I think the prices need to come down slightly, and more people will go in, but with greggs opening up next door and taking a majority of the rolls pasties and hot take away drinks off them I can see them starting to struggle.

I'm not sure what clientele they were hoping for, but in a town that's famous for cheese, Tommy Cooper and generally being a bit of a rough place to live, this is one coffee house you won't be finding the cast of Friends lounging around, exchanging witty pleasantries. Out of curiosity, I dropped by the other day to sample the goods on offer (the coffee that is, not the waitresses), and as I was feeling the weight of the afternoon carbs crash, my weapon of choice was my usual in this situation; a black coffee. That's a black coffee: not an Americana, not a café noir, not a damn intergalactic cup of the night sky - a black-freaking-coffee. Pretentious names aside, I love a good, strong cup of black coffee and Beano's well and truly delivered. By the time I'd finished my second cup, I could almost see through time and was well and truly recharged. I take my hat off to you Beano's; despite looking oddly out of place in Caerphilly, you have given my sceptical nature a well-deserved kick in the teeth. I walked through the doors and if someone had turned the colour off I could have been in a classic cafe during the late 50's. And I don't mean that in a bad way. It's all quite new and clean inside but has this quaint post war feel to it helped by the waitresses wearing little frilly hats and matching aprons. I choose a coronation chicken baquette and a pot of tea for two (there was 2 of us). The baquette was large, fresh and its filling tasty. It also came with some crisps on the side - which I thought was a nice touch. The service was swift and polite and the cost very reasonable. I've you have the same lunchtime dilemma as me and happen to find yourself in Caerphilly you could do a lot worse than pop in to Glanmors.

While it may not look very fashionable on the outside and the regular inhabitants wouldn't look out of place on the bowls green, this quaint tea room does get a surprising amount of attention from tourists and passers by, mainly due to its location of being directly opposite Caerphilly Castle. But while people may come in primarily for the view, they stay for the food, with delicious snacks served up daily, from cakes and scones to sandwiches and pasties. With waitresses dressed in traditional tea room attire, apron and all, there is a traditional feel to the restaurant that is distinctly unique and noticeably lacking in most modern coffee shops; that good, old fashioned TLC that you don't get in chain stores like Starbucks and Costa, where you are rushed in and out with out so much as a "please" or "thank you". At Glanmor's you really get the impression everything you see is freshly made and everything is done to the finest standard possible, and that hard work shows through in both the presentation of the shop and the taste of the food. A truly unique shop that will pleasantly surprise even the most sceptical of customers.

Here you can get the usual array of coffees teas and sumptuous hot chocolates. But their food is also great for a quick bit to eat - the pannini's especially. The surroundings are cosy and the staff are really friendly, especially a guy called Ryan. He really can't do enough to help the customers.
