick peas, the overly sweet curry, or the diarrhea like tikka masala. Real Indian food is challenging, the over whelming flavor is like a jalapeno, it's supposed to scare you, get your attention, which leads to an enthusiastic experience of sharing the dish's with your friends. Saravanaa does all that, around the world they are spreading like bootleg dvd's and counterfeit purses. But who cares, when it's great, not pretentious, this is where taste buds lead you. I should take off a star for the long lines, but in my heart, I cant.

Great tasting food, just like its' original restaurant in India. Reasonable price. Watch out for its complicated washroom, though clean!

I highly recommend the papdi chaat and a mango lassi! All the dishes we had were tasty and not as spicy as some other south Indian restaurants so a little better for those (like me) not as good with hot spice. The dosa could have done with a little more taste though but I did really enjoy it. We had two small dishes, two curries, a dosa, two naan breads, a beer and a mango lassi and it came to just over £30. Very good, especially as there was so much food we struggled to walk home! Definitely one of the best restaurants on Green Street and worth a visit for sure.

The staff are all very friendly and helpful when ordering if you are unsure. The menu is extensive and there is lots to choose from. As well as eating in or take away they do have a lot of snacks and sweets to take away too. They are used to catering for hundreds and hundreds of people so they really know what they are doing. If you are ever in the area it is somewhere you should stop in to.

We usually get the whole fish cooked in spices and tomato and wrapped in banana leaf, butter chicken, pilau rice, and a trio of parathas. Food does take a little while, but great place to sit and chat since it never gets super crowded. Pick up some desserts from one of the joints down the street!

I have now been there 3 times and loved the food all 3 times. I have tried the fried fish and beef, thali meals - both veg and non-veg, Kerala Porotta and some lassi. Everything was stellar and authentic except the lassi (which is technically not something made in Kerala). The price is amazing as well. The Thali is for just 4.5 quid if I remember right. I think they do take reservations but its never been full in the times I have gone there. The only negative point I have to say is about the toilets. This place doesn't have toilets on its premises and so when you exit through the door market 'Toilet' you are transported into the neighbouring pub (which is presumably owned by the same chaps. The first time, I felt as though I was in a scene from the matrix going int oa weird room through a door. I would strongly recommend this place to anyone from Kerala, India (like me) or if you want to try something different (and spicy). 4* (and not 5) because of the toilets.

However when…read moreI went today, they was celebrating the Onam festival, which made it a little bit more special with all the decorations and the small shrine in the corner. I've eaten here before but as I was looking at the menu, the waiter suggested a banana leaf curry. Being new to this I agreed, I was pleasantly surprised to see them dishing out small portions of sambals, rice and curries on a banana leaf complete with a poppadum. The food range from cold, warm, spicy, bitter, chewy, creamy, sweet and sour. Finished off with a tapoica pudding with coconut and cashews. Finally, there was a nice little banana. Being a bit deaf. The waiter did not speak a lot of english. Communication was a little skewed. However they were pleasant, as I think they were slightly amused by the lone white male, eating in an otherwise all Keralan restaurant. They offered extra rice which was gratefully accepted. I liked this place despite being slightly baffled by the exoticness of it all. But it makes a nice change from the usual generic Indian restaurant.
