Opt to sit inside near an open fire or outside where there is an abundance of plants and wildlife - there's even a neighbourhood Peacock! We had toast for two, coffee and a tea - served by their friendly staff which cost only a few pound. Next time as apposed to driving straight there I would choose to take on the Taff Trail ending at the Forest Tea Rooms as its apparent most use it as a post cycle / long walk reward.

Here you can get the usual array of coffees teas and sumptuous hot chocolates. But their food is also great for a quick bit to eat - the pannini's especially. The surroundings are cosy and the staff are really friendly, especially a guy called Ryan. He really can't do enough to help the customers.

That's a black coffee: not an Americana, not a café noir, not a damn intergalactic cup of the night sky - a black-freaking-coffee. Pretentious names aside, I love a good, strong cup of black coffee and Beano's well and truly delivered. By the time I'd finished my second cup, I could almost see through time and was well and truly recharged. My partner and I attempted to go for a walk onto the mountain but within 20 minutes we were back at Mountain View buying a burger and a hot chocolate. Ok its a static burger van but it the location that makes this greasy spoon unique. Even as a child my parents used to take us up Caerphilly Mountain where our reward for a walk over the mountain was a burger and a hot chocolate. These days I don't need a reward to walk over the mountain to look at the magnificent views, but it helps. This place always seems open - its open 7 days a week and has been so since 1957!
