Snails - The outside is so cute. There is a take away next door for pastries and quiche.

It was early so I was a little worried they would only be serving breakfast but I was so happy when they said I could get what I wanted. I wanted the Welsh Rarebit and the Glamorgan sausages. I had never tried either before. The Welsh Rarebit was amazing. Thick bread and the cheese mixture was so good. I could have eaten it all. I may have to try to make it when I go home. I had no idea what to expect with the Glamorgan sausages. No meat. Just cheese, leeks and breadcrumbs deep fried. I tried it and for Americans, it tasted just like Thanksgiving stuffing! Good, homemade thanksgiving stuffing. It was a surprise. Really good. My friend got scrambled eggs and toast. She liked it. She also got an iced coffee that she loved. The ladies working were wonderful and we chatted about our trip. They were on top of everything. It was such a cute place. Well worth the drive out of city center.

Firstly I ate in the café with a group of friends, and as our table appeared to resemble a giant mushroom, I must admit I felt slightly like a snail. We were all rather naughty and ordered some cakes; I had a lemon drizzle cake, which was utterly to die for though I think I may need to make a few trips to the gym before ordering it again. I'm a big fan of delis so was very excited to check this one out. They sold a variety of fresh fruit and vegetables, pasta, fresh bread, and some incredibly unusual spices which we were aloud to try out. I purchased some olives which whilst weren't the best I've ever had (nothing could compete with fresh olives in Italy), were jolly good. Sticking with the French theme Snails also offers weekly French conversations, which I'm told are very popular. A Fabulous cafe and deli, Snails is a real little treat for locals and those visiting the area, oh and be sure to check out their little garden outside (very cute).

A friend of mine works in Caerphilly and I bumped into her the other day around lunchtime. So I…read moreasked where I could get a nice sandwich? The answer was Glanmor's and right she was. I walked through the doors and if someone had turned the colour off I could have been in a classic cafe during the late 50's. And I don't mean that in a bad way. It's all quite new and clean inside but has this quaint post war feel to it helped by the waitresses wearing little frilly hats and matching aprons. I choose a coronation chicken baquette and a pot of tea for two (there was 2 of us). The baquette was large, fresh and its filling tasty. It also came with some crisps on the side - which I thought was a nice touch. The service was swift and polite and the cost very reasonable. I've you have the same lunchtime dilemma as me and happen to find yourself in Caerphilly you could do a lot worse than pop in to Glanmors.

Glanmor's is the last of a dying breed; an old fashioned tea room that has been securely woven into…read morethe fabric of a modern shopping centre. While it may not look very fashionable on the outside and the regular inhabitants wouldn't look out of place on the bowls green, this quaint tea room does get a surprising amount of attention from tourists and passers by, mainly due to its location of being directly opposite Caerphilly Castle. But while people may come in primarily for the view, they stay for the food, with delicious snacks served up daily, from cakes and scones to sandwiches and pasties. With waitresses dressed in traditional tea room attire, apron and all, there is a traditional feel to the restaurant that is distinctly unique and noticeably lacking in most modern coffee shops; that good, old fashioned TLC that you don't get in chain stores like Starbucks and Costa, where you are rushed in and out with out so much as a "please" or "thank you". At Glanmor's you really get the impression everything you see is freshly made and everything is done to the finest standard possible, and that hard work shows through in both the presentation of the shop and the taste of the food. A truly unique shop that will pleasantly surprise even the most sceptical of customers.
